“Your Ordinary Hero” print by Lola

To go along with Lola’s “Ipsum Factum” show at the Corey Helford Gallery, a limited edition print is now available. Based on the largest painting in the show, “Your Ordinary hero”, this print is 25″ x 20″ image area on 29″ x 24″ paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for $250 each. I love that the print is such a large size, as there is so much detail in the work.

Lola’s “Ipsum Factum” @ Corey Helford Gallery

This past Saturday, March 27th, the Corey Helford Gallery opened “Ipsum Factum” the latest solo show from Lola. This show features over a dozen new acrylic painting, ranging in size from the very impressive 50″ x 40″ “Your Ordinary Hero” painting, all the way down to “Sushi” coming in at only 1.5″ oval. As of writing this, the show is pretty much sold out; It’s not surprising as Lola always has great work, and this show is very solid. The paintings all flow together beautifully, and the color palette she uses really helps to bring the world she has created to life, a very surreal life at that. I love the idea that these paintings are made with acrylics. More and more, artists are showing that a medium once thought to not be as dynamic as oils, truly is in the right hands.

“Game Over” sculpture by Kordian Lewandowski

Saw this floating around some of the art & design sites and had to share. Polish artist Kordian Lewandowski drawn inspiration from Michelangelo’s famous sculpture, La Pieta, and reinterpreted the piece with Mario and the Princess. Entitled “Game Over”, the sculpture was made out of polystyrene foam, first chiseled down with a chainsaw and then refined with more standard tools. Head on over to his website for more images, and to take a look at the other inspiring work he makes.

Hi Fructose 5th Anniversary Exhibition @ Copro Gallery

This past March 13th, the Copro Galley opened the 5th Anniversary Exhibition for Hi Fructose. Along with this amazing group show, Eric Fortune and Michael Page also had solo shows up as well. The group show featured some inspiring work by KMNDZ, Scott Hove, Martin Wittfooth, Lori Earley, Eric Fortune, Craola, Chet Zar, Amy Sol, Kris Kuksi, Jonathan Viner, Chris Mars and many more. The Eric Fortune works are not up on the site as of yet, but the Michael Page solo show is. His latest works have been more abstract, and less figurative than earlier pieces. These paintings still hold the same narrative feel that his older works had, and are even more mysterious than ever. The colors are breathtaking, and I like the idea that he decided to change his work up a bit. Take a look at the preview images from the shows, and then head on over and see all of the works.

Art of the Day: “Billy Pilgrim” by Laura Bifano

A while back I Featured the work of Canadian artist, Laura Bifano. She has updated with her blog with some new work, one of which I had to share. “Billy Pilgrim” is based on a character from the popular book “Slaughterhouse Five” by Kurt Vonnegut. This was the book that was instrumental in me subsequently buying every Vonnegut had written. I had an idea in my head how the character would look, and I think Laura pretty much saw the same thing I did. It’s a great image and one that I think would make a great cover, or somehow tied to the book more so that other fans could enjoy it.

Etsy Finds: “Dear” print by Miss Hotten

Mondays are usually pretty slow as far as news go, so I thought I would start a new section. “Etsy Finds” will feature a work of art that was found while perusing Etsy. There is a lot of great work to be found on that site, and some well known artists even sell their art there. This weeks find is by ‘Miss Hotten” and is a hand-drawn 2-layer lithograph, printed on tan Rives BFK printmaking paper. The image size is 6″ x 6″ and the paper is 8″ x 9″, each print is also signed and numbered in an edition of 28 for $30 each. If you look at the prints in the shop, you can see that the edges of the paper are all deckled. Its a great looking image, haunting and minimal in its design which helps add to the classy feel.
