Art of the Day: “Pele” by Michael Shapcott

Michael Shapcott has been busy in the past few weeks, but he did find some time to make a new painting. “Pele” os 12″ x 16″ graphite and oil on canvas. If you saw the piece that he had in the “This is the End” show entitled “Seaweed”, you might see some of the same feel that he had in that painting but he has taken it to a new level. The colors in this new one, the expression and the eyes are so dynamic. I can only imagine how amazing this painting looks like in person. I really hope he keeps going to make a series of works like this.

This piece is now sold, but check out the rest of Michael’s work:

Art of the Day: “Sic Transit Gloria Mundi” by EGO

Seattle based artist EGO was one of the featured artists here on the Creep Machine, and also had painting on show for the “Attack of the B Movie Show” and the current “This is the End” show. Not only is he an amazing tattoo artist, but also a skilled painter with a very unique style and imagination. I am always happy to see new work from him, and very privileged to have his art in any show that I am able to curate.

The piece shown here is the painting that EGO submitted to the “This is the End” group show. It looks so amazing in person, I wish the pictures were good enough to show how dynamic it really is. Surprisingly the piece is still available, but I have a feeling that his work will get harder to come by with every passing show.

Artist of the Day: Ken Garduno

Todays artist of the day is another Creep Machine favorite, Ken Garduno. Not only is his work always exciting to see, but it’s also quite staggering at how many unique ideas he is able to get.

Ken currently has a solo show going on at the Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles. The show is entitled “Channels” and if filled with some excellent paintings. A good majority of them have color splashed in, which looks striking when set against the monochromatic washes that he does. The show almost sold out, but there is still a few left. Ken also contributed a painting in the “This is the End” group show (1st below). The painting in the show is 12 3/4″ x 16 3/4″, acrylic wash and ink. It’s still available and all framed up.

Photos: This is the End @ The Alternative Cafe

The reception is now over and I have finally finished editing and pruning all the pics that were taken at the show. The gallery had this amazing banner of the show flyer with all the names of the artists on it posted on the front of the building. The Alternative Cafe is a nice sized gallery with great lighting, and all of the works of the show fit in with no worries. Seeing all the art in person was great, pics on the net are ok but there are so many subtleties that are lost. I found myself wanting to buy pretty much everything there.

The reception was quite fun, music, free drinks and a non-stop supply of people to talk to. Maya and Scott from the gallery are very nice, you can tell they love what they do. A good amount of the artists were also able to make it to the show such as Paul Chatem, Michael Ryan, Gene Guynn, Eliza Guager and R.M. Hanson. It was good to be able to not only talk about their work, but just art and random topics in general.

I had a blast at the show, and hope they everyone else that come out did as well. A few pieces are already sold, and I have a feeling that more will go soon. There really is some amazing work in this show. Check out the art and prices over at the Alternative Cafe Store

Art of the day: “Untitled” by Michael Shapcott

Michael is one of the artists that will be in the upcoming show the Creep Machine is curating, “This is the End” at the Alternative Cafe in Monterey, CA. The show opens on March 6th, but I wanted to feature some art from the artists that will be in the show over the next couple of weeks.

This is a new one from Michael, it’s very big at 48″ x 72″ and is acrylic, graphite and oil. I love the colors that he has been using in his latest works, and the skill in his drawings. That ram looks perfect. The piece is for sale as well, and I believe you can just get in touch with Michael via myspace.
