“The Electric Ghosts (Daniel Johnston & Jack Medicine)” print by Ron English

The folks over at Dirty Pilot have just released one of the most amazing Ron English prints I have seen in a while. “The Electric Ghosts (Daniel Johnston & Jack Medicine)” is a print for the collaborative music project “Electric Ghosts” featuring Daniel Johnston and Jack Medicine (Don Goede). The two come up with some really great music, worthy of a print that is this cool looking. The print by Ron English is 20″ x 20″ on archival fine art paper, hand signed By Daniel Johnston, Ron English and Jack Medicine. The print is limited to a very small run of only 10. Daniel Johnston has number one, Jack Medicine has number two & Ron English has number three. So that leaves three for the rest of us since a few others were sold at various galleries. Really wish this came out earlier so I could have budgeted holiday funds better.

“Crack Cocaine Superheroes Series ” by Eightpussy

It’s been a long time since I have seen any new work from the artist known as Eightpussy. The last painting was for the “This is the End” show back in March. I know that she has been apprenticing to become a tattoo artist, which is a great idea. I can only imagine what she will be able to do with her insane color palettes. It looks as though she has been working on some art again and even came up with a cool little series, the “Crack Cocaine Superheroes Series”. This is such a great idea, and if your like me and grew up in some pretty rough areas, people who look like this are all too familiar. What I love about her art is that she is able to get the smoothest, most beautiful rendering of people with the material she uses and then do the opposite such as these. The faces in these images look run down and far from glamorous. Can’t wait to see more.

Until then, keep up to date on her profile: Eightpussy @ Myspace

“The Warriors” posters by Tyler Stout and Eric Tan @ Mondotees

In the past few weeks the Alamo Drafthouse, who release some of the coolest movie inspired posters around, announced that they are doing a series of poster prints based on cult classic “The Warriors”. I have always been a big fan of that movie, but not a lot of art has been created from it. The first releases for this series are from Tyler Stout and Eric Tan. There are 3 posters available from Stout, a cut set at 16″ x 24″ each, metallic inks, signed and numbered in an edition of 450 for $35. Then there is the uncut version with a bonus sidebar with more illustrations, 24″ x 36″, signed and numbered in an edition of 200 for $80, there is also a variant gold/silver uncut posters that is unfortunately sold out. The poster from Eric Tan is a 24″ x 36″ screenprint, signed and numbered in an edition of 300 for $30.

These prints are bound to go fast, so make sure you head on over and pick one up: Mondotees.com

Dan Harding originals @ Congregation Gallery

Congregation Arts, the folks that have been put on the Forgotten Saints, Voodoo and Metal inspired shows now have a full fledged website. Images from their last show “The Second Annual METAL Art Show” are now up to view. Paintings by Cam De Leon, Vincent Castiglia, Chris Peters, Fred Harper, Vince Locke, Cate Rangel and the always amazing Dan Harding are still available. The painting by Dan used for the flyer “Threshold” (shown) and another “Apocalyptic Self” were in the show. I really dig “Threshold”, the colors are great and the pose he has that figure in is really dynamic. If you have never seen a Dan Harding painting in person you are truly missing out. The details he achieves with oils is nuts. His work is starting to sell out faster as the shows go by, I am honestly surprised these two are not sold yet. Especially for the price they are set at.

Artists Profiles: Andrew Wodzianski

An artist working out of Washington DC, Andrew Wodzianski graduated with a Masters from the Maryland Institute College of Art. His work has been published the Washington Post and shown at galleries such as Art Whino, Fraser Gallery and more. He works in a variety of mediums; inks, gouache, marker, acrylic and oils. His mixed media works have a more graphic feel to them, while his oil paintings tend to be more classical in style. It is his paintings that caught my eye from the start. You’ll first notice looking in his gallery that he has quite a few series of works. From his muted and washed out “House” series to the “Sequences” and “Coulrophobia” (fear of clowns) series. I really enjoyed the “Lucha Libre! / Persephone & Other Paintings” section as well as his Earlier work which is the most classical out of the bunch. The painting that stands out the most to me is “Paul” (shown), which was inspired by DH Lawrence’s “Rocking Horse Winner” and Caravaggio’s “Conversion on the way to Damascus”. It’s a great idea and painted beautifully.

“The Multi-Plane” group show @ Corey Helford Gallery

This past Saturday, December 12th at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City the “Multi-Plane” group show opened up. For the past few weeks I have been seeing some previews of some of the pieces in the show, one of the great reasons to check out artists blogs now and again. The idea of the show is that “Each of these paintings is an original work created on two layers of glass and a masonite panel background, emulating the multi-plane process developed by animators in the 1930’s to create depth in animated features. Each surface is separated by 3/8 of an inch and the entire painting is housed in a custom-made frame.”

Click the read more to see more images and short review of the show. After that head over to the site and check out the rest of the show:

“BourbonRat” print by Justin Kamerer

Justin Kamerer (angryblue) has just released a new print. “Bourbonrat” is a 2 color screenprint, 18″ x 18″ signed and numbered in an edition of around 60. Some of the paper was damaged in the printing, so the edition is roughly 60-70. The print can be had for the low price of $20 + shipping. Justin says that this print is “the most accurate portrayal of Christmas spirit there is!”

“Wood Nymph” print by Naoto Hattori

Naoto Hattori has just added a new print to his online shop. “Wood Nymph” is 15″ x 16″ on fine art paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for $150. It’s one of the more busy prints that he has released in a while now. There is a lot of detail and information going on here. Not quite my thing, but I still love his work.
