aotd: “Angel with an Apple” by John Waterson

Angel_with_an_Apple_by_BluTack.jpg
Today’s piece is from John Waterson otherwise known as Blutack. Sadly, John passed away March 13th, I just found out this past weekend. He was insanely talented and I was so looking forward to seeing his art spread through the art world. One look at his gallery and it’s quite clear to see that it was only a matter of time before he was at the top. He was only 23 years old, it’s hard to imagine how amazing his work would have been in later years.

I exchanged words with him just a few times, so while I can’t say that we were friends I can say I was a huge fan of his work. Check out his gallery here: John Waterson Gallery

Advertising and blogs

Some of the new features of the site that I should have talked about earlier is the new advertising for the Creep Machine. There are two area you can have banner placed, the sidebar were you can currently see banners for Sketch Theatre and Vomitus.com, and the footer that will only fit one banner at a time. Scroll to the bottom and hit the “advertising” link if you would like more info about this.

The second is a blog that I created that will really be a more personal one. I am an artist as well, at least I am trying to be, and I don’t want to use this site to promote my work. So I will post my work, and daily thoughts and what not on the blog that I have created. If you want to check that out please head over here:

thanks, hope everyone is having a great week.

“Silent Spring” Stella Im Hultberg solo show, Mar 28th

wednesday_stellaimhultberg.jpg
Tonight at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco, Stella im Hultberg’s solo show “Silent Spring” opens up. The reception starts at 7pm and will go until 10pm. There will be a mini print set released, with 5% of the sets containing an original drawing, and a larger print.

There is a preview of the show online, a good majority of the work has already sold. I imagine the prints are going to sell very fast tonight. I love the new oil on canvas works that she has been making, and cant wait to see these in person. I’ll be heading to the reception and will post photos during the weekend.

Silent Sprint, Stella Im Hultberg Solo Show

aotd: “Vengeful Dunces” by Alex Kuno

vengefuldunces_alexkuno.jpgWith the B Movie show approaching quickly, I thought I would use the Art of the Day section to start featuring art from the participating artists of the show. I’ve seen a majority of the art for the show, and I’m blown away. There is some really amazing work and it has all far exceeded my expectations for this show.

So today’s piece is from Alex Kuno, he submitted a really fun piece for the show. The one shown above is an earlier work. This piece is 8″x10″ and I believe is watercolor and maybe even some acrylic paint. I really love the way Alex paints faces, the style of drawing added with the colors he uses really creates this timeless illustrative quality to his work. The scenes are always twisted and surreal. I’m really happy to have him in this show.

If you would like to see a preview of the show, message me and I will send you a link I have created for pre-sale. Otherwise, make sure you head on over and check out the rest of Alex’s work.

Original Maila Nurmi/Vampira Self Portrait

vampira_self.JPG
There is a self portrait by Maila Nurmi, also know as Vampira, for sale right now. The piece is pencil and sharpie on onion paper. It’s signed both Vampira & Maila Nurmi, dated ’99. The seller states that all profits from the sale will go to the Maila Nurmi Memorial Fund. There is also some signed photographs by the same seller.

This is a great image. I have seen some other Vampira inspired pieces by Glenn Barr and Bob Dob, but it’s always a cool thing to get a piece of art made by the person featured in it.

They are on week 7 right now and this weeks print is by Matt Dangler (shown), the piece is entitled “Transcendental Navigation” and is 5”x 9.25”. “Candy Fantasy” tryptich by Tom Bagshaw

candyfantasy_tombagshaw.jpg
Blueflip Art has released some more prints from Tom Bagshaw. This time however the new work is a tryptich. Each one of these prints is 7.5″ x 11″, and can be bought separately or together. When you do buy them as a set you can save $15 by entering the word “Bagshaw” when you are ready to checkout.

I really dig the style that Tom Bagshaw has, and this idea is great. It’s not often you get the option to buy a set of prints like this that work so well with each other.

Michael Hussar, one of a kind “Widow” canvas print

widow_hussar.jpg
I should have caught this one a lot sooner. BirdBath Publishing is selling a one of a kind canvas print of “Widow” by Michael Hussar. This print is an artist’s proof and it’s the same size as the original painting at 8″x10″.

The print will be released later this year on paper, so getting this artists proof on canvas is really like having a one of a kind piece of art from Michael Hussar. It is signed by Michael and is numbered AP 1/1. This is an amazing painting and a truly amazing opportunity. There isn’t much time left so head on over an grab pick up this print before someone else does.

Buy some original art, for a good cause

There is a seller right that has a great list of original art for sale. And from what was being said, the money from these pieces will go to help pay doctor bills. I’m sure we all know how ridiculous medical bills can be, even if you have insurance.

So head on over and take a look, there is some original work by Christopher Owen, Rik Catlow, Blinky, Angie Mason, COOP, Mike Maas, Christopher Uminga, Sam Flores, Kathie Olivas and others.

aotd: “Squid” by Andy B. Clarkson

squid_clarkson.jpg
Today’s art of the day is from Ohio artist, Andy B. Clarkson. He has some upcoming shows at Bar of Modern Art, and Lyle Gallery in Columbus, OH.

He has an amazing surreal style, so it’s no surprise that he will be featured soon on the Beinart Surreal Art Collective. I think his art will fit perfectly there. This piece is made graphite and acrylic, I think the two mediums work great together. The pencil work alone is top notch. I mean look at the eyes, teeth and hands. Perfect.
