Preview: “Twin Peaks; Fire Walk With Me” Group Show @ Copro Gallery

Opening this Saturday, April 21st, at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica is a new group show entitled Twin Peaks; Fire Walk With Me
20th Anniversary Group Art Exhibition
. A year ago in February, Clifton’s Brookdale hosted In the Trees: Twin Peaks 20th Anniversary Art Exhibition, which had some amazing artwork (seen here), and many of he artists from that round will be seen in this latest exhibition. Martin Wittfooth, Glenn Barr, Chris Berens, Brett Amory, Chris Mars, Dan May, Chris Buzelli, Billy Norrby, Nicoletta Ceccoli, Esao Andrews, Lori Earley, Brian Viveros, Ryan Heshka, Scott C, Chet Zar, Paul Chatem, Stella Im Hultberg, and many more.

There is some very strong work in this exhibition, I was especially intrigued with the paintings by Billy Norrby, Glenn Barr, and Dan Quintana. Stella Im Hultberg submitted another beautiful painting, and I was happy see a landscape by Chris Peters. The stand out piece for me was Deliverance by Lori Earley (seen first). I was a great surprise to see Lori submit a digital painting that had some oil, acrylic, and mixed media embellishments to it. The more I looked at it I could see her style peek out, but the overall work is a new direction that I really hope she continues with. During the reception there will be a limited edition print available of this painting, un-embellished, signed and numbered in an edition of 20. This is bound to be a mind-blowing exhibition, so if your in the area make sure to stop by, otherwise check out the preview images and then over to the website.

Stella Im Hultberg, Mari Inukai, Audrey Kawasaki, and Amy Sol @ Thinkspace Gallery

Amid the variety of Halloween related art shows, and the I Want My Music Video Art Show, Thinkspace Gallery opened a group exhibition featuring the work of Stella Im Hultberg, Mari Inukai, Audrey Kawasaki, and Amy Sol entitled In the Wake of Dreams. This show brings new paintings, drawings, and a new print set. Overall the show is as cohesive as it gets, there is no denying that these four artists fit very well together. I love the idea of being able to see the painted style each artist has, and the drawings, especially in the way each artist presents the drawings. With Stella Im Hultberg and Audrey Kawasaki’s drawings, you see only clean, well-planned linework. Each one also adding colored pencil, and in the case of Audrey laser cut sections of the paper. Amy Sol and Mari Inukai have a looser style of drawing, as you are able to see lines that were made while the artist worked out the forms. To me, this style of drawing has a very energetic feel and in a way is as intimate as a signature can be. The show will be up until October 29th.

Stella Im Hultberg – “Fragmented” @ London Miles Gallery

On March 12th, Stella Im Hultberg’s latest solo show “Fragmented” (previewed), opened alongside Scott Belcastro’s new series of works “I Dare the Sky” at the London Miles Gallery. Stella’s new work looks amazing. It;s a good mix of her tea-stained paper drawings, acrylic and colored pencil works, and one painting that she used oils with even though she has moved over to water based media. The new style of hair she is drawing really looks fantastic. Even though Stella has less work in this show than Scott Belcastro does, I found myself spending more time looking at her work, it just feels like a stronger series. Check the show out for yourself over at the galleries homepage.

New work by Stella Im Hultberg

After showing some new in a couple of group exhibitions during the beginning of this new year, Stella Im Hultberg is preparing for a solo show that will take place at the London Miles Gallery. The show will be called “Fragmented” and will show concurrently with Scott Belcastro’s new show “I Dare the Sky”. This is Stella’s first larger body of works in over a year, but judging from the preview images the wait is going to be worth it. Take a look at the preview images, and then mark your calendars for the reception on March 11th.

“In The Trees: TWIN PEAKS 20th Anniversary Art Exhibition”

Opening tonight, February 12th, in Los Angeles at Clifton’s Brookdale is a group show dedicated to David Lynch’s cult television series “Twin Peaks”. The show will feature work by Glenn Barr, Tim Biskup, Scott Campbell, Paul Chatem, Ryan Heshka, Stella Im Hultberg, Ashley Wood, Jessica Joslin, Chris Mars, Liz McGrath, Eric White, and more. Clifton’s Brookdale is a very unique restaurant, however the artwork for the show has been placed online so those of us that aren’t able to make it to the show, and grab some food, will be able to check of some of this outstanding work. I really like what Stella Im Hultberg came up with, the contrast and colors are perfect.

“Idol Hours” @ London Miles Gallery

On November 13th, the London Miles Gallery opened a group show entitled “The Idol Hours”, which is a reflective study of great historical master paintings by new contemporary artists. The show features work by some amazing artists such as Dave MacDowell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Bagshaw, Matthew Bone, Travis Lampe, Zoe Lacchei, Bob Dob, Carrie Ann Baade, Carles Gomila, Nom Kinnear King, Chris B Murray, Ken Keirns, and many more. I was very excited, being an art history geek, to hear of this exhibition and see what some of these artists would come up with when taking classical works for inspiration. Ken Keirns did an outstanding re-interpretaion of Da Vinci’s “Lady with an Ermine”, and even Dave MacDowell chose to reimagibe Da Vinci’s work. Tom Bagshaw, Chris Murray, and Carrie Ann Baade made some stand-out paintings. I loved looking through the works and attaching them to the classical pieces the artists worked from. I do feel that Joe Ledbetter could have created something so much better, instead of painting a small area on a print. of the original work.

Preview: Crazy 4 Cult 4

The group show Crazy 4 Cult is now back again for the fourth installment. The full title “Crazy 4 Cult 4: The Case of the Redundant Number”, will feature work inspired by cult movies from a wide range of amazing artists. Just a few of those participating are: Allison Sommers, Anne-Julie Aubrey, Apricot Mantle, Casey Weldon, Chet Zar, Chris Murray, Dan May, Dave MacDowell, Ewelina Ferruso, Gene Guynn, Joe Scarano, Ken Garduno, Ken Keirns, N.C. Winter, Rich Pellegrino, Scott Campbell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Haubrick, and many more. Some are veterans of the group show, and many are new. The past three shows seemed to have been dominated by just a handful of movies, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka. There are so many amazing cult movies, I do hope some of them are given the same treatment some of the repeat titles have. Here is a short preview of some of the works that have been posted around the web, or graciously shared with the Creep Machine. Hit the jump-link to see the full preview.
