Artist Profiles: Doug Gordon

Doug Gordon is a Seattle based artist. He works in both digital as well as airbrushed paintings. His work is very colorful and surreal. His website shows some closeups of the paintings, showing how much control Doug has with the airbrush. I would love to see these paintings in person, they trul deserve to be seen up close.

Head on over and take a look at the rest of Doug’s work: Strangosity.com

Ana Bagayan has added a new print to her online shop. “Critters” is 13 x 19.5″ on 15 x 21.5″ Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 30 for $100. “Forget About It” original by Mr. Frivolous

The artist known as Mr. Frivolous has added an original drawing to his etsy shop. “Forget About It” is felt tip pen on paper, and is framed. The listing does not have the size shown, but I imagine for the price I am going to guess it to be around 8″ x 10″, don’t quote me on that though. If anyone knows any different, let me know.
It’s a great looking piece, some energetic marks and the colors are nice as well.

“You Have To Let Go Eventually” print by Glenn Arthur

Glenn Arthur has released a new print through Society6. “You Have To Let Go Eventually” comes in either 17″ x 21″ or 22″ x 27″, on ultra smooth 100% cotton rag paper with Epson K3 archival inks. This would be a great looking print to go alongside his “Loving You Splintered Me To The Bone” print I featured a bit back.

“Hound” print by James Jean

Just before the new years I posted about the “Rickshaw” print by James Jean. This print can now be found in his online shop, along with a new print based on a painting. “Hound” is 22″ x 17″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, signed and embossed for $87. It’s a very colorful and energetic print, I don’t know if I am feeling it as much as some of his other work, but he is definitely one of those artists that always makes interesting work.

Eclectix Gallery Closing, clearance sale

I just got word that Eclectix Gallery in El Cerrito is closing down. This has been a tough time for art and galleries alike. No matter how important we all know art to be, the sales have just not been enough to keep some galleries open. The gallery is having a clearance sale, all the fixtures, furniture and inventory is being sold 50% off. You can see what is being sold Here. Patricia, the owner, also posted a great comment on the site talking about the closing and details. Head on over and take a look, and if you live in the area make sure to stop by the gallery. There just might be something there you like.

I would like to thank last months featured artists, Jeremy Forson and Glenn Arthur whom are now in the featured artists archive. Fred Harper will also be showing at the Last Rites Gallery this coming February 6th, alongside Nick Baxter. For now head on over to the features and check out work from Fred and Adrian.

Review: Krista Huot’s “Nepenthe @ Gallery 1988 SF

Over the weekend I check out a couple of shows in San Francisco, one of which was Kista Huot’s solo show “Nepenthe” at Gallery 1988. I wanted to see the work in person like I always do, andI had a feeling that Krista’s work looked different in person. Her colors are far more vibrant in real life, and you can really get close to see all of the drybrushing found throughout her work. She also varnishes each painting so photos often wash out the painting, and doesn’t show the gloss that is achieved. Krista was there for the reception, so I was able to talk with her a bit about her work, materials and inspirations. I won’t go too into detail as I will have an interview on the site with Krista in the coming weeks. So hit the more link and see more images, and a little bit of what Krista had to say.
