Here is the list of shows opening up this weekend, looks like it’s going to be one of the busy ones.

Friday:
Double Punch will open “The Right Place”, a group show featuring new works by Kelly Tunstall, Scott Barry, Ryan Bubnis & Alexei Vella.

Rotofugi will host “Flower Parade”, a duo show featuring new works by Jeremiah Ketner and Julie West

Thinkspace Gallery will be opening “Run Rabbit, Run” the latest solo show of Brandi Milne. Also in the project room will be “trouble, clearly” by Cherri Wood and “BLOOD & STEEL” by Alex Garcia. I love Brandi’s new work.

Roq La Rue will be debuting two new shows, “Hiding Out” by Nathan Ota and “The Casual Calamity” by Anthony Pontius.

Saturday:
Gallery Nucleus opens up Grafuck 4 art exhibit and book release.

Black Maria Gallery will be opening “Spring Bazaar”, featuring new works by Juri Ueda, Jamie Fales, Julie Nishioka, Jenna Colby & Tsai-fi. One the project wall will be new works by Saratoga Sake.

Distinction Art will open “Tractus Secretum”, the latest solo exhibition of Aaron Jasinski.

Lebasse Projects will open “Future Perfect” from Tessar Lo & “Lost In Light” from Eric Fortune. The new works from Eric are amazing.

Corey Helford Gallery is opening “Haute Epoch”, the latest solo show of Sylvia Ji. Two limited edition prints will be available at the show.

White Walls right next door will have “Waiting For Ararat”, with new works from Caleb Neelon and Mike Shine. Then right upstairs at the Gallery Three, will be “Winner Warz” Solo Exhibit and Installation by Adam Flores

The latest cult themed group show, “Idiot Box” opens at the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles tonight. This new show is all about the television, so you will see work about shows that we grew up with as well as shows that are melting our brains right now.

The show looks petty good, there seems to be a large amount of artists that focused on ALF and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was happy to see some shows such as “Twilight Zone” as done by Ken Garduno, Scott Campbell did a great mashup of “Greatest American Hero” and the “A-Team”. Marcus Shaefer (shown) did one of the creepiest “Ren & Stimpy” themed works I have seen so far.

Take a look at some of my favorites, and then head on over to check out the whole show. There is a quite a bit of prints available from the works, and I know that during he reception Gelaskins will be giving away skins of Alex Pardee’s painting as well as all sorts of goodies.

Idiot Box @ Gallery 198 LA

The Beastie Boys theme art show “Under the Influence” opens at the Gallery 1988 in LA tonight. The show features a whole mess of artists creating art inspired by the band. The show is now online to view, or order art if you wish. Along with original art there is also a good amount of limited edition prints made for the show.

There are some really great artists in the show such as: Ken Garduno, Tom Haubrick, Matt Dangler, Aaron Jasinksi, Andrew Hem, Michael Page, Alex Pardee and the three shown below, Dave Macdowell, Casey Weldon and Chris Murray. Dave’s painting is of course amazing as usual, the colors and textures in Chris’s and Casey’s Biz Markie with the Ted Nugent shirt and energy beam shooting mouth is too much.

The reception for the Project 57 show, a benefit for Charles Leslie Walker will be on August 9th from 6-11pm. All of the works in the show are 5″ x 7″, and the artists can donate a portion or all of the proceeds to the LBD Association.

The auction is now underway and will end the night of the reception. There are some really killer works in the show, some of which might even go for a pretty cheap price. Some of the artists in the show are Audrey Kawasaki, Michael Page, Chris Ryniak, Ekundayo, Ahren Hertel, Michael Brown, Richard Salcido and many others.

The big one in San Francisco this weekend is the huge group show ‘Everyone in Together” at the Gallery 1988 SF location. The show features work by Aaron Jasinski, Cherri Wood, Erik Abel, Jonathan Bergeron, Krista Huot, Mike Shine, Noferin, Allison Torneros, Chrystal Chan, Andy Kehoe, Andrew Bell, Chris Murray, Nate Frizzell, Megan Kimber, El Maz, Chet Zar, Yoskay Yamamoto as well as two artists previously shown on the Creep Machine: Skaffa and Anne-Julie Aubrey. This Saturday at the M Modern Gallery is “Tic Toc Apocalypse”, the solo show of Amanda Vissell.

At the Joshua Liner Gallery is two solo shows, “Seasons of Change” by Jeremy Fish and “Side Effects” by Josh Keyes. Both of the shows are online to view, and the artwork looks amazing. I especially like the frames that Jeremy used on some of his works. Check it out. Joshua Liner Gallery

Also this Saturday from Noon to midnight is “Ripple: Art Affecting Oceans”, Erik Abel joins with Art Whino and DC Surfrider for this fundraiser. At 6 will be the reception for a solo show by Erik Abel as well as featuring the work of 4 new artists: Joshua Krause, Spencer Reynolds, Dustin Oritz & Scott Szegeski. There are some really killer shows opening this weekend, wish I could see them all.

“Happily Ever After 2″ is a group show curated by Monica Choy. It opens on Friday at the Suite 100 Gallery in Seattle. The show looks great, wish I could see it in person. She does have some preview pics up that you can look at Here.

“MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS” is a duo show featuring art by Kathie Olivas & Brandt Peters. It opens this Friday night at the Thinkspace Gallery. You can see the show online right now: Olivas & Peters at Thinkspace.

“Zombies Attack Again!” opens this Saturday at the M.F. Gallery in New York. The show features work by Frank Russo, James Wrona, Gary Pullin (art director of Rue-Morgue Magazine) and many others. There will also be live music. Check it out here: Zombies Attack Group show

Art Whino is having the “Yuri’s Night ’08 – World Space Party”. There will be perfomances, music and art by Scott G Brooks, Papermonster, Arabella Proffer, Brandi Read & I believe David Macdowell has a piece in the show as well. The Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will have it’s Inaugural Group show open on Saturday the 12th. Liner is the co-founder of the Lineage Gallery, and this is his new gallery. You can see work by Shawn Barber, Ron English, Jeremy Fish, Blaine Fontana, Naoto Hattori, Zach Johnsen, Kris Kuksi, Travis Louie, Greg Simkins, Ben Tour and many others. I’m super excited about “Running on Empty”, Paul Chatem’s first solo show at the Shooting Gallery in SF. The show is online for you to gawk at, and maybe purchase. I love his work, and will be seeing this one in person this week for sure. Check out the show here: Paul Chatem Solo Show
