Brendan Danielsson – “Diarrhainbow” @ Copro Gallery

On August 11th the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica opened three solo shows for Rob Sato, Matt Rota, and the highlight of this article Brendan Danielsson. All three exhibitions are amazing, however the work of Danielsson stays with you well after you leave the page. Or of course for those lucky viewers that were able to see the show in person, I imagine that after you left the gallery these drawings and paintings were burned in your mind. Not only is Danielsson extremely talented with graphite and oils, he has a way of creating grotesque imagery that is a blast to look at. In a way it reminds me of some of the drawings that Da Vinci had created. Portraits and figures that were meant to be grotesque, and an exploration into medical curiosities. The work in “Diarrhainbow” seems to touch on the gross, awkward, and nasty vibe that everyone is sure to feel once in a while. A couple of the preview images here will be behind the jump link, for those browsing the site at work. After you look at these works head on over to the gallery for the rest.

13th Hour @ Last Rites Gallery

The most recent incarnation of the 13th Hour group show at the Last Rites Gallery opened this past Friday, October 29th. I am told by a few of the artist that attended the reception, that all went well, and it was one of the best show yet. The full show is now online to view, and seeing how today is Halloween you might want to head on over and check out some of the art. There is some really amazing work in this show, once again Scott G Brooks creates a mind-blowing painting, and I love how Sarah Joncas created something creepy in a Hitchcock kind of way.

The show is entitled “Things to Come…”: Visions of the future, dark and bright, featuring the work of 25 artists such as Doug Boehm, Chris Buzelli, Paul Chatem, R.S. Connett, Brendan Danielsson, Bob Dob, Charlie Immer, Jason Limon, Dan May, Heiko Muller, Nathan Ota, Shaunna Peterson, Chris Ryniak, Scott Scheidly, Joe Scarano, Jim (Ojimbo) Sheely, Allison Sommers, Nathan Spoor and more. I really love the pianting by Charlie Immer (first), he has such an amazing ay of painting something so morbid, but so colorful and almost happy at the same time.

“Lunch Is On Brendan” original by Justin Degarmo

If you haven’t checked out the featured artists area of the site, I suggest you go there. Not only will you see the work of Ojimbo but Justin Degarmo as well, both of them are amazing artists.

The piece shown here is an original that is available from Justin. The piece is entitled “Lunch Is On Brendan”, as in Brendan Danielsson fellow Art Dorks member and superb artist as well. The painting is acrylic on wood, 12″ x 12″. The colors on this one are outstanding, as well as the whole layout an content. It really freaks me right out, and thats possibly why I love this painting so much, aside form the skill that Justin has of course. This painting is still available and needs to be hanging on someones wall, if not yours than maybe mine, if anyone feels like being generous…. :)

Head on over to Juston etsy page to see this work, as well as other paintings he has for sale:
