Tribute to Dan O’Bannon, R.I.P.

On Thursday December 17th, screenwriter Dan O’Bannon passed away after a 30 year battle with Crohn’s disease. Dan is known for writing such movies as Alien, Aliens, Dark Star, Lifeforce, Invaders from Mars and my favorite Return of the Living Dead, which he not only wrote but directed. I have watched his movies a hundred times over, and if your like me they were influential in your love of horror as well as zombies. Oh and what young guy can forget the cemetery scene with Trash played by Linnea Quigley? So here is a few works of art inspired by some of the movies Dan gave us. If you know more, please let us know in the comments.

Original drawings by Jason Goad

Jason Goad has just added some original drawings to his 1000markets store. The drawings include an Obama portrait, “17 is the Loneliest Number” and “Trapjaw” a drawing he had in the “Masters of the Universe” Tribute Show. The drawings are all 8.5″ x 11″, graphite on Canson paper. One of things that is hard to see from images on the net, is how insanely detailed Jason is with his crosshatching. Areas that look like simple pencil shading is really tightly woven hatch marks, that look like a machine pulled them off. It’s an amazing effect to see and makes your eyes go a little wonky. Along with the drawings there are also some prints and posters to be had.

Artist Profiles: Jason Goad

Jason Goad is an illustrator out of Ohio. He is a graduate of the Columbus College of Art and Design, and has done work for such clients as Mattel/Hot Wheels, Alternative Press, Warped Tour, The Giant Peach, Alamo Drafthouse, The Lonestar Rollergirls and many more.
One of the things that really got me hooked on his art is his drawing style; that cross hatching he does is insane. He just posted some new work for a Halloween show at C2 Gallery that I had to share. His work is not usually this dark, but it fits with the mood. Make sure you head over to his homepage to see the rest of his art, you will not regret it.
