The “Small Stuff 3″ show opened at the Bear and Bird Boutique and Gallery last November 22nd, the show will run up until January 9, 2010. The feature of this show is that all of the work is cash and carry, so you buy it and then walk out with it. If your buying the work online it immediately gets shipped to you. Great idea and perfect for those still shopping for gifts, or happily being a Scrooge and just buying stuff for yourself. The show features work by Ana Galvan, Danielle Estefan, Danny Brito, Dékal, Erik Jones, Naoto Hattori, Phil Noto, Shannon Bonatakis, Skot Olsen, Bill Carman and many more. The majority of the art is small, so you won’t find too many outrageous prices save for the Naoto Hattori. He commonly makes smaller works and the detail levels are skill is well worth the price. Here are a few examples of what can be had. For the full show chck out the gallery’s site.

Freshly opened this August 1st at Rivet Art in Colombus, OH is a group show entitled “We’ll Be Right Back… After These Messages” . All the pieces from the show are inspired by cartoons from the 80’s and 90’s, which in my humble opinion had some truly amazing cartoons. There are some really excellent artists participating in the show, Andrew Bell, Charlie Owens, Daniel Elson (co-curated the show), Scott Campbell, Thom Glick, Shannon Bonatakis, CJ Metzger and more.

I was already becoming a huge fan of Scott Campbell’s work, then he goes and makes an amazing Thundarr the Barbarian inspired work “Feelin Super Similar”, perfect. I also really like Jason Limon’s “Ooze got the Snorks”. I was never a fan of that cartoon, but if it looked like what Jason has created I would have never missed an episode. Along with the original works, there is also a couple of prints to be had. Charlie Owens has a print of his piece, “Somewhere over the Rainbow” limited to 38. Chris Lee has “Mr. Villain’s Class of 1983″, which is 19″ x 13″, limited to 50 and can be framed or not.

playtimesover.jpgThe “Toys!” show that is going on at the Gallery 1988 in LA is now online for your viewing pleasure. All art inspired by the toys of our youth, if your that old, and also some customs celebrating Hot Wheels 40th.

Some really great art is in this show. I’m particularly fond of Camilla D. Errico’s paintings and those by Scott Scheidly, Johnny Crap, Davey Wong, Casey Weldon and of course those artists that were shown on the Creep Machine at one point such as Jim Harker, Allison Torneros, Lindsay Carr, Mark Brown & Shannon Bonatakis.

It’s a great show that brings up a lot of memories. I really hope they make a print of the Anthony Clarkson “Playtime’s Over” painting (shown). That “My Pet Monster” looks like he’s ready to bring the pain.
