I’ve been a little busy the past few weeks, I imagine many have noticed due to the infrequency of posts, and I missed some really good shows to post. For instance a duo show with Madeline Von Foerster & Benjamin A. Vierling that opened at Roq La Rue on July 8th and closes this August 6th. The two artists, referred to as “neo-medievalists”, both use classcial techniques in their paintings. Both artists use the Mische Technique, a style of painting found by the Dutch masters of the 15th century that helps to produce these intense paintings with more depth, color, and transparency than other methods can achieve. I would love to see these in person. I lie the fact that along with paintings, Madeline Von Foerster also had a couple of drawings on exhibit. Another thing that struck me, being the art history geek that I am, is that both artists we inspired by classical works of art and themes. I really like the Medusa painting by Vierling, and the “Odalisque” style painting from Foester; both shown below. The show is open for a few more days so if your in the area make sure to stop by.
