December 14, 2007

This Friday some great shows are opening.

Lesley Reppeteaux has a solo show called “MOONSTRUCK with WANDERLUST”, at the same time Gris Grimly will have his solo show “A Prairie Nightmare” at the MModern Gallery

“The Big Tiny” opens at the Red Ink Studios in San Francisco. A group show that focuses on “miniaturization to extreme amplification”. 25 artists will be a part of this very cool sounding show.

At the White Walls Gallery in SF as well, “All Star Hustlaz” opens, featuring work by: AJ Fosik, Ben Horton, Katy Horan, Dalek, Damon Soule, Henry Lewis, Sylvia Ji and many others. This is one I’ll make sure to check out.

Elizabeth McGrath has her solo show “The Incurable Disorder” at Billy Shire Fine Arts in Culver City, CA.

And the one I wish I could see, “Three Kings” at the Light Gallery in Costa Mesa. The three artists shown will be David Lozeau, Ken Ruzic and Bigtoe. All three have great styles.

Today’s piece is from French artist Lisa Falzon, otherwise known as Meluseena. She works both digitally, as well a traditionally. I think her style transfers over quite well.

I really dig the look of the piece, the face being so stylized. It really is a unique looking face. I love portrait work, and when the artist can make the face look like something we have never seen before, it’s even better.

Check out the rest of Lisa’s work here:

aotd: “Children Should Grow on Trees”

December 8, 2007

Children_Should_Grow_On_Trees_by_tubam.jpgEvery once in a while I find an amazing artist, that just seems to have disappeared. No way that I can contact them. It’s especially hard when they use a nickname.

So todays piece is from Matt, or Tabum, whichever one it is. The artwork is amazing. The picture clearly shows the brushwork going on the painting, I really dig the whole color scheme. The expressions on those elephants are great.

Matt’s whole gallery is quite amazing, it’s too bad I have no where else to direct you. So if you want to see more, head over to his profile. If anyone knows where Matt is, let me know.

pagewhatdowe.jpgThere are some really great art shows opening up this weekend, much like last weekend.

Brandi Milne has a solo show called “Sugar & Silence” opening at the Corey Helford Gallery. If you would like to see a preview of this show, head here

A new gallery called Pandoras Trunk opens up, and they will have an opening party to celebrate. Cant wait to see what comes from this gallery in the future.

The “Big Money” art auction, and Art Army show opens up at the Copronason Gallery. The Art Army show will have some new sculptures, such as Luke Chueh, Craola, Chet Zar, Travis Louie, Amy Sol, Audrey Kawasaki & Joe Ledbetter. They look great too. The “Big Money” Auction, there are some really killer pieces for sale from so many artists. Best to just check the show out. Michael Page is there too, I love his work (shown).

Tim Burton is having a show featuring work from Nightmare Before Christmas and the Corpse Bride. It’s held at the Animazing Gallery in New York.

The big one is the “Sub 1k” show at Distinction Art. All of the work that will be shown there is under $1000. There are some really great artists in the show, Isaac Pierro, Josh Taylor, Josh Clay, Daniel Fleres,Lesley Repspeteaux, Scott Saw, Jason Rudolph Pena, Daniel Fleres and many others. It’s really crazy to see art being sold for like $990. Check the show out, it is now online.

Some great shows online

November 20, 2007

I’m not sure what is up with this month, but there are some very cool shows going on. Many of them are online for your viewing pleasure.

dust_stella.jpgThe Lineage Gallery has a group show called “Together, Alone” featuring works from Amy Sol & Stella Im Hultberg. The new works from Stella blow me away. I think the thing that I love the best about her work is that she keeps on evolving, unlike many others that get comfortable doing similar works over and over. She lets her work grow and become more intense. These new pieces are so dynamic and rich.

We have the solo show of Mari Inukai, “Kuro-To-Shiro”. Some really great pieces there, I love her style.

invite_nicoletta.jpgDennis Brown aka Bagger43 has his solo show “Pthalo & Umber” at the ThinkSpace Gallery online as well. There are still many pieces available, I’m surprised. If I could I would snag up either ” Ci’Ci ” or ” El’Ci “. Great price, and I love how brushy they are.

Finally a new artist I have been introduced to, Nicoletta Ceccoli has a solo show at Magic Pony called “Inflorescence”. I’ve very glad she contacted me to let me know about the show, her work is amazing. I love finding new artists that can really control acrylic and come up with some killer work, she handles acrylic much like Keith Weesner does. Head on over to her show and check the work out.

Recharged

November 19, 2007

Well, the weekend helped to recharge me and let me take some to time to see what I’m doing, and going to do with the website.
I’ll try to keep going with it as long as I can. It’s just quite frustrating sometimes when the hits on the site don’t jump up very much. I’ve made sure the site is free from ads, and hopefully just a great place to check out. So please add a link here and there, and any artists that I show please do the same.

Anyway, my buddies wedding this weekend was great. As the groomsman and groom walked up to the stage, the 4 piece quartet was playing the Legend of Zelda theme song. Nerdy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. It was also an open bar, so I’ll have to wait for pics to see what I ended up doing that evening.

Tomorrows going to be a new prints article for the SFWeekly site. It should be up bright and early. There are so any amazing prints coming out, so i’ll showcase some on the SFWeekly site, and of course some here.

The Creep needs your help

November 16, 2007

I’ll be taking the weekend off, a wedding and some time to work on my own art.

In the meantime I just wanted to ask, if anyone can help spread the word about the Creep Machine. I’ve tried to make sure that this site is a place to learn about new artists, find some cool prints, and do it all without ads. Not even ads related to art. Many of the art blogs I see on the net still have ads. I plan to never use them, but I need your help.

The Creep has hopefully exposed some new art/artists to people, as well as connect some artists to some galleries, but I need some help when it comes to letting people know about the site. All it takes is a link. That’s the beauty of the web, being able to connect to all sorts of people, one person at a time. This can’t happen however, if no one helps to keep the link going.

So, if you haven’t done so, please think about adding a link to your, homepage, blog, myspace profile, etc. I also have banners here that you can use. And if you want to make a banner, send it to me and I’ll add it to the list with your credits.

I’m looking forward to keeping this site online as long as possible, but it will be quite difficult if it can’t grow and draw new readers and artists.

thanks, have a great weekend

New SFWeekly article, and updates

October 17, 2007

I have a new SFWeekly print article up, you can find it by going to the SFWeekly links on the right there.

I also fixed the Creep Machine, so that it looks the same in Internet Explorer as it does in Firefox. I had no idea it looked so bad, I don’t use IE. Sorry to all my IE readers, I hope this makes the experience more enjoyable.

Sketch Theatre is online

October 15, 2007

I saw this site off of youtube a while back, but it wasn’t fully online yet, it is now.

Skecth Theatre is a site filled with videos of artists, sketching really. It’s a great way to see your favorite artists at work, and see how they do all the things you have been wondering.

So far there is a pretty good amount of artists: Michael Hussar, Chet Zar, Alvin Lee, Black Frog, Corey Miller (L.A.InK), Daphne Yap, Dave Hill, David Krentz & Mari Inukai and many more to come.

The videos are amazing, head on over and take a look.
