“Cycle of Lies”, original painting by Chris Mars

It’s not often that you see an original work from Chris Mars that a collector is selling. It does happen, and in this worsening economy I think we will see people selling artwork at a faster pace. Very sad, especially when you realize that art buying is a luxury. Well, heres to hoping the tide changes and things start looking up.

This painting is oil on panel and is 11″ round. It was featured in Chris’s solo show last year at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. It’s a killer piece. As always with Chris’s work, the colors are outstanding and the work itself is worth staring at for hours. This painting has been out into a custom shadowbox and kept there from day one. It was also a smoke-free home.

“Madonna and Horsefly” print by John Brophy

Roq La Rue Gallery has a new print from Washington based artist, John Brophy. The print is on heavy watercolor stock, 10 3/4″ x 13 1/4″, with a paper size of 13 1/4″ x 15 3/4″. It is signed and numbered in an edition of only 10.

I absolutely love John’s work, I hope to be able to see at least one of his paintings in person one day. I love how this work looks like an underpainting, it glows and has this really dynamic quality to it. I don’t think this print will last long at all, as I write this there are only 8 prints left. So if you love the work as much as I do, head on over and check em out.

3 new prints by Chris Peters

Chris Peters has just opened up a new store area of his website and is launching tis new section with three new giclee prints. Each print is on fine velvet art paper using Ultrachrome k3 inks. This is the same type of inks that James Jean and I believe Chet Zar is using, so it’s clear that this is a great way of making prints.

“To Hold You Again” and “The Two Comedians” are both 17″ x 22″ in an edition of 100. “Sister Beatrice” is also limited to 100, but with the slight change of the print being 17″ x 20.75″. I have always liked the “Sister Beatrice” piece, the colors are amazing in this one, and any work with skeletons is always welcomed. Especially when it is done as elegantly as Chris Peters has in these works.

“Lunch Is On Brendan” original by Justin Degarmo

If you haven’t checked out the featured artists area of the site, I suggest you go there. Not only will you see the work of Ojimbo but Justin Degarmo as well, both of them are amazing artists.

The piece shown here is an original that is available from Justin. The piece is entitled “Lunch Is On Brendan”, as in Brendan Danielsson fellow Art Dorks member and superb artist as well. The painting is acrylic on wood, 12″ x 12″. The colors on this one are outstanding, as well as the whole layout an content. It really freaks me right out, and thats possibly why I love this painting so much, aside form the skill that Justin has of course. This painting is still available and needs to be hanging on someones wall, if not yours than maybe mine, if anyone feels like being generous…. :)

“Plum” original painting by Ravel Iglehart

Son of fine artist and illustrator Elizabeth Iglehart, Ravel is inspired by the “works of his mother, the artists of Wiener Werkstatte, art nouveau, silent film and Japanese ghost stories.”

He has a very killer style. I like the blend of the little explosions of texture and color along with the elegant linework. He has a bunch of prints for sale, along with some original drawings and the painting show here which is made from acrylic and ink. The painting is 4″ x 6″, the frame is not included but gives you a good idea of what it would look like all framed up. Hit his store here: Ravel’s Store

aotd: “Viuda” by Whitney Lenox

Todays art of the day is from artist/tattoo artist Whitney Lenox. I found her art while searching around for a tattoo artist that could easily pull off a few tattoo designs that I was lucky enough to have designed by some very killer artists.

Whitney is a tattoo artist in Los Angeles. With her fine art she works in a variety of media such as pen and ink, acrylics and even watercolors. I really love how she uses the watercolors, and her ink works, ok so all of her work just rules. You can see it all by checking out her “images” area, and if you really dig her work she has prints available over at BlackMarket Art Company

“Awful | Homesick” The Art of Alex Pardee, now available

If you head on over to Zerofriends, you can snag up the new artbook released by Alex Pardee.
This is a hardcover book with 96-pages of Alex’s favorite works from 2005 to present.

The book is in full color, and from the images on the site it looks amazing. Next to prints I think art books are the next best thing to get if you can’t get the originals. It’s always great to work up a nice library filled with art books.

The best thing is this book is only $20. That is a major steal. Head on over and pick one up.
