Originally from Scotland, Liam Barr emigrated with his family to New Zealand when he was very young. He now lives and works in Wellington. He works primarily with oils, and states his paintings “reinterpret and imbue the romantic essence of the historical context in a contemporary fashion, offering an altogether alternative view. Looking at his paintings you can see that he has a very tight style, with the figures being distorted to a certain degree. I would love to see these up close. He has an upcoming show soon at the John Leech Gallery, however it looks like all of the work from the show is available to view on his website. Liam also has quite a large amount of limited edition prints available, so check those out while your there.
