Original oil painting, “Temptation” by Scott French

Scott French has a new painting up for sale. It’s oil on canvas and is 8″ x 10″. I’ve been a fan of his work for a while now. His style is always brushy and loose, whether he is painting women, cupcakes or robots his work is always exciting to look at.

“Where is the hate…?” new work by Mr. Christopher

I’m a big fan of the work of Mr. Christopher, so I was quite excited to see a new painting. The full tilte is “Where is the hate?…A Tribute To Evan Dorkin”. If you have ever read the comic Milk and Cheese, then you know where this is coming from.

This painting is 15″ x 20″, acrylic and spraypaint on wood. I’m sure the Milk and Cheese characters are cut out pieces of wood, one of the many killer touches that Mr. Christopher adds to each one of his paintings. The mouths in this painting look so amazing, he really knows how to rock that acrylic paint.

If you haven’t already, head on over to his homepage and check out the rest of his work. I’m sure you’ll see him in some upcoming shows as well.

New print, “Chasing Butterflies” by Joshua Petker

A Paper Tiger has just released a new print from this self-taught L.A. based artist. I have seen his work in person a few times in San Francisco, and each time the show sold out. The print is “Chasing Butterflies” and is based off a painting he had in the “Behind Bedroom Doors” show alongside Sylvia Ji at the Thinkspace Gallery last year.

The print is 12″ x 18″ on Somerset Velvet paper and is limited to only 25 prints. There is also 5 “artists edition” prints, where each print is hand embellished with ink, paint & glitter. Each one of these prints is 18″ x 24″. So if you have missed out on buying one of his original works, head on over and grab one of his prints before they sell out.

aotd: “Drowned” by Marci Washington

Today’s “Art of the Day” comes from Bay Area artist, Marci Washington. Marci recently received an MFA at the California College of Arts, a college I was planning on going to a while back.

All of her work seems to be in watercolor and gouache, I respect the fact that she is able to control gouache. Her work is so clean it actually looks like they are block prints. A few of her works have this really intricate patterns in the background, all hand painted. Now thats dedication.

For more of her work, head on over to her homepage here: MarciWashington.com

In The Store: “Race Till Death” by Ken Garduno

This piece by Ken Garduno was another one of the paintings in the “B Movie” show. It was also one of the few pieces that was inspired by an old b movie, “Death Race”. A very cool old movie that happens to be coming to theaters again as a remake (oh joy). The maniac behind Alien Vs. Predator, The Resident Evil Movies and the upcoming Castlevania movie is brining the Death Race remake to us.

Not excited about the remake, but I was very excited when I first saw this painting. Ken has a great style and the layout he used in this piece really help give it that crazy motion. The painting is acrylic ink and wash on 8″ x 10″ paper. The edges of the paper are deckled, so in the frame the paper is floating instead of under a matte. It really is a classy looking piece, you can see the work all frame up here.

This painting is till available in the store, so if your interested in picking it up head on over. Creep Store

New print, “Unrested” by Dave Kinsey

BLK/MRKT gallery has released a new print by Dave Kinsey. The print is being released in tandem with his show at the Lazarides Gallery in the UK. The print is a 4 color serigraph on off-white paper. It’s 26″ x 26″ and is limited to 200.

It’s based on the “Unrested” painting in the show. It’s a great print, the colors much like many of the pieces Dave makes, pop right out at you and the brush work is very energetic. Looking at the show I would really like to see a print made from this piece, Losing Faith, but who knows maybe that one will be coming.

Head on over to the BLK?MRKT Store if you want to grab “Unrested”, BLK/MRKT Store

Original pastel works by Lisa Falzon

Lisa Falzon is an illustrator that works out of Cork, Ireland. She mainly works in the digital realm but often makes some traditional works as well. The great thing about her work, is that her traditional work and digital work are very close in style. It’s sometimes hard to tell what is digital and what isn’t.

She has some pastel works for sale right now, five of them from what it looks like. Each piece is pastels on cardboard. They are very affordable, especially for the size of some of them. One of the things I really like about her work is the colors that you can find mainly in the skin tones of her figures. Similar to Dean Mcdowell, Lisa uses a variety of colors to describe the skin of each of her figures. It looks amazing and really adds depth, and something unique to each work. Check out the link if you want to grab one of her original works, or head on over to her homepage to see the work she has made so far.

In The Store: “Invisible Zombie Scientist” by Mr. Christopher

invisible_Zombie_Scientist____by_itsmisterchristopher.jpgAfter having Mr. Christopher as one of the featured artists, I was super excited to have him involved in the “B Movie Show”. This painting along with one of the works made by Alex Kuno, was the second largest and only other mixed media painting in the show.

The image doesn’t show it, but the painting is custom framed. The frame is actually built around the painting and looks amazing. The figure in the middle is a cutout piece of wood, so it pops out once you get within a few feet of it. There is also some scientific formulas that were pasted into the background, one of many unique touches that made this painting a favorite from the show. He did such an amazing job painting the jacket, and I also love the face that you can see in the background.

Edit: this painting is now sold, sad to see it go but I know the new owner is really stoked with the art.
