“Audacity” print by Dave Kinsey

Looks like Dave Kinsey has a new print coming from BLK/MRKT Editions. This 4 color screenprint is on 100% cotton rag, signed and numbered in an edition of 100. They will be available today, March 26th so keep checking the site for them to pop up. As you can see on the site, Dave’s print pretty much all sell out and I imagine this one will be no different. It’s a pretty striking piece.

Preview: Chris Anthony @ Corey Helford Gallery

Coming this Saturday, March 28th to the Corey Helford Gallery is a new solo show by award winning photographer Chris Anthony entitled “Venice”. The show will feature images of a world ravaged by global warming, where a “mysterious sinking civilization is unveiled, Inhabited by aquatic survivors and enchanting lost souls”. Looking at the preview images, I am reminded of a painting by Sublime Era artist, Caspar David Friedrich. Specifically his “Monk by the Sea” piece. These photos have that same overwhelming emotional quality, you easily feel the vastness surrounding the figures.

Hit the read more link to see the rest of the preview.

New works and process by Molly Brill

I featured some new originals by Molly back in February, but I just learned that she created a new blog so the originals can be found there now. On this new blog, she posted some new smaller works (shown) that she has been working on, and even added some process shots so we can see how these get made. I really love the dreamy quality that she gets with watercolor, and the colors are so rich. “Delusion” is on the left and “Phantom” the right. Each one of these smaller works is 4″ x 6″(5″ x 7″ with border).

She also posted a teaser of a new one that she is working on, and it looks to be a full figure. I can’t wait to see the finished version.
Head on over to Molly’s new blog, see what she has in store and which originals are still available.

Watchmen “Sally Jupiter” print by James Jean

Back in July James Jean shared an illustration that he did of Sally Jupiter (played by Carla Gugino) from the movie Watchmen. The image showed up in the trailer, but only for a second. Shame as it’s a really great illustration. The Art Director Alex McDowell wanted the piece to have a Vargas like feel to it, I think James succeeded perfectly with that.

The print is 17″ x 22″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, it’s open edition so the print will be in the shop for a while now.

“Kids that like to fight” originals by Christopher Uminga

Christopher Uminga recently had a solo show at the David Apuzzo Photography and Art Gallery; the show was entitled “Kids that like to fight” and was filled with some really great portrait work. The show is now available to view and purchase in the online shop of the gallery. All of the work looks to be pretty big, 16 x 24, 24 x 24 and so on. The piece shown is my favorite, “Ronnie Zebock”, check out those brass knuckles. That kids a bruiser.

“My Mary” print by Mark Dean Veca

BLK/MRKT editions has recently released a new print by Brooklyn based artist Mark Dean Veca. This new print is a 2 color screenprint on 100% rag paper. It is 18″ x 24″ signed, numbered and stamped in an edition of 100. This print comes from a piece that Mark had in his recent “Phantasmagoria” show at The Ben Maltz Gallery last October.

I am a huge fan of the Pieta sculpture by Michelangelo, so seeing this referenced in a modern piece such as this is just great.
Along with the orange version, there is also a Black and White version that is limited to only 10.

“Priest” letterpress print by Justin Kamerer

Justin Kamerer, also known as Angryblue, has released a new print; this time it’s a letter press print. The print is 11″ x 14″ with 2 impressions, one blind emboss and the other is black-red. The print is signed and numbered in an edition of 75. It’s a beautiful looking print, and is priced at only $25 including shipping.

It looks like the priest images was first used for a “Witch/Earthless” poster, which kooks great but worked killer for this letter press print. I really hope that Justin does more of these, his style fits so well.

Art of the Day: “Exit 11″ by John Cebollero

John Cebollero is another one of the artists that has been on the Creep Machine a few times. He had an amazing painting for the B Movie Show, and made of the more striking pieces for the “This is the End” Show. When I first saw it I was blown away, the colors that John is able to get and the ability that he has with acrylic paints is nothing short of spectacular.

So here is the painting that John entered for the show, it’s acrylic 8″ x 10″. I love the almost cartoon looking blood with that almost glowing, detailed figure and background.
The piece is still available, as are a few works from the show.

“The North Wind and the Sun” print by Naoto Hattori

Coming April 4th at the Copro Gallery is “Overdose”, a new group show by Hi Fructose. One of the pieces for the show is “The North Wind and the Sun”. The painting is a parody of Botticelli’s “Birth of Venus and Aesop’s Fable “The North Wind and the Sun”. I love much of Naoto’s art, but this has to be my favorite piece from him so far; I am a big fan of Botticelli. The painting is sold already, but a print of it has been added to Naoto’s online shop. The print is 16″ x 20″ signed and numbered in an edition of 50.

I hope Naoto does some more classical figurative pieces like this one.

Shawn Barber limited giclees and poster prints

Moviegoods.com has 4 limited edition giclee prints from Shawn Barber. The prints are all on canvas, expect for the Gregory Mocilnikar print which is on paper. The prints are signed and numbered by the artist in either an edition of 75 or 100. The 4 prints are of Kerry McCracken (shown), Gregory Mocilnikar, Juan Puente’s Machines & Genevive Zacconi.

Along with these limited edition prints, there are also some cheaper “poster” prints available. The poster prints start out at 9.99, and come in either an 11″ x 17″ size or 24″ x 36″. They aren’t limited, but from what the site says they will only be printing them up until March 31st. After that no orders will be taken. I have one of these cheaper prints and for the price they really aren’t bad at all. There is a huge amount to choose from, such as the Tara McPherson shown below.
