There is a new print from James Jean over at the Process Recess shop. “Wave II” is one of the open edition prints, at 17″ x 22″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, signed and embossed. It’s a beautiful image, I love how James is able to not only make colorful energetic and brushy works, but also classy pieces like this. His shop is sure to have something for everyone.

Just before the new years I posted about the “Rickshaw” print by James Jean. This print can now be found in his online shop, along with a new print based on a painting. “Hound” is 22″ x 17″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, signed and embossed for $87. It’s a very colorful and energetic print, I don’t know if I am feeling it as much as some of his other work, but he is definitely one of those artists that always makes interesting work.

Giant Robot has just released a new print by James Jean. “Rickshaw” is 44″ x 28″, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for $500. The original the print is based on is currently on view at the Japanese American National Museum.

The third installment in the Process Recess book series is now available. PR Vol 3 is now available from James’ online shop. The limited edition of the book has now sold out, but this version is ready to go. The book is hardcover, 248 4c pages, 9″ x 6″ with a die-cut and embossed cover for $34.95.
There are a few previews around that show what is inside the book, but with the quality of work that James creates, I’m sure this book is going to be amazing.
It’s been a year long in the making, and now the James Jean “Hint Mints” series is finally finished. Previous series featured such artists as Glenn Barr, Owen Smith, Gary Baseman and Shag. The mint tins should be ready for purchase soon, but for those that fancy prints instead James has added open editions of these illustrations in the Process Recess online shop. Each one of the prints is 17″ x 21″ on ultrasmooth art paper, signed and embossed for $85 each.
Well the 2009 San Diego Comic Con is now over, and the opportunity to score some great art and collectibles is over as well. That is unless of course you want to scour ebay and pay inflated prices. Some great stuff will be coming out in the next few weeks for those that saved money, such as this “Kindling” poster book by James Jean. The portfolio has 12 4c posters in at at 12″ x 16″ each, and includes one 24″ x 16″ gatefold poster all for $30.
The 2009 Comic Con is San Diego is now underway. There is so much to post its ridiculous, so I’ll just point out some of the highlights.
James jean’s new book, Kindling will be released at the Chronicle Books booth #1506. He will be signing there this Saturday from 2-3pm. The book is $29.95. It can be had here as well (Pre-order). His PR3 book will also be coming out, with advanced signings at Last Gasp, Booth 1616

Back in July James Jean shared an illustration that he did of Sally Jupiter (played by Carla Gugino) from the movie Watchmen. The image showed up in the trailer, but only for a second. Shame as it’s a really great illustration. The Art Director Alex McDowell wanted the piece to have a Vargas like feel to it, I think James succeeded perfectly with that.
The print is 17″ x 22″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, it’s open edition so the print will be in the shop for a while now.

James Jean’s solo show at the Jonathan Levin Gallery is now over. Except for a couple of limited edition prints, the show is all sold out.
Over on Process Recess James has added a bunch of new prints based on the works in the show. “Vanity” and “Maze” have been there for a bit, but the four portraits are new. The “hare” print (shown) that was given away for free, is now in the shop but doesn’t have the show name and info on it. Each print is 17″ x 22″, Giclee on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper. All of the prints found in the shop are open-edition, so be careful when your looking for prints on Ebay. I have seen a few of these prints sell for four times the price because the buyer didn’t know any better.
