This is the weekend that Art Basel will be taking place in Miami. There is an insane amount of art to be seen, and many of the artists that have been featured on this and other art sites dedicated to “underground” art, are being shown in some of the booths at the event. Black Maria Gallery is one of them, and will be a part of the Aqua Art Miami in booth #23. Some of the artists that will be featured are: Paul Chatem, Steven Daily, Ken Garduno, Jason Hernandez, Tom Neely and more. The preview of works is up on the galleries website if you want to check them all out.
Art Basel is one of the events that I would love to go to, but there are a few other sites that were able to attend and have ongoing coverage. Stop by Arrested Motion and Daily Du Jour for more pics of the work that can be seen at Art Basel this year.

Todays artist of the day is another Creep Machine favorite, Ken Garduno. Not only is his work always exciting to see, but it’s also quite staggering at how many unique ideas he is able to get.

Ken currently has a solo show going on at the Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles. The show is entitled “Channels” and if filled with some excellent paintings. A good majority of them have color splashed in, which looks striking when set against the monochromatic washes that he does. The show almost sold out, but there is still a few left. Ken also contributed a painting in the “This is the End” group show (1st below). The painting in the show is 12 3/4″ x 16 3/4″, acrylic wash and ink. It’s still available and all framed up.

Here is the lineup for the shows that are going on this weekend.

Friday:
“Paper Pushers 2008″ opens up at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco. The show looks amazing, and this show is also a great way to score some work from your favorite artists for a killer price.

Saturday:

“2d/3d Show” is a group show brought to you by Fabric8 and Neon Monster. The works will be at both locations, so its a good idea to just check out both stores. Just a few artists that will be there are: Dave Crosland, Grant Gilliland, Ken Keirns, Rueben Rude and many more.

“Buried Beneath Me”
opens up at the Project Gallery in L.A. The show features work by Ken Garduno, Derek Albeck and others.

Then there is a duo show with art by Jennybird Alcantra and Craig LaRontonda at the Black Maria Gallery in Los Angeles. The show is online right now, ad the works by Jennybird are excellent. I really dig her work, and it looks even better in person. Head on over and check it out: BlackMariaGallery.com
