Dangerous INK magazine is having an auction to help keep the mag on the stands. A bunch of original artwork as well as prints have been donated. It’s got to be hard competing with mags like Juxtapoz and Hi-Fructose, but there’s always room for another publication about art. The auction has an original painting by Chet Zar and Leslie Ditto, and prints by Liz McGrath, Gary Baseman, Amy Sol and A.Andrew Gonzalez.

Head on over and take a look. Dangerous INK auction

The always amazing Dan May has just released a new limited edition print. The print is 8″ x 10″ with a 1′ border, printed on Hahnemuhle cotton rag, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. It also comes with a certificate of authenticity. It’s a beautiful image, the colors and the way that Dan paints plant life is truly impressive. These prints are only $35 a pop, so I don’t imagine they will last long.

This week is just filled with amazing shows. Coming to the Shooting Gallery in SF this Saturday, June 13th is a solo exhibition of new paintings by Greg Gossel. The show is entitled “Happy Endings”, even though the art in the show is a bit darker than his previous works. In an interview with Arrested Motion, Greg said “Many of the pieces incorporate this ongoing theme of a fall from grace, pieces of our collective history which were not the storybook endings that are so often portrayed in mass media.” This idea is quickly understood when you see some of the paintings which incorporate iconic figures like Mike Tyson, Princess Diana and JFK. The show looks massive, with over 60 paintings ranging from 12″ x 12″ and 106″ x 75″ such as “Iron Mike” (shown). The works are online to view, so head on over and take a look and if you can try to catch the show in person. There is also a great video priview over at Vimeo Here

Looks like the Jonathan Levine Gallery has had a facelift, the site is much more streamlined now and looks great. It’s not a far departure from the last site, but a welcomed update. Along with the new site, the gallery is also having a sale. For the next week, until June 16th gte 20% off all items such as books, toys and prints. There is a huge amount of books to choose from: Chris Mars, Jeff Soto, Barry McGee, Blek le Rat, David Choe, Dave Cooper and more. The sale would surely help for prints like “The Parade of the Damned” by Todd Schorr (shown)

The new website looks great, it’s easy to move around in and the thumbnails in the gallery are excellent. As for the prints, each one is 9″ x 21″ with a 1″ bleed, signed and numbered in editions of 90 for only $50 each. If you are looking to get all three, you can get $25 off.

Coming to Roq la Rue gallery this Friday, June 12th is “Best Loved Tales of Misery and Woe” by Travis Lampe and “About:Face” by Chris Crites. This is Travis’ debut show with the gallery and from the preview images, it looks like its going to be a hit. I am really into cartoon/vintage animation so Lampe’s is always a blast to see. Not only does he have new paintings in the show, but prints and 3d work as well. Vimby has a great interview with him as well, check it out here. I am liking the new work by Chris Crites as well, the paintings while colorful and dynamic, remind me a lot of old cabinet photos. If you can’t wait for the show to be online, make sure you get on the preview list.

Brian Ewing has just a couple of original drawings to his online shop. He rarely makes original drawings like these available, so if it’s something you have been waiting for rush over there now. “Skull Study” is graphite on Rives BFk 8.5″ x 11″, and “Innsmouth Study” is graphite on Rives BFk 8.5″ x 11″ as well. There are some process shots for the Innsmouth piece, showing the steps that he took to get the final drawing. I really love how that one came out, a few of the tentacles are even echoing the way some of the hair flows. I can imagine this one becoming a tattoo, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw one very soon.
