Opening this Friday, October 9th at the Halogen Gallery in Seattle is a new solo show from Kelly Vivanco. This is going to be her final show for a year or more as she will be preparing for her next solo show at Thinkspace. Most of the work in this new show has water as one of the main elements; Either water is present in the painting, or in the case of her “porthole” style paintings the design is inspired by the sea. One of the things I love about this new show, is that along with all of the new paintings, which happen to be round, she also created a wooden, 3-dimensional houseboat. I hope this is something that she does more of, her style as well as the color palette she used fits this type of work perfectly.

Brian Smith is a painter out of Los Angeles, that is inspired by Roberto Matta and Zdzislaw Beksinski. Brian recently started a blogger account, to not only keep people up to date with what he is doing artwise, but also to follow along with his new “$100 surreal oil-painting-a-day” venture. This new paintings are all 5″ x 7″ on canvas panel.

Coming off of EGO solo show, “Light in the Darkness” at Flatcolor is a new print based on the “Side by Side” painting that was also used on the flyer. The print is 4.8″ x 6.6″ on an 8″ x 10″ piece of Hahnemuhle Museum Etching (350 gsm, 100% Rag) Fine Art Paper. Signed and numbered in an edition of 20 for $40.

The folks over at the always amazing Pressure Printing have just released a new print by Femke Hiemstra. “Haniwa” is 8.75″ x 12.75″, embossed intalgio print on handcrafted Twinrocker paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 for $150 each. The print also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
This is quite a beautiful looking print, and the art of Femke looks perfect with this type of presentation.

The folks over at Project Squadt have a new collectible toy dropping today. CHIPP S3 ‘HALLOWEEN SKELSUIT’ is limited to 200 pieces, is 6″ tall, Includes: candycorn axe, GID limbs, GID skelsuit and removable GID helmet all for $75. These toys tend to go pretty fast so head on over before they’re gone.
I Want Your Skull Issues 1 & 2 have been reprinted in one volume. The zine is now 80 pages and “features all the artwork and interviews from the first two issues of I Want Your Skull, as well as, a brand new, full color, wrap-around cover by Geordan Moore.”
There will be interviews with artists such as Brian Morris, Drew Millward, and art from Brian Ewing, Angryblue and many more.
Each issue will also come with “(2) silk-screened art prints distributed randomly from a selection of all the prints we have previously published, and the whole thing comes poly-bagged and packed in a custom printed envelope with a logo designed by Tanxxx.”

Here is the rundown of shows opening the weekend on October 2nd.
Friday:
Flatcolor Gallery opened the latest solo show of EGO, “Light in the Darkness” on Thursday, but the full preview for the show with all the works is now up.
La Luz de Jesus will open two new shows from John Puglisi and Mitch O’ Connell. I haven’t seen too many posts on the various art sites about this show, there should be it looks amazing. Both shows are online to view, head on over and take a look.
Eclectix Gallery will host “Art Attack”, a one night event of live painting, drawings, and meet and greet with Ben Jelter, Nicolas Ceasar, Sherwin Viray and Stephanie Mufson.
Cave Gallery will open “Coisas Esquisitas”, a group show featuring work by Tatiana Suarez, Danni Shinya Luo, Kendra Binney, Jaw Cooper & Tina Darling
Saturday:
Rivet Gallery is opening a duo show with new works from Scott Tolleson and Alberto Cerriteño. Good mix of custom toys, and Alberto’s amazing paper-cut works
Corey Helford will open the latest solo shows of Van Arno and Melissa Forman. I featured some work a bit ago, and this show is not to be missed
Hive Gallery will host the “Tarot: Group Show”, featuring work by Michael Ryan, NC Winters, Jessica Ward, Delphia, Gregory Rodriguez and many more.
Copro Nason will have new shows from Chet Zar, Rachel Bess, Winston Smith and Dark Vomit. Do not miss this Chet Zar show!
Justin Kamerer (AngryBlue) has just released a new letterpress print. “Mandrake” is 11″ x 14″, signed and numbered with 2 impressions, a color and blind emboss. The print is limited to an edition of 90 for $45 each.

Opening this Saturday, October 3rd at the Corey Helford Gallery will be a duo show featuring new works from Van Arno and Melissa Forman. This is Van Arno’s second solo show at the gallery and is entitled “A Change of Skin”, and marks a new direction for the artist “as Arno introduces multiple characters and a looser, more gestural format to his work. The exhibition will also feature 100 limited-edition silk screen show prints that will be available only at the gallery.” Then we have Melissa Forman’s second showing at the gallery as well with “Garden of Shadows”.
Both artists are extremely talented, and being able to see both of their shows in the same gallery is a must for those that are close.

Jonathan Viner has added a new print to his online shop. “Universal Remote” is 15.5″ x 20.5″ on a 17″ x 22″ piece of Hahnemuhle Photo Rag. The print is signed and numbered in an edition of 50. Each print is also covered with three coats of varnish “increasing its durability as well as the intensity and depth of colors.”

Opening this Thursday, October 1st at the Flatcolor Gallery in Seattle is “Light in the Darkness”; a solo exhibition of new works from the multi-talented artist known as EGO. For the past few months EGO has been creating work for a variety of shows and events, such as “LET THERE BE ART!” .. a project to give a collective voice to the Seattle artists whose talent is all too often unseen and unheard.” presented by City Hostel Seattle. I am very excited to see the new works he has created for this show, but in the meantime I was able to send over a handful of interview questions and even some teaser images.
