“All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy” print @ Last Exit to Nowhere

While goofing off at work, I was able to find an amazing t-shirt company based in the UK “Last Exit to Nowhere”. Along with having an insane amount of shirts based on some of the best cult movies imaginable, they also have a limited edition print to be had. “All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy” is a screenprint based on that exceedingly chilling scene in Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 masterpiece “The Shining”. It never occurred to me how great of a print this would make until I saw it on this site. This screenprint is 16.5″ x 23.4″ on natural white paper with water based ink, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for around $64. This print is does not come framed, the image just shows what it will look like all framed up.

“Unscheduled Maintenance” print by Eric Joyner

Artistaday.com has added a new print to their online shop. This new print from Eric Joyner is entitled “Unscheduled Maintenance”, is on Epson UltraSmooth paper, 27″ x 15″, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 for $225.
Eric is quite an outstanding painter, and this large giclee print will surely retain all of the energetic brush work that is present in each one his paintings.

Dave MacDowell @ Monsters of Pop Show

This past week the “Monsters of Pop” group show opened at the Gallery 1988 in LA. The show features work by Netherland, Kiersten Essenpreis, Brandon Bird and Dave MacDowell. While I liked much of the work in the show, Dave MacDowell’s pieces stood out above the rest not only because of the obvious technical skill he possesses, but the amazing ideas that he keeps churning out as well.

He has five works in the show, four of which are homages to popular paintings. Just a little bit after he unleashed “Appetite for Veruca”, a re imagining of Robert Williams controversial “Appetite for Destruction” painting, he gives us a remix of Edward Hopper’s “Nighthawks” and three from Mark Ryden: “Girl Eaten by Tree”, “Allegory of the Four Elements” & “Little Boy Blue”.

I would like to see more artists doing homages like these. There have been a few scandals recently, due to certain artists “copying” another’s work, I see no point. If you are short on ideas or want to try something new, make an homage to a past work of art. But I do feel it is important to make sure that like Dave has, you do the work justice.

“Rockhand & Eyehand” print set by Godmachine

One of this months currently featured artists, Godmachine has a print set up for grabs in his online shop. The two prints, “Rockhand” and “Eyehand” are both 12.59″ x 17.71″, signed and shipped in a heavy duty tube for only $21.50. Oh and he is also throwing in a super big sticker into the mix. Both prints look amazing, and would look perfect framed up and displayed next to each other.

Artists: Matt Dye

I often get submitted artists websites to check out, this is one that showed up today and I had to share. Matt Dye is an artist out of Eugene, OR. He has done a huge amount of concert posters, as well as fine art screen-prints, monographs and more. I haven’t seen any of the prints in person but they look very vibrant and sharp. Looking through the countless prints in his store, and those that have long sold out as well, there are quite a few that I am taken with.

I really like the Sharon Tate, David Bowie Mugshot and of course the Stormtrooper print (sold-out). It’s refreshing to see someone make a print of Sharon Tate, as there are far too many of the maniac linked to her. The colors in the Tate print really make the image pop, the blue make this print look electric. I’m also happy to see someone do somthing with that amazing David Bowie mugshot, I have always loved that picture.

Head on over to Matt Dye’s homepage, and see what he has on the shop. These prints and more, as well as variations on each one can be found there.

The print is 16.875″ × 15″ Archival Pigment Print on the 300gms art paper w/one deckled edge. Signed and numbered in an edition of 39 for $60 a pop. I’m glad there is now some prints available from Dave. His artwork is such a blast, and sells out pretty quick.

During the month of June, J.R. Goldberg had a skateboard design entered in a contest over at infectious.com. The winners have been announced and J.R. made top 5, we believe she was tops, but at least her design has been chosen to be sold on the site. If you like collecting skateboards, or just want to help out an amazing artist make sure you head on over and check it out. J.R. also made sure to mention the Creep Machine in her interview here.

Nhon Nguyen & Mike Wagner @ Flatcolor

Opening tonight, August 6th at Flatcolor Gallery in Seattle, is a show featuring new works by Nhon Nguyen & Mike Wagner. “Nhon Nguyen debuts a series of oils depicting the motion and energy of Skateboarders without their actual skateboards, Mike Wagner brings a series of paintings featuring intense portraits of the king of pop to Flatcolor Gallery.”

I had not seen the work of either artist before this show, but I’m glad I did. I really love the way that Mike paints, it’s very energetic and loose. The preview doesn’t seem to be up yet, so keep your eyes open on the site and if you are around the gallery, make sure to stop by.
