“Tolerance” art book by Chris Mars now available

It looks like the art book “Tolerance” by Chris Mars is now available on the Last Gasp website.

The book is hardcover, and is a whopping 176 pages. Now obviously thats not the Iliad or War and Peace, but as far as art books go its a great size. Chris’ work looks amazing in person, and I think the next best choice, the only choice, is a book filled with high resolution images of his works.

I’ll post a review once mine shows up. If you feel like making an impulse buy like I did, head on over to Last Gasp and grab one. LastGasp.com

“Art of Wormwood” by Ben Templesmith now available

If your a fan of Ben Templesmith, or even just the Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse comic, a new book is available that is chuck filled with art from the comic.

Inside the book you will find images of all the covers, unpublished images a short story that is debuting in the book and I imagine there will also be a few progress images featuring how Ben creates his art. He had some examples of how he works in his Tommyrot book, so It’s a safe bet he will do it in this one as well, especially since I know he gets nagged a lot as to how he creates his unique art.

All you have to do is either find a place online to grab he book, or like I did, order in your local comic shop. This way you are are helping out a local business. There are three versions it looks like:
The standard softcover: JUN084067
Signed and numbered Hardcover: JUN084068
Signed, SKETCH EDITION Hardcover: JUN084069

Here is an image of the cover.

aotd: “Lady Emnity” by Apricot Mantle

Aint it Cool News had a contest a little while before the Crazy4Cult 2 show, and the winner of the contest would be able to have his/her work in the show. This was done also with the I Am 8 Bit show and some really great work came out it. The same was true with this contest. One of my favorite pieces was from a Los Angeles based artist that goes by the name Apricot Mantle.

It looks like all of his works are colored pencil on toned paper. Not only are the layout and poses dynamic, such as this one shown, but the colors are unreal. This piece looks so amazing. I look forward to seeing more work from this artist, and will surely have his work on the site here many more times.
He has no homepage as of yet, but you can head over to his profile to check out the rest of his work.

Crazy 4 Cult 2 reception photos

Well the reception for the latest Crazy 4 Cult 2 show is now over. There was a huge amount of killer work from this show. I love the fact that there was a bit more work inspired by horror movies this time around. I really hope we see some prints of the Naoto Hattori and Chet Zar pieces.

Oldmanmusings.com has some photos of the show over on his Flickr account, one the photos is the one shown here. Wil Wheaton posing next to David Macdowell’s “Stand by Snootch” piece. How cool is that? When David showed me the sketch of the piece, I knew it would be a hit. C’mon, it says “Leech Balls” on Wil’s shirt.

“I am 8 Bit” exclusive prints now at A Paper Tiger

A Paper Tiger will be the exclusive spot to get prints from the 4th year of the “I Am 8 Bit” show. The show had the biggest turn out yet, and there was amazing work there.

The first two prints that will be released by A Paper Tiger are from Scott Campbell and Scott Belcastro. The piece by Scott Belcastro was hands down my favorite of the night, it helps that I am a huge Legend of Zelda fan. Scott Campbell is doing his “Showdown” works again, and the first print will be the first series of them including showdowns of Frogger, Tetris, Mario & Donkey Kong and so on. The Scott Campbell prints are a set of 5, 5″ x 3″ mini prints limited to 30. The Scott Belcastro print is 12″ x 12″ and is limited to 50. Head on over and grab one of them, before it’s too late and keep your open for upcoming prints. I am 8 Bit @ A Paper Tiger

“Consiction”, new limited print by Gene Guynn

Gene currently has some work at the Paper Pushers show at the Gallery 1988 in SF, he sold a killer amount of work and there is even a couple still available. Following up with that show he just released this killer new print of one my favorite paintings he has done so far.

The print is limited to only 25 signed and numbered, is 9″ x 12″ and comes with a sealed certificate of authenticity. Head on over to pick one of these up, they are only $25 and I am sure they are going to go fast. Consiction Print by Gene Guynn

In the Store: “We Accept You” by Jason Rudolph Pena

Another one of the works from the “Attack of the B Movie” art show, was this killer painting by Jason Rudolph Pena. The painting is of Simon Metz otherwise known as “Schlitzie” one of the more recognized and iconic figures from the 1932 cult classic movie “Freaks”. Schlitzie was often mistaken for being a girl, but was in fact male, due to his many disabilities the people who took care of him thought it was easier for him to wear dresses.

Besides being in the movie, Schlitzie spent his whole life in Carnivals and Sideshow Attractions. There are hundreds of various collectibles featuring the likeness of Schlitzie, but I have to say this one is my favorite. Of course there is the obvious skill Jason has in painting, but I think the combination of the frame, colors used and presentation gives this work respect whereas most of the work I have seen inspired by Schlitzie is more hokey and less respectful.

This painting is acrylic on wood, 12″ x 16″ and framed. Check out the store area of the site for purchase info.
