Preview: Cave Gallery Three Year Anniversary Exhibition

This coming Friday, May 13th, the Cave Gallery in Venice, CA will be celebrating their three year anniversary with a group exhibition. This new show will feature work by Anthony Ausgang, Anthony Clarkson, Chet Zar, Chrystal Chan, Craww, Jason Hernandez, Joka, Kevin Peterson, Pat Perry, Megz Majewski, Paul Chatem, SIT, Macsorro, Tom Haubrick, Van Saro, Zach Johnsen, Zoso, and many more. During the reception there will be music and live painting by John Park.

Preview: “INLE” group show curated by Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins @ Gallery 1988

Opening March 11th at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is a group show curated by artist Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins. The show entitled “INLE”, will feature over 100 artists drawing inspiration from Richard Adams’ award winning book, WaterShip Down, and more specifically the Black Rabbit of Inlé. Preview: Playboy Redux II @ Copro Nason

Opening this Saturday, December 18th at Copro Nason is the second showing of the Playboy Redux Group Exhibition. The first showing was at Rotofugi Gallery, and from the looks of it there is a few new artists added to the show this time around. This second showing will feature work by Bob Doucette, Glenn Barr, Isabel Samaras, Frank Kozik, Tara McPherson, Brian Viveros, Scott Anderson, TIN, Vincent Cacciotti, Luke Chueh, Dan Quintana, Keith Weesner, William Wray, Gary Baseman, Leslie Ditto, Lisa Petrucci, Lang Leav, Brian Ewing, Andrew Schoultz, Shaunna Peterson, Jennybird Alcantra, Ken Keirns, Ain Cocke, Jeremiah Ketner, Travis Lampe, Anthony Ausgang, R. Black, Jeremy Tinder, Erik Alos, Bonni Reid, Mark Bodnar, Nouar, Shag, and more. I like Bob Doucette’s painting, with inspiration taken from “Venus Anadyomène” by Ingres. Shows this Weekend: Femke Hiemstra, Kieth Weesner & Overdose by Hi-Fructose

Here is the rundown of the shows that will be opening up this weekend.

Friday:
Grass Hut Corp will be opening “The Squirrels Made Me Do It”, a group show featuring work by Anna Chambers, Joe Ledbetter, Michelle Valigura & Amanda Visell.

T&P Fine Arts is opening the group show “The Kids Are Alright”. This show is curated by Beau Basse and will feature work by Nimit Malavia, Yuta Onoda, Danni Shinya Luo, Jeremy Lynch, Eric Davison and many more.

Ad Hoc Art will be hosting new works from Ekundayo and Joshua Clay in the main room, and TheDirtyFabulous in the project room.

Saturday:
Rivet Art will be showing new works from Annie Owens ans Laurie Lipton.

Gallery 1988 SF will open a dual show of Dan McCarthy and Daniel Danger. There will be some prints released at the reception.

Copro Gallery will have three killer shows opening up. First Hi-Fructose brings us “Overdose” with work from Alex Pardee, Andrew Hem, Bob Dob, Anthony Ausgang, Brandi Milne, Brandt Peters, Brendan Danielsson, Chris Owens, Chris Peters, Chet Zar, Chris Berens, Craola, Dan May, Dan Quintana, Ekundayo, Erik Fortune, Femke Hiemstra, Glenn Barr, Gris Grimly, Jason D’Aquino, Joe Vaux, Josh Keyes, Kathie Olivas, KMNDZ, Kris Kuksi, Kukula, Lola, Luke Chueh, Mars-1, Martin Wittfooth, McBess, Mia, Michael Page, Naoto Hattori, Nathan Spoor, Robert Hardgrave, Scott Musgrove, Shag, Skot Olsen, Thomas Han, Tin, Tom Haubrick, Travis Louie, Viktor Safonkin, Vince Cacciotti, Yoskay Yamamoto, Yosuke Ueno, Yoko D’holbachie and more.

How is that for a group show?

New Brow Documentary screening in Monterey

This Friday at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey, will be a screening of the “New Brow: Contemporary Art Underground” Documentary. There will be a Q&A session with the filmmakers Tanem Davidson and Scott Grover. In the lobby of the theatre will be an art show presented by The Shooting Gallery and The Alternative Cafe. Van Arno, Anthony Ausgang, Shawn Barber, Tim Biskup, Gary Baseman, Paul Chatem, Ron English, Anne Faith Nicholls and many more. The film starts at 9pm and will cost $10.

If you live close enough to go to this, it would be a great way to spend a Friday. A film about this amazing art scene, and even some art to check out. And while your in the area, make sure to stop by the Alternative Cafe and check out the “This is the End” show that is still up until April 13th.

Gristle Magazine Issue #5

If you were able to go to the Alternative Press Expo, you might have seen this handmade art zine available there. If you missed it, or forgot to pick one up like I did, it is now available online.

This issue is the Death Issue, it has a 5 color silkscreen cover, 68 pages of art and is signed and numbered in an edition of 250. All for under $20. Some of the artists that you will see in this zine are: Anthony Ausgang, Drew Millard, Luke Drozd, Anke Weckman, Sean Stepanoff, Jason D’Aquino, Lesley Reppeteaux and many more for a total of 40 artists.
