Martin Wittfooth’s “Dark Water” group show @ Copro Gallery

On Saturday, November 12, the Copro Gallery opened a group show sure to make any art fan gaze endlessly at the screen, or in person if your lucky enough. Dark Water is a group show curated by Martin Wittfooth and features the work of: Aron Wiesenfeld, Billy Norrby, Andrew Hem, Adam Miller, Charlie Immer, Alyssa Monks, Steven Assael, Christian Van Minnen, Jenny Morgan, Caitlin Hackett, Brad Kunkle, Dave Cooper, Elizabeth Winnel, Jean-Pierre Roy, Keniche Hoshine, Jean Labourdette (Turf One), Matt Rota, Jason Yarmosky, Nicola Verlato, Phil Hale, John Brophy, Eric White, Josh Keyes, Jeremy Lipking, and even Martin Wittfooth. The thing that makes this show so amazing, besides the outstanding work from each artist, is the idea that this show is really a collection of some of the mot talented, exciting artists creating art today. This show has the ability to give fans of Josh Keyes, Martin Wittfooth, or Jeremy Lipking, an introduction to some other artists that might not have been on their radar. It’s also one of those exhibitions that every work is breathtaking and has the ability to steal the show. 7th Annual Blab Show & Ryan Heshka @ Copro Gallery

In anticipation of the upcoming BLABWORLD No. 2 and 3, Copro Gallery opened the 7th Annual “Blab Show” featuring work by many of the best artists working today, such as: Joe Sorren, Ana Bagayan, Shag, Marc Burckhardt, Chet Zar, Martin Wittfooth, R.S. Connett, Laurie Hogin, Sas Christian, Ryan Heshka, Gary Baseman, Owen Smith, Alex Kuno, and many more. Ryan Heshka was not only in the group show, but opened his latest solo exhibition “Strange Powers 2″ at the gallery as well. The great thing about this new show by Heshka, was that along with the paintings he also offered original drawings and sketches, that were used to prepare for the paintings. It was a great way to give the fans an insight into the working process, and show off Ryan’s drawing skills as well.

Review: The Blab! Show @ Roq La Rue Gallery

On August 12th Roq La Rue in Seattle, WA opened the latest Blab! Show group invitational, with a specific theme of the Krampus as inspiration. For those not familiar with the Krampus, he is a pre-christian demon like creature that accompanied St Nick during Christmas and punished the bad children. The exhibition features work by Ryan Heshka, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Erik Mark Sandberg, Yoko d’Holbachie, Travis Louie, Travis Lampe, Martin Wittfooth, Ana Bagayan, Owen Smith, Chris Buzelli, Shag, Brian Despain, Mark Garro, Marc Burkhardt, Laurie Hogin, Andy Kehoe, Derek Nobbs, Alex Kuno, Andrew S. Arconi, Julianna Swaney, Jason Holley, and Fred Stonehouse. The folks over at Loved To Death, made their way from San Francisco to Seattle to check out the show. Preview: Chet Zar – “Faces of Death” @ Last Rites Gallery

Opening this Friday, July 22nd, at the Last Rites Gallery in New York is the latest solo show from Chet Zar. Entitled “Faces of Death”, this is Chet’s second solo exhibition at the gallery following last years “Endarkenment”. This new show will feature 16, 11″ x 14″ portraits, each one with a custom made frame. This show will also mark the remodeling of Last Rites, and along with Chet’s solo show, Craig La Rotonda will open his latest solo show, and there will be live painting with Genevive Zacconi, Shawn Barber, Kim Saigh, Chet Zar, Angie Mason, Fred Harper, Billy Norrby, Matt Rota, Paul Booth, & Martin Wittfooth. Sounds like it is going to be on amazing night, as if seeing the stunning new portrait work from Chet wasn’t enough. Prints: “Red Soil” by Martin Wittfooth @ A Paper Tiger

One of the newest changes to the Creep Machine in the coming weeks, is the frequency of print related posts. I am going to bring the amount of print release posts to a minimum. There are already many sites that feature new print releases, and this was never the impetus of the site to begin with. Outstanding, top notch prints I will always share such as this new one from Martin Wittfooth. Entitled “Red Soil”, this new print is a generous 16.5″ x 24″ on Archival cotton rag fine art paper, signed and numbered in an edition of only 15. This is a beautiful image, and one of the best prints I have seen from Wittfooth.

Introducing Paper Devil Press & Exit 11 by John Cebollero

I am happy to introduce the latest project from the Creep Machine. Paper Devil Press is a new print shop that will feature exclusive limited edition prints, original works of art, and in the future open edition prints and zines. The goal of Paper Devil is to bring amazing artwork to the fans at prices that allow everyone to collect great art. It is also my goal to make mush of the art and prints you see at the shop unique, and unlike many art shops online.

The very first Exclusive limited edition print is by John Cebollero and is entitled “Exit 11″. This print is from a painting that was seen in the “This is the End” group show, and was also the image used for the subscriber edition of Juxtapoz Magazine in 2009. The print is 8 1/4″ x 10″ giclee on 100% cotton rag paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 20 + 5 Artist Proofs. The detail and colors on this print are intense. I will be giving away one of these artists proofs this week over at the Paper Devil Facebook group, so make sure you “like” the new group for a chance to win. Preview: “INLE” group show curated by Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins @ Gallery 1988

Opening March 11th at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles is a group show curated by artist Greg ‘Craola’ Simkins. The show entitled “INLE”, will feature over 100 artists drawing inspiration from Richard Adams’ award winning book, WaterShip Down, and more specifically the Black Rabbit of Inlé. “Art From the New World” @ Bristol City Musuem

Curated by Jan Corey Helford, this past May 15th marked the opening of the “Art From the New World” group exhibition at the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery. This show will run until August 22nd, but for those of us that aren’t able to see it in person, we now have some images of the art and even behind the scenes photos of the preparation and build up to opening day (see here).

Last year the Bristol City Museum featured the works of Banksy, and during the course of the exhibition over 300,000 visited the museum. Now for the “Art From the New World” show, there have been over 5,000 visitors in the first 6 days of the opening. This is not only a very exciting show, but an important one for the future of the art we love so much. Originally referred to as a scene filled with “illustrators”, this art is now gaining more momentum than ever. Museums are taking notice, and the fan-base is becoming larger than ever. There is some amazing work in this show, from artists such as Kent Williams, David Stoupakis, Joe Sorren, Brandi Milne, Buff Monster, Camille Rose Garcia, Dave Kinsey, Travis Louie, Mercedes Helnwein, Ray Ceasar, Sas Christian, Melissa Forman, Jason Shawn Alexander, Dave Cooper, Liz McGrath, Mike Stilkey, Gary Baseman, Craola, Luke Chueh, Coop, Natalia Fabia, Chris Anthony, AJ Fosik, Joe Ledbetter, Todd Schorr, Van Arno, Martin Wittfooth, Josh Agle, Lola, Sylvia Ji, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden and many more. Hi Fructose 5th Anniversary Exhibition @ Copro Gallery

This past March 13th, the Copro Galley opened the 5th Anniversary Exhibition for Hi Fructose. Along with this amazing group show, Eric Fortune and Michael Page also had solo shows up as well. The group show featured some inspiring work by KMNDZ, Scott Hove, Martin Wittfooth, Lori Earley, Eric Fortune, Craola, Chet Zar, Amy Sol, Kris Kuksi, Jonathan Viner, Chris Mars and many more. The Eric Fortune works are not up on the site as of yet, but the Michael Page solo show is. His latest works have been more abstract, and less figurative than earlier pieces. These paintings still hold the same narrative feel that his older works had, and are even more mysterious than ever. The colors are breathtaking, and I like the idea that he decided to change his work up a bit. Take a look at the preview images from the shows, and then head on over and see all of the works.

“Lush Life 2″ @ Roq La Rue Gallery

Last week, the “Lush Life 2″ group invitational opened at Roq La Rue in Seattle. The shows features new works by Joe Sorren, Chris Berens, Marion Peck, Kris Kuksi, Travis Louie, Brian Despain, John Brophy, Martin Wittfooth, Ryan Heshka, Michael Brown, Charlie Immer, Mandy Greer, Gail Potocki, Laurie Hogin, Boomer, Madeline Von Foerster, Ryan Heshka and more. How is that for a line-up? With so much amazing work in one gallery it makes me wish Seattle was just a little closer. The show isn’t fully online yet for those of us that weren’t able to make the reception, but there is a web preview you can check out. So far from the preview, all of the works are very strong, but I am particularly taken with Travis Louie’s “The Ghost Of Laura From The Reeds”. His paintings are insane in person, the level of detail is very impressive to say the least. I also like that he adds stories to each of his characters. I often did this with my mothers Cabinet photo and tintype collection, but my stories were not as entertaining as the ones Travis comes up with.

I really liked that a good majority of the artists in this show, are either inspired by classical themes, or paint in the style of classical masters. This is seen with the work of Madeline Von Foerster, Andrew Arconti and the “Lady Clown” from Marion Peck. That painting is so perfect, the color palette, the inspiration from Francisco Goya’s “La maja desnuda“, and the expression that clown face has. I really hope this is turned into a print soon.

Preview: “A Cry For Help” Benefit Show @Thinkspace Gallery

Thinkspace Gallery will open “A Cry For Help” benefit show this coming Friday, January 8th. The show is presented by Born Free USA, whom along with the Animal Protection Institute helped Thinkspace with the “Fight For Flight” exhibition back in 2008. The theme for this years show is animals, endangered as well as thriving species, and supporting the ethical treatment of animals and making sure current and future generations understand about habitat loss and how important animals are for all of us.

20% of the proceeds of the sales will go to Born Free and A.P.I, as well as 100% of the proceeds from the limited editions that will be released the night of the reception. A great cause with some amazing art. What a perfect way to start out 2010. The list of participating artists is nothing short of spectacular. Paintings from such artists as Allison Sommers, Amy Sol, Andrew Hem, Andy Kehoe, Buff Monster, Catherine Brooks (Featured), Charlie Immer, Chet Zar (Interviewed, 2), Dan May, David MacDowell, Fred Harper, Heiko Müller, Jennybird Alcantara, Joao Ruas, Kelly Vivanco (Interviewed), Luke Kopycinski (Featured), Martin Wittfooth, Nimit Malavia, Rory Kurtz, Sarah Joncas (Interviewed), Scott G. Brooks, Tran Nguyen, Travis Louie, Van Arno and many more will be on view. If you are in the area there is no reason to miss this show, there is just too much good work to pass up seeing it all in person. Shows this weekend: Josh Keyes, Bob Dob & The Blab! Show

Here is the rundown of art shows that will be opening up this weekend.

Friday:
Swarm Gallery will host an exhibition of new works by Josh Keyes.

Perihilion Arts will open “Black Eyed Mouseketeers”, a new series of paintings by Bob Dob. The show is online and looks great.

Cave Gallery will open “Outside my Window”, a group show featuring art by Liz Brizzi, Adam Flores, Max Kauffman and more.

La Luz de Jesus is opening its four shows, as mentioned in an earlier post, with new art from Scott Holloway, Jessica Dalva, Misato Otake & Jasmine Worth.

Varnish Art will be having its last show at the current location, and will end it all with a new solo show entitled “ThankYouGoodbye” with works from Michael Page.

Strychnin Gallery will host “The Red Thread”, which features work by Jennybird Alcantra, Bethany Marchman and Edith Lebeau, who was a featured artist on the Creep Machine. Congrats Edith!

Saturday:
