It has just been a couple of months since Mike Maxwell’s latest solo show, “Extra Sensory”, took place at Subtext Gallery in San Diego, CA. Mike has jumped right back into the creative mode and released a few paintings I had to share. These new work are make with acrylic, gouache, and spray-paint. I love the abstract and messy feel they have, but there is still a hint of a figure there. Of course thee figure is not clear as to exactly what it is, but that’s not the point. Color, texture, and layout are what really bring this works into your mind and stay there for the rest of the day. Make sure to head on over to Mike’s Flickr page to see these new work, and the works from his Subtext show as well.
“Exuberance Found” @ Distinction Art
Opening this Saturday, January 8th, is a group show entitled “Exuberance Found” and will feature new work by Chris B Murray, Mike Maxwell, and Daryll Peirce. The new works from Chris B Murray are amazing. He stated over on his blog that he is really confident about his new work, and he think he has every right to be. I also like the fact that Murray even has a few drawings in the show, which are no less exciting than his acrylic works. The full show is now online to view, so head on over and see the rest of the works.
Dark Pop 2.0 @ Last Rites Gallery
Opening this Saturday Night, January 9th at the Last Rites Gallery in New York is the second installment of the Dark Pop group show. The shows will feature artists that don’t necessarily always create dark art but will do so for this show. Some of the artists are mainly “dark” in all of their works, so it should be a good mix of ideas. The artists that will be participating are: Esao Andrews, John Cebollero (Interviewed), Joshua Clay, Molly Crabapple, Amy Crehore, Yoko d’Holbachie, Leslie Ditto, Eric Fortune, GAIA, Stella Im Hultberg, Sarah Joncas (Interviewed), Danni Shinya Luo, David MacDowell, Mike Maxwell, Tara McPherson, Michael Page, Leslie Reppeteaux, Mijn Schatje and more.
Take a look at the preview pics and then make sure you keep on eye on the site for the full show.
Photos: Paul Chatem & Mike Maxwell @ Shooting Gallery
This past weekend, July 11th at the Shooting Gallery was “Until the Whistle Blows” with new works from Paul Chatem and Mike Maxwell. This is the second time I have seen the two artists shown at the gallery and was very excited to see the new work they came up with. I knew I would be impressed, but I had no idea how much I would have missed out had I not gone to the reception.I was able to get around 40 photos of the paintings, and even made a little video showing the way that Paul Chatem’s painting work, (Paul Chatem Video). Hit the “read more” link for the rest of the photos are well as an extended write-up.
