Preview: “Hi-Fructose Collected 2″ Box Set

Hi Fructose have just released the news about the second installment in the “Hi Fructose Collected” box sets. This 300+page hardcover book will feature the best work from issues 5-8. There is a special intro by Long Gone John, interviews and more. The deluxe version of the set will include “A Special 2’x2’ Fold-Out Poster by Jason Freeny, Specially Designed Sticker Pages from Travis Lampe, Gary Baseman, & Ferris Plock. 5 Special Edition Prints from: Travis Louie, Audrey Kawasaki, Edwin Ushiro, Mars-1 and Yoko d’Holbachie packaged in a beautiful print portfolio with vellum artist and title pages between each print.” All this will be placed into a ribbon tied hard case.
The set will be available on June 1st, so don’t wait the last one sold out pretty fast.

“Anchor” Print by Amy Sol

Amy Sol will be releasing a new print today, May 3rd at 2pm PST. Entitled “Anchor”, this new print is 9.5″ x 13″ on a sheet of 11.5″ x 15″ hahnemühle paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 for $80. This is an amazing looking print, and I imagine it will not last long.

Hi Fructose 5th Anniversary Exhibition @ Copro Gallery

This past March 13th, the Copro Galley opened the 5th Anniversary Exhibition for Hi Fructose. Along with this amazing group show, Eric Fortune and Michael Page also had solo shows up as well. The group show featured some inspiring work by KMNDZ, Scott Hove, Martin Wittfooth, Lori Earley, Eric Fortune, Craola, Chet Zar, Amy Sol, Kris Kuksi, Jonathan Viner, Chris Mars and many more. The Eric Fortune works are not up on the site as of yet, but the Michael Page solo show is. His latest works have been more abstract, and less figurative than earlier pieces. These paintings still hold the same narrative feel that his older works had, and are even more mysterious than ever. The colors are breathtaking, and I like the idea that he decided to change his work up a bit. Take a look at the preview images from the shows, and then head on over and see all of the works.

“Curiouser and Curiouser: Inspired by Alice in Wonderland” @ Gallery Nucleus

This past weekend, February 27th at the Gallery Nucleus, the group show “Curiouser and Curiouser: Inspired by Alice in Wonderland” opened up. The show has never before seen concept art for the upcoming movie, maquettes for the new movie were also on display (courtesy of Gentle Giant Studios), and 40+ artists showcasing work inspired by this classic story. A few the artists in the show include: Alberto Cerriteño, Allison Reimold, Amy Sol, David Ho, Kukula, Marguerite Sauvage, Naoto Hattori, Jason Seiler, Bobby Chiu, William Stout and more.

Preview: “A Cry For Help” Benefit Show @Thinkspace Gallery

Thinkspace Gallery will open “A Cry For Help” benefit show this coming Friday, January 8th. The show is presented by Born Free USA, whom along with the Animal Protection Institute helped Thinkspace with the “Fight For Flight” exhibition back in 2008. The theme for this years show is animals, endangered as well as thriving species, and supporting the ethical treatment of animals and making sure current and future generations understand about habitat loss and how important animals are for all of us.

20% of the proceeds of the sales will go to Born Free and A.P.I, as well as 100% of the proceeds from the limited editions that will be released the night of the reception. A great cause with some amazing art. What a perfect way to start out 2010. The list of participating artists is nothing short of spectacular. Paintings from such artists as Allison Sommers, Amy Sol, Andrew Hem, Andy Kehoe, Buff Monster, Catherine Brooks (Featured), Charlie Immer, Chet Zar (Interviewed, 2), Dan May, David MacDowell, Fred Harper, Heiko Müller, Jennybird Alcantara, Joao Ruas, Kelly Vivanco (Interviewed), Luke Kopycinski (Featured), Martin Wittfooth, Nimit Malavia, Rory Kurtz, Sarah Joncas (Interviewed), Scott G. Brooks, Tran Nguyen, Travis Louie, Van Arno and many more will be on view. If you are in the area there is no reason to miss this show, there is just too much good work to pass up seeing it all in person. “The Multi-Plane” group show @ Corey Helford Gallery

This past Saturday, December 12th at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City the “Multi-Plane” group show opened up. For the past few weeks I have been seeing some previews of some of the pieces in the show, one of the great reasons to check out artists blogs now and again. The idea of the show is that “Each of these paintings is an original work created on two layers of glass and a masonite panel background, emulating the multi-plane process developed by animators in the 1930’s to create depth in animated features. Each surface is separated by 3/8 of an inch and the entire painting is housed in a custom-made frame.”

Lunch Bunch Auction now live

Winters, Morgan Slade & Liz McGrath, Chet Zar, Scott Musgrove and many more. Ana Bagayan, one half of the Lunch Bunch has added a print of her painting “Carolina” (shown). This 18″ x 24″ is only one of three artists proofs of this image.

Shows this weekend: Super School, Sweet Surrender & This is the End

Here is the rundown of the shows that will be opening this weekend.

Friday:
The Alternative Cafe is hosting “This is the End”. Curated by the Creep Machine and featuring work by 25 artists from all over the world. It’s going to be a truly exciting show. Check the work out, it is now online to view. If you can make it the reception is from 7-9pm.

Gallery 1988 SF will open “Sweet Surrender”, a group show featuring work by Krista Huot, Camilla d’Errico, Jennifer Tong and Allison Torneros. The show will be online at noon this Friday.

Definition Gallery has “Melancholy”, featuring new works by Bethany Marchman, Nicholas Harper and Brandon Maldonado

Joshua Liner Gallery has a solo exhibition from Tomokazu Matsuyama entitled “Glancing at the Twin Peak”. The work is online and looks great.

La Luz de Jesus opens “Everything But The Kitschen Sync” 12h annual group show. Some of the artists in this show are: Dave MacDowell, Apricot Mantle, Bob Dob, Nathan Ota, Chris Peters, Sean Stepanoff, Heather Watts, Paul Torres and many more.


Saturday:
Copro Gallery has two shows opening: “Natural Beauties”, Lola’s solo show and “SuperSchool” featuring work by Scott Musgrove, Travis Louie, Gary Baseman, Sas Christian, Chet Zar, Heiko Mueller, Dan May, Martin Wittfooth, Chris Ryniak, Nathan Spoor, Kris Lewis, Carrie Ann Baade, Michael Page, Ana Bagayan, Kevin Peterson, Naoto Hattori, Amy Sol, Francesco LoCastro, Reinier Gamboa, Mia, Brian Viveros, Dan Quintana , Tin and more. Much of the work is online to view, both shows are very strong.

Gallery Nucleus is opening “Home Slice”, a new solo show of Scott Campbell. He has such an amazing style, I can’t wait to see the new works, all of which should be up this weekend.

Shows this weekend: Stella Im Hultberg, Amy Crehore & Movers and Shakers

Here comes another weekend filled with killer show. Wish I could see them all.

Friday:
Roq La Rue Gallery: Stella Im Hultberg and Andrew Hem have all new works on display. The reception starts at 7pm. The show is online to view and all of the works look amazing, this is one exciting show.

Thinkspace Gallery: Amy Crehore’s “DREAMGIRLS & UKES”, and Anthony Clarkson’s “THE SILENT TREATMENT” opens at 7pm until 11pm.

Outre Gallery: in Australia has an exhibition featuring prints and one new original from Audrey Kawasaki.

“Forgotten Saints” presented by Art Core opens up this Friday as well. The show features new work by Cate Rangel, Arabella Proffer, Cam Rackam, Vince Locke, Gris Grimly and many other. no website to view work, but if you around you can see the show at the Congregation of the Forgotten Saints 7569 Melrose Ave. Los Angeles Ca. 90046.

Saturday:
Distinction Gallery: “Plastic Prophets of Vinyl Redemption” featuring new works by John Purlia. There will also be limited edition custom flipbooks at the reception.

POVevolving Gallery: “Movers and Shakers” is a group show featuring work by Michael Page, Dylan Sisson, Ben Kehoe, Chet Zar, Brandi Milne, Chris Peters, Ana Bagayan, Chris Ryniak, Cave Cooper, Amy Sol, Ekundayo, Eric Fortune, Mari Inukai, Kelly Vivanco, Jeff Soto, Mia, Naoto Hattori, Scott Radke and many more. This is quite an amazing show. There is also a box set of prints, each set features prints that are 8.5″ x11″ or smaller, limited to 50.

Bunny Gunner Gallery: has the group show “All you can Eat” opening. The show features work by KMDZ, Germs, Dean McDowell and many more.

Billy Shire Fine Arts: Has two solo shows opening, new works by Bob Dob and Francisco Rodriguez Maruca. The shows are online now to view.
