Photos: “Under the Gun” group show @ Articulated Gallery

It has been while since I have been asked to curate a show, and is something I would like to do more often. Articulated Gallery needed a show for the month of June and they asked me to whip together a quick group show, and since time was limited “Under the Gun” was born. The show features work by Chet Zar, Dan Harding, Jessica Ward, Apricot Mantle, Patrick Deignan, John Cebollero, Godmachine, Megan Frauenhoffer, Larkin, Jon Macnair, Jessica Stewart, and Cate Rangel. I am very happy with the show, and was also happy to have some new talent such as Jessica Stewart (featured) and Megan Frauenhoffer (featured) in the show. The show will be up until July 1st, so if you haven’t had a chance to stop by yet, make sure you do. Otherwise I took some photos and made a new video of the exhibition. Hit the link for the video and the rest of the photos.

“Speaking in Tongues” @ Black Vulture Gallery

Buddy Nestor put together an amazing show recently that opened at the Black Vulture Gallery on June 3rd. The artwork has not shown up on the gallery’s web page, however many of the works have shown up on BUddy’s own Facebook page. So I thought I would make it easier and show the work here. This is a very large group show, and features some outstanding work. Works by Cam Rackam, Brian Smith, Dan Harding, Apricot Mantle, Charlie Immer, Crystal Barbre, Dave Glass, Ewelina Ferruso, Isis Graywood, Kat Gun, Jessica Ward, Kristen Ferrel, JoKa, Jeremy Hush, Paul Romano, Lauren Rusignola, Peter Adamyan, and many more make up for a solid show. I am really hooked on the painting “Raphael Goes to Hell” by Lauren Rusignola (shown last). Of course I’m always a sucker for paintings that feature elements and themes from classical works of art, but the textures and style of this painting are amazing in itself. Take a look at the full show over at Buddy’s Facebook Page:

Introducing Paper Devil Press & Exit 11 by John Cebollero

I am happy to introduce the latest project from the Creep Machine. Paper Devil Press is a new print shop that will feature exclusive limited edition prints, original works of art, and in the future open edition prints and zines. The goal of Paper Devil is to bring amazing artwork to the fans at prices that allow everyone to collect great art. It is also my goal to make mush of the art and prints you see at the shop unique, and unlike many art shops online.

The very first Exclusive limited edition print is by John Cebollero and is entitled “Exit 11″. This print is from a painting that was seen in the “This is the End” group show, and was also the image used for the subscriber edition of Juxtapoz Magazine in 2009. The print is 8 1/4″ x 10″ giclee on 100% cotton rag paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 20 + 5 Artist Proofs. The detail and colors on this print are intense. I will be giving away one of these artists proofs this week over at the Paper Devil Facebook group, so make sure you “like” the new group for a chance to win. Otherwise head on over to the new print site and see what is there. Originals by Dan Harding, and prints by Chris Peters and Martin Wittfooth.

Preview: Dan Harding, Patrick Deignan & Larkin @ Congregation Gallery

For all of those lucky art fans in Los Angeles, the Congregation Gallery will be opening three must-see solo exhibitions tonight, May 14th at 9pm. Dan Harding will have new works with his show “Splinters”, Patrick “Star 27″ Deignan will have “Bad Obsession”, and finally “Rhinestone Deities” from Washington artist Larkin. With this new series of works, Larkin will summon “the creatures of land, air, and imagination to reinvent a polytheistic court of guardians and daemons. Utilizing dead religions as a template, He populates his new Otherworld with anthropomorphic deities, each with its own purpose and personality. Animal, human and teratogenic smithereens combine to form divine chimaeras and immortal misfits.” Dan Harding will once again be dipping into your worst nightmares, and putting the imagery few can imagine onto canvas with the skilled hands of a master. Patrick Deignan set out to tell a “brief narrative of coveted fame and the attempt to find fulfillment in things outside oneself. The pieces focus on themes of addiction, lust, and the loss of the spirit. The figure is portrayed in vibrant colors as if attracted to neon lights just off the canvas, like a moth to flame.”
This is going to an exciting night with some amazing artwork on view. Here are a few preview images, and keep your eyes on the galleries web page for the full show.

This Saturday night, April 16th, the Hyaena Gallery opened a group show entitled “For Those Who Slept 2″, a reinterpretation of the Monsterpalooza Exhibit. This group show features some killer monster art by such artists as D.W. Frydendall, James Bonner, Dan Harding, Jeff Rebner, Peter Adamyan and more. Take a look at the images below and then head on over to the site for the full show.

Running from November 1st to the 15th is a group exhibition of art inspired by the Scream movies, specifically Scream 4 which will be out soon. The reception is this Saturday, November 6th from 8pm to midnight. I am not a fan of the Scream movies, but there is some great artists in this show, and the best part is that the work in this exhibition will be featured in a scene in the movie. Artwork from D.W. Frydendall, Char Hall, Dan Harding, Clint Carney, Skip Crank, Nicolas Caesar, Rick “Dienzo” Blanco, Jeremy Cross, and many more is now on view. Take a look at the preview images and then over to the site for the full show.

Halloween is upon us again, one of my favorite times of the year. Not only is it filled with great memories of being a kid, eating too much candy and watching horror movies late into the night, but this season is when some of the creepiest art is made. This is the second year I have posted a Halloween feature, and hopefully this one is even better. Head on over to the feature page and see work by: Chris Murray, Charlie Immer, Apricot Mantle, Scott Move, Naoto Hattori, Jessica Ward, Dean McDowell, Esao Andrews, Brian Smith, Dennis Brown, Dan Harding, Ryan Heshka, Celene Petrulak, Adrian Borda, Ego, Buddy Nestor, Edward Frausto, Laurie Lipton, Dave MacDowell, Jehan Choo, Natalie Shau, Joshua Carlton, Dan Hipp, Dienzo, Sarah Joncas, Chet Zar, Chris Brodahl, JR Williams, Tom Haubrick, Nicole Absher, Larkin, and Nouar.

If there is any art you find creepy, that hasn’t been added to this gallery, add the link to the art in the comments.

“Oil & Fire” with Dan Harding and David Richardson

Opening this Saturday, October 2nd, at the Hyaena Gallery is a duo show entitled “Oil & Fire” and will feature the work of Dan Harding and David Richardson. As i’m sure you’ve seen on this site countless times, Dan creates amazing oil paintings, and to compliment those will be the sculptural work of David Richardson. There is some really killer new works from Dan, such as the “seasons” series he did painting representations of summer, spring, fall, and winter. There is also a work created by each artist entitled “Oil & Fire” that will be put up on the site this Saturday some time. Take a look at the preview images, and then check out the show if you can.
