New paintings by Johnny Crap
Jonathan Bergeron, otherwise known as Johnny Crap, has added some new paintings to his online shop. Two have sold already, but there is still a couple of very cool paintings, at an amazing price. “Lil Viking” and “Pink Metal” are both oil on wood, the pic of “Lil Viking” is cropped just a bit. I love the idea of “Pink Metal.” I am not the biggest fan of this color, but I think I would make an exception for this painting.

Interview: Joe Scarano
For the month of June, we have another single artist feature with interview, this time from Joe Scarano. I sent Joe some questions, and was able to feature more than 20 images of his amazing artwork.
Cm: You grew up in Florida and New York, were you active in creating art during your childhood?
Joe: Yes! I was always drawing and doodling for as long as I can remember.
As a youngster I was always drawing really elaborate space battles and hot rods. I was also obsessed with Mad magazine and trying to re-create the covers.
Eventually I graduated to painting heavy metal album covers on my friends denim jackets. I once painted Cannibal Corpse’s Butchered at Birth album cover on a friends jacket, I had to hide if from my family for fear of being put into a mental ward!
Cm: Are you mainly a self taught artist, or did you have any formal training in the arts, such as a university or private school?
Joe: Kind of half and half… I took art classes all throughout school and then studied graphic design in college. I never focused on illustration or painting during school, I picked up most of that after I was already working as a designer.

“Girl with Stars in her Hair” series by Gene Guynn
Gene Guynn has been releasing some images from a new series of paintings he has been working on. This series is entitled “Girl with Stars in her Hair”, and each one is 4″ x 6″, graphite with watercolor. The pieces are all for an upcoming show in Hong Kong that focuses on 4″ x 6″ works of art. I really love the look of these mixed media paintings, and hope that after this show Gene continues in this direction for a bit.

New drawings by Jonathan Bergeron
Johnny Crap, or Jonathan Bergeron, has added some new drawings to his online shop. The works are all ink on Aquabee or bristol paper, and range in sizes. The drawings look amazing, and really show how skilled Johnny is with ink. The drawings are all under $100 and I’m sure will go fast. I especially like Darth Vato, Zombie Viking, and Wolfman Baseball shown below.

New posters at the Alamo Drafthouse
Alamo Drafthouse/Mondotees have just released three new posters. Two are based on the movie The Warriors, and the third is based on George Romero’s newest installment of the “Dead” series, Survival of the Dead. This poster is made by Charlie Adlard, the artist behind the amazing Walking Dead comic, although I did like the previous pencil work of Tony Moore when the series first started.

New works by John Larriva
John Larriva (previously featured) has added some new work to his homepage and etsy site. Along with new oil paintings, he has also released some sculptures. I have been a fan of his work since the moment I saw “Lithium Lynn.” Each of his paintings are filled with color, and the way he handles the paint is outstanding.
Aotd: “Girl in the Window” by Peter C Matthews
I haven’t posted an Art of the Day image for a while as I have been finishing up school, but I am now nearing the end and what to get this section going again. So todays painting is from Peter C Matthews, an artist out of South Africa. Most of his work is figural in a variety of mediums, with some landscapes and wildlife as well. “Girl in the Window” is based off a photo he found on the internet, and recreated in oil. The image is very mysterious and ghostly, and in a way has a tenebrous style to it. I would love to see Matthews do a whole series of portraits in this style.
