New work by Erik Jones

Erik Jones (featured), an artist I have not shown on the site in quite a long time, has come out with a bunch of new work. He also recently had a solo show, “Pop Op” at Redletter 1 this past June 3rd. The work has yet to show up online in entirety, however he has released some images on his various profiles. Erik’s traditional works, no less exciting than anything digital he creates, is made of a myriad of materials such as watercolors, colored pencils, water based oils, nu-pastels, and acrylics on Rives BFK paper. If there was ever a paper that could be called exquisite it’s Rives BFK. James Jean uses it a lot, and Erik Jones used it for these new works that, as you can see, are exquisite in themselves. I love the blend of figurative imagery, abstract shapes, and textures that each piece holds. Makes sure to keep an eye on his website, Deviantart Profile and blog for more work and updates. Here is what Erik said about this new series of works:

This new “thing” that I’m doing is really just about experimenting.
Though the figures tend to be “attractive”, the new direction places less emphasis on sexuality. I simply start out with a loose line drawing of a figure and experiment with building up and breaking down color and shapes in and around said figure. It is not only a salubrious experimentation with the figure but also an exploration of mediums. This process is more sporadic and embraces imperfection, rather then focusing mainly on rendering “perfect” realistic skin.
…It’s also a lot of fun.

“A Perfect Vacuum” by Jeremy Geddes

Jeremy Geddes has just added a new painting to his blog. Entitled “A Perfect Vaccum”, this painting is roughly 20″ x 35″ oils on board. The painting is part of a loosely connected series, possibly to the previously released painting “The Cafe“? The title is inspired by a book of short stories/essays by Stanislaw Lem, which is one of the books in the painting. There is also a chance this new painting will make its way into a print. Head on over to Jeremy’s blog for some closer shots that even show some brushwork.

New work by Heather Horton

It’s been far too long since I have shown new work by the amazing Heather Horton. Looking at her site she has been traveling the world and has recently updated her site with a few new paintings. She has a great style, that while the figures and cloth are rendered perfectly, the brush marks are still pretty thick. It gives for a very interesting effect.

Kenichi Hoshine Japan Disaster Relief Sale

Kenichi Hoshine has listed a couple of original works up for auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to Red Cross in order to aid Japan during this growing disaster. Every hour it seems like the news just keeps getting worse and worse. I am happy to see artists like Kenichi donate art in order to help, and while posts on social networking sites with people sharing art and videos are great for keeping moral up, the best thing you can do is donate. I hope to see other artists do the same.

New work by Steve Kim

Steve Kim was one of the featured artists here on the site back when the Creep Machine was only a few months old (here). I am very happy to see that he is still going strong, and has some new work on his site. He also recently had work in a two man show at the ADC Contemporary Art Gallery in Los Angeles, CA on March 5th, and will be in the Incognito show at the Santa Monica Museum on April 30th. If you head over to his site to see the new work, make sure you check out his blog and social network profiles to keep up with news.

Steven Daily launches new website

Steven Daily lost his original website a while back, the domain name now leads to some spam website. He now has a new domain name, and a shiny new website to go along with it. I can’t say that I even remember what Steven’s old website looked like, but this new one is very easy to navigate, and if you look in the shop section you will even see that he has some new limited edition prints coming soon. The best part is all of the updated artwork that many have not been able to see in one place for the past two years. Below is the painting that Steven will have on view at Craola’s “INLE” group show.

New work by Gene Guynn

It’s been far too long since I have posted anything from Gene Guynn, but he recently released a new painting so I had to share it. “Phosphors” is a new oil painting 24″ x 36″, that Gene will have on view at the Hibbleton Gallery this March 4th. The group show is entitled “F* IT!” and will also feature work by Jessica Ward, Celene, Apricot Mantle, and many more. I love the colors that Gene used in this new painting, and it looks as though he has changed up his “scar” elements a bit. Now the scars commonly found on the shoulders of his figures are spewing off a mix of colored smoke that really gives this piece a dynamic look.

New work by Stella Im Hultberg

After showing some new in a couple of group exhibitions during the beginning of this new year, Stella Im Hultberg is preparing for a solo show that will take place at the London Miles Gallery. The show will be called “Fragmented” and will show concurrently with Scott Belcastro’s new show “I Dare the Sky”. This is Stella’s first larger body of works in over a year, but judging from the preview images the wait is going to be worth it. Take a look at the preview images, and then mark your calendars for the reception on March 11th.
