“Queen Wasp”, new print by Naoto Hattori

Naoto has an upcoming show at the Limited Addiction Gallery along with Anthony Ausgang and Lori Field, but a new print is available from his shop as we speak.

The print is 13″ x 13.5″, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. This is a really killer print, I love the layout, all the action that is going on in this piece and I am a big fan of any art based on wasps and bees. The face and body of the Queen Wasp look quite amazing. Head on over and check out the new prints, and keep your eye open for the new show he will be a part of.

“After the Flood, Trust Waivers”, new print by Andy Kehoe

Andy Kehoe has released a new print, one that many of his fans have been asking for. The print is entitled “After the Flood, Trust Waivers”, and is 16″ x 12″ on the very desirable Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper. This print is limited to an edition of 25, signed and numbered.

I really love the minimalistic background on this one. It causes your eye to shoot right for the main creature in the piece. Then you eye starts freakin out on the detail of all the tiny branches that comprise that massive head. Killer work. Head on over and pick one of these prints up, before they are all gone.

“Modern Amusement” opens, Sept 12th

Tonight at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco a group show featuring work by Rueben Rude, Ahren Hertel, Brandi Milne & Jason Limon opens.

The new work by Ahren features the new style that is doing now (shown). It’s a killer progression from his earlier work. The stylized figures from before have morphed into more realistic figures, but the elements, colors and icons in his work are still there. It’s a great step forward, I’m looking forward to seeing the works in person. Check out the rabbit in this one, he looks amazing.

Head on over and check out the show online, or stop by tonight, check out the show and maybe say hi if you bump into me. Gallery1988 SF

Naoto Hattori originals for sale

Naoto Hattori has some new original paintings for sale in his online store. The latest painting added to the store is “Mind Stream”. The painting itself is a little under 4″ x 6″, which really goes to show the level of detail that he puts into each one of these works.

What also blows me away is the fact that he is using acrylics. The background I can kind of see the staining effect that acrylics do so well, but the face and the blending that is going on there is amazing. This painting also looks killer in the frame, you can see this when you go to the store area.

Head on over and check out what he has to offer. Naoto Hattori Store

aotd: “Reclining in White” by Jeremy Lipking

Well, I started my classes this past week and am taking my first oil painting class. I have painted in watercolors and acrylics before, but never oils. I now have a major appreciation for those that can use them, not like I wasn’t completely mesmerized before.

So, while waiting for paint to day I went out looking for oil paintings that made me truly appreciate how far I have to go. There is of course Michael Hussar, Kevin Llewellyn, Sean Cheetham and today’s featured art by Jeremy Lipking. The piece shown here is beautiful in every way, I really wish I was able to see this in person, as these little internet pics remove so much of the experience of looking at art. The nightgown and its transparency is amazing. Jeremy has a DVD out that shows how he paints, and there is also this little step by step if you want to take a look. Lipking Step by Step

Head on over to his homepage to see more work, and order a dvd or book if you wish, I’m saving for the dvd as well.

Shows now online: Audrey Kawasaki & “Fresh Faces”

Two shows that opened last week are now online for you to check out.

“Fresh Faces” is a group show at the Project Gallery in LA. The show features work by Nimit Malavia, Yuta Onoda, Dominique Fung and Martha Chan. I heard that some, or all of these artists intern with James Jean. So you can see the influence there, but the individual artists voice are quite clear. It’s a great show, head on over and check it out: ProjectGallery.com

The other show that opened is a solo show of Audrey Kawasaki. The show is at the Mondo Bizzarro Gallery in Italy. The work looks great, I really dig the darker/stained wood pieces she has in this show. Kind of a nice change from her other works. There were prints from the show, but looks like they are all gone. Not surprising, her prints usually sell out in a few seconds. Check out the show: Mondo Bizzarro Gallery

Featured artists for September : Justin Degarmo & Ojimbo

Since the Lori Earley print contest was going on for all of August, we took a break from the featured artists area. Now we are back in full swing and I would like to welcome the September featured artists, Justin Degarmo & Ojimbo (Jim Sheely). I’m very happy to be showing their work, i’ve been a fan of both of theirs for quite some time.

I would also like to thank July’s featured artists, Sarah Bereza and Edith Lebeau. I have their work in the archive area of the “Featured Artists” area, so while you head over to check out this months art you can also look at some of the past features.

“Dark Pop” at the Last Rites Gallery Sept 6th

Looks like I almost forgot this one. The Dark Pop show curated by Andrew Michael Ford opens up this Saturday at the Last Rites Gallery. The preview for the show is already online, there is some killer work for this show. I don’t know if I would have called it “dark” though, some of the pieces are, but maybe I just have a different view of what is “dark” art and what isn’t.

Either way, it’s still a good show so head on over and take a look at what is to offer. I really love the works by Esao Andrews, David Macdowell & Tessar Lo.

“Untitled” by Michael Ryan

Today’s art of the day is from an artist that has quickly become a favorite of mine. I found his work browsing around, bouncing from gallery site to gallery site. I was blown away when I looked at the work n his online gallery.

He works in oils, and also does a good amount of works on paper as well. I love how beautifully rendered his works are, but you can also see the energy in some of the wild strokes, and drips of paint. The colors are amazing, such as the piece shown here. It glows when you look at it, and knowing how images on the net are, I can imaging the real piece, directly in front of you would love breathtaking.

For more of Michael’s work head on over to his homepage. I will surely be showing his work on the Creep many more times.
