1xrun is dropping a new print by Melissa Forman this Monday, October 24, entitled “She Who Flies With Cranes”. The print is 11″ x 15″, signed and numbered in a max edition of 45. Each print also comes with a certificate of authenticity. This is a beautiful print; I can’t remember a time when I saw a painting that captured the moment snow began to fall.

Opening this Saturday, November 13th at the Corey Helford Gallery, will be Melissa Forman’s first LA solo exhibition entitled “The Keeps of Creation”. This is Melissa’s largest body of work to date, and is truly breathtaking. The guest artist will be Andy Council with his new series of works” Parallel Evolution”. For the reception night, 300 sets of mini giclee prints, 4 5″ x 7″ each, will be given away to the first 300 visitors. Daily du Jour has an interview (here) with Melissa about he working process, inspirations and what she will do now that the work for this show is finished. If you have the ability to see this show in person, makes sure to stop by the gallery, you have until the beginning of December. Curated by Jan Corey Helford, this past May 15th marked the opening of the “Art From the New World” group exhibition at the Bristol City Museum & Art Gallery. This show will run until August 22nd, but for those of us that aren’t able to see it in person, we now have some images of the art and even behind the scenes photos of the preparation and build up to opening day (see here).
Last year the Bristol City Museum featured the works of Banksy, and during the course of the exhibition over 300,000 visited the museum. Now for the “Art From the New World” show, there have been over 5,000 visitors in the first 6 days of the opening. This is not only a very exciting show, but an important one for the future of the art we love so much. Originally referred to as a scene filled with “illustrators”, this art is now gaining more momentum than ever. Museums are taking notice, and the fan-base is becoming larger than ever. There is some amazing work in this show, from artists such as Kent Williams, David Stoupakis, Joe Sorren, Brandi Milne, Buff Monster, Camille Rose Garcia, Dave Kinsey, Travis Louie, Mercedes Helnwein, Ray Ceasar, Sas Christian, Melissa Forman, Jason Shawn Alexander, Dave Cooper, Liz McGrath, Mike Stilkey, Gary Baseman, Craola, Luke Chueh, Coop, Natalia Fabia, Chris Anthony, AJ Fosik, Joe Ledbetter, Todd Schorr, Van Arno, Martin Wittfooth, Josh Agle, Lola, Sylvia Ji, Marion Peck, Mark Ryden and many more. ART THAT CREEPS: Gothic Fantasies and the Macabre in Contemporary Art is a new book released by Korero Books and put together by Yasha Young, owner of Strychnin Gallery. The book is 192 pages, hardcover and is filled with “Neo-gothic visual energy and inspiration from the worlds of lowbrow and neo-surrealism. Featuring artists from all corners of the globe working in oil, digital, sculpture, engraving, porcelain, taxidermy and photography.” Some of the artists that can be found in this collection are Chet Zar (cover), Michael Ryan, Scott Holloway, Natalie Shau, Naoto Hattori, Nicoletta Ceccoli, David Stoupakis, Richard A. Friday:
Flatcolor Gallery opened the latest solo show of EGO, “Light in the Darkness” on Thursday, but the full preview for the show with all the works is now up.
La Luz de Jesus will open two new shows from John Puglisi and Mitch O’ Connell. I haven’t seen too many posts on the various art sites about this show, there should be it looks amazing. Both shows are online to view, head on over and take a look.
Eclectix Gallery will host “Art Attack”, a one night event of live painting, drawings, and meet and greet with Ben Jelter, Nicolas Ceasar, Sherwin Viray and Stephanie Mufson.
Cave Gallery will open “Coisas Esquisitas”, a group show featuring work by Tatiana Suarez, Danni Shinya Luo, Kendra Binney, Jaw Cooper & Tina Darling
Saturday:
Rivet Gallery is opening a duo show with new works from Scott Tolleson and Alberto Cerriteño. Good mix of custom toys, and Alberto’s amazing paper-cut works
Corey Helford will open the latest solo shows of Van Arno and Melissa Forman. I featured some work a bit ago, and this show is not to be missed
Hive Gallery will host the “Tarot: Group Show”, featuring work by Michael Ryan, NC Winters, Jessica Ward, Delphia, Gregory Rodriguez and many more.
Copro Nason will have new shows from Chet Zar, Rachel Bess, Winston Smith and Dark Vomit. Do not miss this Chet Zar show!
Opening this Saturday, October 3rd at the Corey Helford Gallery will be a duo show featuring new works from Van Arno and Melissa Forman. This is Van Arno’s second solo show at the gallery and is entitled “A Change of Skin”, and marks a new direction for the artist “as Arno introduces multiple characters and a looser, more gestural format to his work. The exhibition will also feature 100 limited-edition silk screen show prints that will be available only at the gallery.” Then we have Melissa Forman’s second showing at the gallery as well with “Garden of Shadows”.
Both artists are extremely talented, and being able to see both of their shows in the same gallery is a must for those that are close.
