Thinkspace Gallery has three shows opening. Stella Im Hultberg with “Memento Mori” in the main room and Catherine Brooks with “The Seeded Wind and Silent Motion; an Oeuvre of Beetled Beauty” in the project room. Hannah Stouffer will also have “Twilight & Fate” as part of the gallery “Fresh Faces” series.

Copro Gallery is opening “Monster” a group show curated by Travis Louie and quite an impressive list of artists.

Shooting Gallery will open “Until the Whistle Blows” a duo show of works from Paul Chatem and Mike Maxwell. I have been waiting for this one, I am huge fan of Paul Chatem’s work. His style just keeps getting more and more complex. A great example of continual growth every artist should have.
Right next door at White Walls is new art from Becca and at Gallery Three, “And A Wolf Shall Devour The Sun” By Harley Lafarrah Eaves.

This week is just filled with amazing shows. Coming to the Shooting Gallery in SF this Saturday, June 13th is a solo exhibition of new paintings by Greg Gossel. The show is entitled “Happy Endings”, even though the art in the show is a bit darker than his previous works. In an interview with Arrested Motion, Greg said “Many of the pieces incorporate this ongoing theme of a fall from grace, pieces of our collective history which were not the storybook endings that are so often portrayed in mass media.” This idea is quickly understood when you see some of the paintings which incorporate iconic figures like Mike Tyson, Princess Diana and JFK. The show looks massive, with over 60 paintings ranging from 12″ x 12″ and 106″ x 75″ such as “Iron Mike” (shown). The works are online to view, so head on over and take a look and if you can try to catch the show in person. There is also a great video priview over at Vimeo Here

In honor of the Grammy’s, Feb 2nd through the 8th, Shooting Gallery along with Kris Lewis and help from Will.I.Am bring a group show entitled “World on Fire”. The show features portraits of big name music stars painted by 20-25 of some of the best artists in the “Lowbrow” scene. The works and prints that re sold at the show will help to benefit the Pea Pod Foundation. A few sites have talked about this show, and Arrested Motion just posted a preview of some of the works that will be on view, and from what I have seen so far this show is going to not only help out a great foundation but bring the fans some killer artwork.

The show will feature portraits from: Lori Earley (Madonna), Paul Chatem (Rick Rubin), Kris Lewis (Beck), Travis Louie (Trent Reznor, NIN), Shawn Barber (Angus Young, AC/DC), Natalia Fabia (Pink), and it is also said we will see Jeremy Lipking painting Snoop Dogg, Ron English (Metallica), Van Arno (BB King), Shepard Fairey (Paul McCartney) and many more.
