Leanne Biank launches new website

Leanne Biank has just launched a new design for her website. It looks great and most importantly is easy to move around in, and the gallery has nice big pictures.
Shown is one of the latest paintings Leanne has done, “If They Could Come Back With Max” from the “Beyond the Page” show that took place @ Gallery 1988. It’s a fantastic painting, oil on wood 27″ x 23″ and looks amazing framed.

“Idiot Box” @ Gallery 1988 LA

The latest cult themed group show, “Idiot Box” opens at the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles tonight. This new show is all about the television, so you will see work about shows that we grew up with as well as shows that are melting our brains right now.

The show looks petty good, there seems to be a large amount of artists that focused on ALF and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I was happy to see some shows such as “Twilight Zone” as done by Ken Garduno, Scott Campbell did a great mashup of “Greatest American Hero” and the “A-Team”. Marcus Shaefer (shown) did one of the creepiest “Ren & Stimpy” themed works I have seen so far.

Take a look at some of my favorites, and then head on over to check out the whole show. There is a quite a bit of prints available from the works, and I know that during he reception Gelaskins will be giving away skins of Alex Pardee’s painting as well as all sorts of goodies.

“Anatomy of a Somnambulist” print by Mia

The San Francisco location of Gallery 1988 is going to be releasing a new print from Michelle “Mia” Araujo today. The print is based off of a painting Mia had at the “Illuminate” show at the Corey Helford Gallery. It’s being released today by Gallery 1988 at noon. The print is 16″ x 20″, signed and numbered in an edition of 25. To get one of these contact the gallery at (415)409-1376 or gallery1988sf@gmail.com

It’s really quite a striking image, I love the colors and peaceful expression she has.

Shows now online: Imaginary Friends, Drawing Room & Destination Unknown

Looks like its going to be another one of those weekends that is just filled with great shows opening up.
Here we go, these are the ones that are online for your viewing pleasure:

“Imaginary Friends”, a group show featuring work by Andrew Bell, Cherri Wood, Israel Sanchez, Ken Garduno, Scott Campbell & Yoskay Yomamoto at the Gallery 1988 SF is now up. The work looks amazing, and I am especially drawn to the pieces that Ken Garduno (shown) and Andrew Bell submitted. Check it out: Gallery 1988 SF

“Destination Unknown” opened up and Distinction Art, and features work by Sarah Joncas, Angelina Wrona & Patrick Fatica. It’s a good looking show, as all the work by the three artists flows together nicely. It’s very cohesive. Check it out here: Distinction Art

“The Drawing Room” a show curated by Audrey Kawasaki opened Friday at Thinkspace. There is also work by Timothy Karpinski & Robert Pokorny in the project room. I think the Drawing Room show looks great, it’s nice to be able to see some graphite work from Travis Louie (shown), as well as Audrey (shown). I hope he puts more of that kind of work in some shows. Thinkspace Gallery

At the Cerasoli-Lebasse Gallery, you have two shows that opened up. Jill Simonson & Scott Belcastro, as well as “Put on a Happy Face” by Nate Frizzell. All the work here looks excellent, check it out: Cerasoli-Lebasse Gallery

The Copro Nason Gallery has work by Tin, Sas Christian & Kukula for you to gawk at. Tin is getting popular very fast, no works are left to purchase. I am not super happy with Sas’ work, I am a big fan, but these pieces just don’t have the same pop to them. Check out the show here: Copro Nason Gallery

“It Wanders West”, Craola Solo show @ Gallery 1988 LA

Greg “Craola” Simkins latest solo show at the Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is now online to view. The show is completely sold out, save for some prints and a limited edition vinyl toy. The show looks amazing, there is a huge amount of work and the presentation makes me wish I was able to see this show in person.

The print “Knight Watch” (shown) from the show is a giclee on stretched canvas print, 24″ x 36″. It is hand signed and numbered in an edition of 30. That is one massive print, and the idea that it is already stretched is killer. You just pop it up on your wall and enjoy. Not sure how long these will last.

Head on over and check out the show. Craola at Gallery 1988 LA

Chris Murray originals and prints for sale

Chris Murray currently has some original works for sale on Etsy. The three original works were done during his senior year in college. Each one of the originals comes with some extras, such as the Batman Begins piece (shown) comes with the preliminary sketch and a copy of the movie. Edit: this piece is now sold, but there some others available.

I was able to see his work in person this last week in San Francisco at the “Everyone In Together” show at Gallery 1988. I have to say that I am a big fan of his work now, the detail and textures in his paintings especially the “Radio head” piece was great (which is still available by the way). You can also score some prints of his work over at the Etsy page. Chris Murray on Etsy

New prints from Chris Murray

radiohead_chrismurray.jpg
New York artists Chris Murray has some new prints available from his online shop. He has prints of both of the works that he had in the 2007 Crazy 4 Cult show, the 2008 “Toys” show and the upcoming “Everyone in together” at the SF Gallery 1988 this June.

I really dig his style and can’t wait to see his work in person, the print shown here will be at the SF show, so now is a good chance to grab the print first. The print can be either on glossy or non-glossy paper and I believe is 11″ x 14″. I think all the prints in his store are open edition prints.

Check out the store area of his site for the prints, and if you look around the blog you might be able to see the progress images of the print shown. Chris Murray prints

Casey Weldon’s “Spring Print Sale!”

viewmistress_caseyweldon.jpg
Casey Weldon is having a spring print sale. I’m a huge fan of Casey’s work and have featured his prints three times now in my SFWeekly articles. His “At At” print made it in the best of “2007″ I wrote for the site.

The spring sale features a selection of eight prints, the At-At print included as well as two prints that are from the paintings he has in the “Toys!” show at the Gallery 1988. The “Viewmistress” (shown) piece was one of my favorites from the show, and now there is a print of it.

Head on over and take advantage of this sale, the prints are only $15 a pop!

“Silent Spring” Stella Im Hultberg solo show, Mar 28th

wednesday_stellaimhultberg.jpg
Tonight at the Gallery 1988 in San Francisco, Stella im Hultberg’s solo show “Silent Spring” opens up. The reception starts at 7pm and will go until 10pm. There will be a mini print set released, with 5% of the sets containing an original drawing, and a larger print.

There is a preview of the show online, a good majority of the work has already sold. I imagine the prints are going to sell very fast tonight. I love the new oil on canvas works that she has been making, and cant wait to see these in person. I’ll be heading to the reception and will post photos during the weekend.

Travis Lampe giclee print set

lampe_set.jpg
Gallery 1988 will be releasing two new prints from Travis Lampe this Friday March 7th.

Each print is a 12″ x 12″ giclee print on velvet art paper, signed and numbered and limited to 25. The print on the left is “Accidental Mishap”, the right on is “Mountaintop Scuffle”. I have seen both of these prints in person and they look amazing. The detail and colors are perfect, the only thing really missing from these is paintbrush marks.

You can actually save $25 by buying these together and they would look great framed right next to each other anyway.
These prints are being released by the SF Gallery 1988 you can get them by calling (415) 409-1376.
