Shows this weekend: “Blender”, Chet Zar, Travis Louie & Kris Kuksi

After a long week of reading what seems like nothing but bad news, the weekend is finally here, and with it a whole host of killer shows.

Friday:
“Fallen” will open at the Varnish Art Gallery in San Francisco. This show will feature work by Carlos Huante and Jose Ismael Fernandez. It’s not often that I get to talk about sculpture, ad I am a huge fan of Fernandez. His sculptures are so amazing, I am particularly fond of “Jane”, “Struggle” and “Fallen”. “Red Forest”, a show featuring work by Ekundayo and KMNDZ will have its reception at the Thinkspace Gallery. You will also be able to see work by Jeaneen Carlino and Michael Alvarez in the Project Room.

At Roq La Rue in Seattle, a group show featuring the work of Dan Quintana, Chet Zar and Jeremy Bennett will open. All three are artists are amazing, this would be a great show to see in person. Make sure you watch the site to see when the work is put online. Roq La Rue Gallery

Saturday:
At the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, there will be a duo show of work from Damon Soule and Chris Mendoza. The reception is from 6-9pm. Joshua Liner Gallery

“Blender”, the inaugural show of the new Cerasoli : leBasse Gallery (formerly Project Gallery & Lab101) will open. The show features work by Melissa Haslam, Vincent Hui, Mari Inukai, Ryuichi Ogino and Deth P Sun in Gallery I. Gallery II will feature Jennifer Davis and Suzanne Sattler. The Copro Naso Gallery will have works from three artists, Jimmy Pickering with his show “Immaculate Deception”, Laurie Lipton with “Day of the Dead” and Dave Burke with “Fun Size Frights”. Some of the work is online for a preview, and the rest is quickly to follow. Copro Nason Gallery

“Monster Art Rally”, a show of plush and custom vinyl creatures opens at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco. Just a few of the artists that will have works there are: Brandt Peters, Buff Monster, Chet Zar, Kathie Olivas, El Maz and many others. The work will be online to view noon this Friday. Finally at the Shooting Gallery in San Francisco, will be a group show featuring the work of Kris Kuksi, Travis Louie and Mercedes Helnwein. This is going to be a great show. I am excited to see the work if Kris Kuksi and Mercedes in person. I have seen Travis Louie’s work once before, and am very happy to be able to do so again, it looks so amazing in person. I’ll be at the show snapping pictures.

New prints by Olivas, Peters & Christian at Circus Posterus

It looks like there are some new prints available over at the Circus Posterus site.

Brandt Peters has two new prints, “Yoki” from the Yokai in your Eye Show and “The Sitting Room” from a recent show at Gallery 1988. Yoki is limited to 25, and Sitting Room is limited to only 20. Sas Christian has a new print entitled “Spun”. Its a giclee on canvas, 8″ x 10″ and is limited to 30. And two new prints that were collaboration works by Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas, “Hysteria” and “No 8″. both prints are on canvas, as well as paper limited to 25 each.

There is also a small amount of these collab prints framed as well for just a little bit more. Hit them up on the site if your interested. Head on over and check out all the new editions. I’m really hooked on that “No 8″ (shown) print, it looks amazing.

“Strangely Mannered” opening on Friday at the Gallery 1988 in SF. The show features work by Travis Louie, Scott Scheidly, Joe Vaux & Brandt Peters. I was able to make it to the reception, it was a blast and was able to talk to Travis, Tanem Davidson (Newbrow Documentary) and Gene Guynn otherwise known as Rhino Barking Sparrow. “4 on the Floor” opened this Saturday at “The Gallery” in Atlanta. The show features work by David MacDowell, Brandi Read, Emma Mount & Jessica Elaine Blinkhorn. There are some really amazing pieces in this show, and I know the prices are too good to be true for some of them. Head on over and take a look. 4 on the Floor Group Show

Also on Saturday, the new solo show of Shawn Barber opened up at the Billy Shire Fine Arts Gallery. The show is entitled “Tattooed Portraits: “Los Angeles”, and features some really killer works. There is a few watercolor works in the mix, and a massive painting of Kat Von D that is already sold. If you take a look, a few of the works are also available as prints. Shows this weekend: Space Party, Joshua Liner & Paul Chatem

There are some really killer shows opening this weekend, wish I could see them all.

“Happily Ever After 2″ is a group show curated by Monica Choy. It opens on Friday at the Suite 100 Gallery in Seattle. The show looks great, wish I could see it in person. She does have some preview pics up that you can look at Here.

“MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS” is a duo show featuring art by Kathie Olivas & Brandt Peters. It opens this Friday night at the Thinkspace Gallery. You can see the show online right now: Olivas & Peters at Thinkspace.

“Zombies Attack Again!” opens this Saturday at the M.F. Gallery in New York. The show features work by Frank Russo, James Wrona, Gary Pullin (art director of Rue-Morgue Magazine) and many others. There will also be live music. Check it out here: Zombies Attack Group show

Art Whino is having the “Yuri’s Night ’08 – World Space Party”. There will be perfomances, music and art by Scott G Brooks, Papermonster, Arabella Proffer, Brandi Read & I believe David Macdowell has a piece in the show as well. Aaron Jasinski will have his first solo show, “Seraphim and Spacemen” at Distinction Gallery this Saturday. The show looks amazing, there is a huge amount of work. You can check it all out here: Aaron Jasinski Solo Show

The Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will have it’s Inaugural Group show open on Saturday the 12th. Liner is the co-founder of the Lineage Gallery, and this is his new gallery. You can see work by Shawn Barber, Ron English, Jeremy Fish, Blaine Fontana, Naoto Hattori, Zach Johnsen, Kris Kuksi, Travis Louie, Greg Simkins, Ben Tour and many others. I’m super excited about “Running on Empty”, Paul Chatem’s first solo show at the Shooting Gallery in SF. The show is online for you to gawk at, and maybe purchase. I love his work, and will be seeing this one in person this week for sure. Check out the show here: Paul Chatem Solo Show
