I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween. I just remembered that last year I made a little image for those that don’t have costume ideas, like myself at the time. So if you have a good printer you can print out this Creep Machine paper face mask and relive the good ol days when you were a kid and had crummy costumes. Maybe that was just me though.
Artist Profiles: Jason Goad
Jason Goad is an illustrator out of Ohio. He is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, and has done work for such clients as Mattel/Hot Wheels, Alternative Press, Warped Tour, The Giant Peach, Alamo Drafthouse, The Lonestar Rollergirls and many more.
One of the things that really got me hooked on his art is his drawing style; that cross hatching he does is insane. He just posted some new work for a Halloween show at C2 Gallery that I had to share. His work is not usually this dark, but it fits with the mood. Make sure you head over to his homepage to see the rest of his art, you will not regret it.
Art of the Day: “Death is a Messy Bizness” by Dan Harding
Dan Harding just shared a new painting that he will have in a group show coming this December. The show is at the Hyaena Gallery in Burbank, CA and is entitled “Kill Your Idols”. I think it’s a great idea to push past the artists that inspired you, and use the painting to show that you are moving forward with your style and taking in new influences. Here is the painting Dan is submitting, after the jump take a look at some of the paintings that inspired this one, as well as a statement from Dan about the piece.

“Jason Gets Ahead” print by Ray Frenden
With the Halloween weekend right around the corner, I have had my eyes peeled for spooky art (even more than usual). One of the recent prints I found is from Ray Frenden, a self taught illustrator with an amazing style. Pretty much most of his work is inspired by monsters and the macabre, but it also filled with some intense colors. The print shown has a bit of a more muted color palette than he uses, but fits the scene perfectly. “Jason Gets Ahead” is an open edition print on 100% cotton rag paper, and comes in three sizes starting at $25.

“Red Barren” print by Dave Kinsey
BLK/MRKT editions has just released a new print by Dave Kinsey. It says “Kinsey was inspired to create this new print after reading about the escalation of arson in the Brazilian Amazon by farmers attempting to meet unprecedented demand for soybeans by the EU and China to feed livestock. We hate deforestation, but we love this print.”
This is a 2 color screenprint on 100% cotton rag, 18″ x 24″, signed, numbered and stamped for $55.

How can you help the Lunch Bunch Project?
Back in August 2009, I posted a print from Ana Bagayan that would help with the Lunch Bunch Project she is a part of. Every week Ana and a friend get together and “create home-made meal packages to pass out to the homeless of Los Angeles, CA.” And every week they run out of money as well. I just heard this past week that Ana and cohort Mere are organizing a print auction. Donated prints will be sold and go towards helping out the Lunch Bunch Project. This is a great idea, and gives people an opportunity to be a part of such an amazing thing. I’m sure we all have some prints that are just sitting there, so why not get in touch with Ana and turn those prints into food. Contact Ana here: anabagayan@gmail.com
If you don’t have any prints to donate, there are still some copies of the “Prey” print in her shop. 100% of the proceeds from this print goes to the Lunch Bunch. The print is only
$25 + $5 shipping, and believe me they look amazing in person. A small price to pay for a great piece of art, and the ability to help those in need.

“The Looming Monster” print by Brad Macmath
Fine Grime has added some new prints by Brad Macmath. He spent some time in Tokyo said “In creating these pieces I hope to give the viewer an idea of Tokyo as an outsider, but also a view of Tokyo from my personal perspective. ”
This is a great looking print, a little busy but I imagine that is what Tokyo is like. It is the clear the amount of information seen is just what Bran is relaying to use. The print is roughly 24″ x 27″, signed and numbered in an edition of 50.

“Vampirella” painting by Arabella Proffer
Arabella Proffer just added a new original oil painting to her Etsy shop. “Vampirella” was first shown at the “Identity Theft: reinventing the comic hero” exhibition that took place last year. The painting is 8″ x 10″, oil on canvas and is already in an ornate gold frame. Arabella’s style of painting worked out perfect for the character. It’s a great painting for this Halloween, and is classy enough to keep up all year.
