The first time I saw the paintings of Fuca Ueda I was hooked. The color palette, the surreal quality, and the random staining that each of the works have is amazing. I’m surprised her art isn’t in more shows, but there may be a reason for that I haven’t been let in on. I was notified however that she recently opened a solo show at the Aki Gallery in Taiwan alongside Kenichi Yokono who does this killer woodblock inspired works. The new show features 9 new paintings, 2 drawings, and an installation. The drawings are really a mixture of acrylic and graphite, however they have that delicate feel that drawings from such a talented hand can bring. Head on over to the galleries website to see the full show, and then make sure to visit Fuca’s homepage to keep up to date with news.
Joshua Harker x Crania Anatomica Filigre
If you haven’t heard of Kickstarter, here’s a basic rundown: artists, inventors, budding entrepreneurs, etc pitch their idea and offer some incentives for those that donate. Should the project reach the goal they get the funding, and it can even go over the goal and you still get the funding. One example of a great Kickstarter project is Joshua Harker’s “Crania Anatomica Filigre”. He has reached more than full funding for this project, but you can still donate and secure one of these amazing sculptures. Head on over and take a look at the project.
New work and updates from Chris Mars
Chris Mars has updated his website with some new artwork, as well as news of upcoming shows and events. After checking out the new work, the next thing you need to do is go to the film/documentary section. There are two videos here showing time-lapse videos of Chris painting. It gives a great insight into how he works; such as the idea that it looks as though he is painting whatever comes to his head with no under-painting or drawing to speak of. I love how effortless the painting process looks in these videos, when the work itself is so intense. It just goes to show how talented he really is. Int he coming months Chris will have some art in some museums, such as Halle St. Pierre Sept 12, 2011 – March 4, 2012, Mesa Contemporary Arts Sept 9 – Sept 30, 2011, and again at Mesa from Sept 9th to Dec 4th, and finally the Museum of Fine Arts in Florida for a show entitled “Cute & Creepy” curated by Carrie Anne Baade opening October 7th. Along with the museum show, you can see some of Chris’ work at galleries such as Cave Gallery, Varnish Fine Art, and Last Rites Gallery. This information is all found on Chris’ homepage.
New work by Charles Wish
It’s been quite a while since I checked in to see what some of the previous featured artists on the site have been up to, but once in a while I am notified via one of the many social networks. For instance, Charles Wish was the featured artists back in 2008 added some new paintings to his Facebook profile. The painting have a date of 2009, but its the most series of paintings of he has been working on. The three paintings, “The Denial of Winter, Dasa Dhumavati & The Deposing of Alisha Owen”, “The Nuisance of Spring, Dasa Tara & The Marketing of Don Vliet”, and “The Disregard of Fall, Dasa Bhairavi & The Conformance of Geronimo” are each 33″ x 48″ oil on canvas panel, and are intense. There is much detail and imagery in these works, that they really need to be seen in person. Charles has a bit of information on each of the works that you can see at his Facebook profile below.

New work by Aaron Nagel
Aaron Nagel is currently painting away for his upcoming solo show at Thinkspace, in which he will show 5 new paintings alongside Jennifer Nehrbass and Jeff Ramirez. I took a look at Aaron’s blog to see if there were any sneak peeks of some of the paintings that he will show, and I was very happy to see there was. A few in-process shots as well as a finished painting entitled “Drift”, oil on canvas 48″ x 32″. Besides the pearls, this almost looks as though the model was captured directly after a fluid movement into a new position directly after the painting “Shrapnel”. In this new painting Aaron has started to play with the color values in the flesh tones. I’m very excited about these new works, the in-process shots look amazing as well. Head on over to Aaron’s blog to see the works, and keep up to date with news and events.
Travis Louie on Sketch Theatre
Sketch Theatre has just added a new video to the site, this one is from Travis Louie. This is the artists 6th video on the site, and also comes out right after his birthday. When you watch the video you will notice the song is a birthday tune. The final sketch is entitled “Stan the Green Man”, and really shows the skills and elegance Travis has with graphite. Head on over and take a look.
“Where Time Beckons the Wicked” by Dan May
Dan May has just released a new commission painting he was working on, that I had to share here. Dan’s work has always been mystical, colorful, and always growing forward with each new painting becoming more intense. This new painting steps this up a notch in a big way. Coming in at 60″ x 30″, “Where Time Beckons the Wicked” is a window into Dan’s world that gives a clearer view than ever before. The colors have that amazing muted feel his most recent works have, and not only does this painting contain a human figure, but some animals, and some of the unique creatures Dan is so well known for. It’s a stunning image to view on a monitor, I can only imagine how impressive it is in person. I know this painting took ages to create, but I do hope we see some more large scale works such as this from Dan in the future. Click the image for a larger version.
“Mr Breakfast” by Chris B Murray
Chris B Murray has just released a new painting that will be featured in another tribute show hosted at Gallery 1988. The show is dedicated to Pee Wee Herman, and will feature art by a huge list of artists. Chris tackled the “Mr Breakfast” character seen in the first scene in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, and managed to make an amazing image any Pee Wee fan would love that’s also a little creepy at the same time. It has to be those bacon lips. For all those interested in the process of artists, Chris added some process photos over at his blog. I would love to see a video of Chris painting, much like Eric Fortune has done in the past (here).
Check out the process shots here: Chris B Murray Blog

Tim Biskup launches new web site
Tim Biskup has recently redesigned his homepage, and has made it easier for fans to check out his work, keep up to date with news and so on. The gallery is now done in a way where you can see all the work on one page dating all the way back to 2000, and see some art you might have never seen before such as this collaboration between Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, and Mark Ryden entitled “Snowy Black Luck”. Head on over and take a look at the new website.
New works by Cam Rackam
Currently at the Congregation Gallery is a group show entitled “Necropolis” (featured), that features three new paintings by Cam Rackam. The images on the gallery page were a little too pixelated, or maybe they were not taking with enough light, but either way Cam added some nice clean photos of these three paintings to his Facebook page. Each of the paintings is made with oil on masonite, and the cohesive color scheme and decorative frames really makes this a perfect set. It;s a shame to think that these three paintings would be split up, as they look so good together.
