Today’s piece is from Jeremy Harker, otherwise known as Melocopter, very cool nickname as well.
The painting is done in oil and is on a 20×16″ panel.
This specific piece is called “Downslide” and is from his “Disorders” series. The whole series has about five paintings in it, and it’s very solid. I love the colors that he uses, and he has a great style of drawing figures.
The piece kind of hit me, not only because it talks about depression, but because I love winter and I seem to get depressed in the summer(backwards of me eh?). But this doesn’t change the power of the imagery, the look on the kids face is one I have seen many times. It’s very effective in letting you know whats going on.
Make sure you check out the rest of Jeremy’s work, and the Disorders series that is right there on the front page. Let him know the Creep sent you.

It’s been a while since I showed some photography, so here is a piece from Matthew Xavier.
This image is very striking, I love how it borders on being sinister and elegant at the same time.
It must be the eye area, plus that red plume of color shooting out of the figures mouth. I know that must be a shirt over the face there, but it really make this whole image so surreal, while the color scheme gives it this nice aged, nostalgic look to it.
A very smooth image, there is another like it, without the face covering. You can find that image, plus many other amazing photos in this artists gallery here:

Today’s piece is from David Macdowell. He made a banner for the Creep Machine a while back, and was one of the reader artists over on Juxtapoz. He is getting quite alot of attention lately, and will have a show coming soon to the Thinkspace Gallery in 2009.
I like how filled his paintings are, one of my art professors constantly says that each square inch of a painting should be interesting on it’s own, and I think David’s fits that bill. This piece in particular is very busy, but not to the point that it’s too much to handle. It’s comical, surreal and trips me right out. For being so busy it’s very balanced, and fits great. I love the look on the figures face. I’m really looking forward to more work from this artist. Make you sure you check out his homepage, and stay tune for some shows. Hopefully some prints as well.

I’m no big fan of Pete Doherty, but this piece is way to cool not to post. It captures his likeness very well, and adds some striking elements to the mix. This is a companion piece to this Kate Moss one here, although I like the Doherty one a little better, maybe its just the contrast of the image really.
The wavy neck, and distorted face set upon those huge shoulders look great. And I love that red nose, it really helps to make that face pop, with the sunken eyes and suture across the forehead that nose was needed.
It was really hard picking a piece from this artist to show, she (E. Hollinger) has such a great style. I ended up with this piece, mainly for the great caricature. Please make sure that you look at the rest of her gallery.

Been a bit since I have posted anything. It’s been a very busy week for me, so hopefully this piece will make it all better.
This piece is from an artist out of Los Angeles named Allison Torneros, its Acrylic, colored pencil, and paint marker. And here’s what she has to say about it:
“This is a self portrait of myself, dedicated to my late brother, Romeo, who was killed in a car accident at the age of 21 when I was 14. When I was young, around 9 years old, and my brother would come home from hanging out with his friends, curious me would ask “where were you?! Where did you go?” He would joke and say “Somewhere over the rainbow.” I really thought he was serious, and he even promised he would take me there sometime. As a kid I always imagined what that place ‘over the rainbow’ would look like, and I couldn’t wait until the day I could finally see it formyself. This painting is a representation of that place that resides in me..”
Very killer piece, it has so much to look at and I love the line work of the face juxtaposed with the background. make sure you look at the rest of her amazing gallery.

This piece is from an artist known as Neizen. I know very little about this artist, but I do know he likes the movie “Ricky-O the story of Ricky”, anyone who likes that movie is ok in my book.
This specific piece is made from Charcoal, ink and some photoshop. It looks amazing, I’ve always loved the look that lines of ink can add to either waterolor or charcoal pieces. I’m not quite sure where photoshop was used, maybe a little of the background texture. It flows seamlessly, it’s great when you can’t tell where photoshop has been used.
The expression looks great too, not like this person was posing but more like the artists caught the person in mid thought, or mid conversation. I love it when we can see a portrait of someone who doesn’t look like they were posing on purpose.
Check out this artists amazing gallary, so many great works there.

I had to put this as today’s piece. Not only because it’s simply amazing, but it’s of a gorilla, riding a boneshaker (hiwheel) bike. This piece is from Linda Herzog, and is oil 30×20.
The gorilla looks so amazing, and the background is perfect for the scene. The moth on the bottom right is quite a nice touch. I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be int he scene, or on the canvas, breaking the illusion that this is a painting much like some of the Italian Masters did with a bottle, or some other object to show that this is just a painting. Either way, it’s brilliant.
If you like this piece, make sure you head over to the artists site and look at all of her work. She is very talented, especially knowing she has no formal training.

It’s been a bit since I’ve been able to post another art of the day. There is just so much great art out there, and I need to find the time to find it all.
This piece is a painter, well I don’t know much about her really, not much written in her Profile. She goes by “hardcoremiike”. The main point is that this painting is quite amazing. It’s based off of a fictional character from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. The rendering on the face looks perfect, I have always felt that if your going to do realistic based face - as opposed to the more illustration like, cartoon like that is going on as well - I think people should really be able to paint the face as if it existed and took up space. This one cuts it very well, and the background is great, I love the colors.
Make sure you head over and check out the rest of the artist’s work:hardcoremiike

This piece is by Nykolai Aleksander, it’s oil on canvas.
The first thing that struck me, well was that I thought this was a photo, it wasn’t until I zoomed in and saw how it was painted. The lack of color is amazing, the whole painting has this glow to it, much like some of the “flemish” underpainting techniques i’ve seen. It gives the painting this feel like a nice beautiful, contrasty photograph. Very striking.
I think my favorite area has to be the hair, it looks as though it was just some quick strokes of the brush, but it’s done in a way that really gives the impression of slightly messy hair.

This piece is by Sonny Liew, and artist out of Singapore who has worked for Marvel and has recently had a show at La Luz De Jesus gallery. He is also working on a mini-series for DC comics.
He has a really cool painting style, I like how many of his works are pretty dark in color. I dig this piece for the kid’s expression, and robots. I love work by Ashley Wood and some of the Robot work Phil Hale has done. It’s also very cool when the artists is unique, and Sonny’s work is unique.
Hopefully he’ll be doing more and more shows. I would like to see his work in person one day.
