Dan Harding just shared a new painting that he will have in a group show coming this December. The show is at the Hyaena Gallery in Burbank, CA and is entitled “Kill Your Idols”. I think it’s a great idea to push past the artists that inspired you, and use the painting to show that you are moving forward with your style and taking in new influences. Here is the painting Dan is submitting, after the jump take a look at some of the paintings that inspired this one, as well as a statement from Dan about the piece.

Here is what Dan said about this new painting:

“My thought process behind this piece was leaving my early influences behind and showing what inspires me now as well as some things that are closest to me in my life. Like my love of horror, art and my cat Fraz. I have always been a big Frazetta and Bisley fan and was really inspired by their work when I first started painting. Even before I started painting I was a Frazetta fan! The painting shows where I was, where I am and where I’m hopefully going. Being comfortable enough in my own ability to inspire myself rather than looking to other sources.”

Here is a couple of paintings by Frazetta and Bisley that might have inspired this one. Either way they are examples of work from both artists. Thanks to Ross Rosenberg for finding the “Bad Boy” cover shown below.
