Prisma Artist Collective

Back in October 2011, a small group of artists had the idea to create a collective online. The internet is a great place to get your work out there, but I have often heard from artists that a place to swap ideas, share stories, converse, and even help each other out is lacking. So this group of artists started the Prisma Collective, and now there is already over 25 active members: Mary Jane Ansell, Tom Bagshaw, Lindsay Carr, Hsiao-Ron Cheng, Leontine Greenberg, Nicole Gustafsson, Caitlin Hackett, Daria Hlazatova, Ruben Ireland (shown), Sarah Joncas, Nom Kinnear King, Alex Louisa, Rod Luff, Kit Lane, Jen Mann, Kelly McKernan, Lady Orlando, Lily Piri, Audrey Pongracz, Michael Shapcott, Kaspian Shore, Allison Sommers, Kelly Vivanco, Casey Weldon, and Bec Winnel. The site is very well laid out, easy to navigate and is ready to go with the content. Each artists has their own profile and gallery, a shop section filled with prints and originals, and a list of interviews with the artists that will be published soon.

Preview: “Literal eyes” group show @ London Miles Gallery

Opening tonight, May 12th at the London Miles Gallery is a group exhibition with 30 artists creating art inspired by their favorite books. This type of group theme show has popped up a few times this past year, and as far as I’m concerned that’s a good thing. It could be another group show based on movies, or 80′s nostalgia. Book always win, and this list of artists show that. Tom Bagshaw, Linnea Strid, Nom Kinnear King, Sergio Mora, Tahnee Lonsdale, Zach Cohen, Camilla D’Errico, Craww, and Carles Gomila are just a few of the artists that created something for this show. Keep your eye on the galleries page for the full show.

“Idol Hours” @ London Miles Gallery

On November 13th, the London Miles Gallery opened a group show entitled “The Idol Hours”, which is a reflective study of great historical master paintings by new contemporary artists. The show features work by some amazing artists such as Dave MacDowell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Bagshaw, Matthew Bone, Travis Lampe, Zoe Lacchei, Bob Dob, Carrie Ann Baade, Carles Gomila, Nom Kinnear King, Chris B Murray, Ken Keirns, and many more. I was very excited, being an art history geek, to hear of this exhibition and see what some of these artists would come up with when taking classical works for inspiration. Ken Keirns did an outstanding re-interpretaion of Da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine”, and even Dave MacDowell chose to reimagibe Da Vinci’s work. Tom Bagshaw, Chris Murray, and Carrie Ann Baade made some stand-out paintings. I loved looking through the works and attaching them to the classical pieces the artists worked from. I do feel that Joe Ledbetter could have created something so much better, instead of painting a small area on a print. of the original work.
