aotd: “Lithium Lynn” by John Larriva

Today’s art of the day is from Portland based artist, John Larriva. He works in both digital and traditional methods, and even though he is quite skilled in both, I’m really hooked on the traditional works he creates such as the piece below, which I’m just going to guess is made from oils.

I love the emotion in this piece, for some reason it reminds me of Edgar Degas “L’Absinthe”. It must be the feeling in it, it has that same kind of down-trodden feel to it. But I also see some strength in this piece, the look on her face also hints as to someone who has had enough and isn’t ready to let one more thing happen. Think Steve McQueen when you look at that cigarette.
