Preview: Feminality Art Show: Couples Edition Round 2

Opening September 3rd at the Hive Gallery is the Feminality Art Show, Couples Edition Round 2. The show is brought to the gallery by Mike Franco from Wizard Sleeve Toys, as well as Gnomon School of Visual Effects. The show features art submitted by artistic couples, and has the couples showing a solo work a piece as well as a collaborative work. It;s great to see how some of the couples have similar styles, while others have drastically different styles but work so well in the collaboration pieces. Participating artists include: Tim and Emma Mount, Apricot Mantle and Jessica Ward, Meats Meier and Misaki Sawada, Cory Daigler & Brandi Read, Erlend & Pamela Tait (featured), Alan DeForest and Bethany Pratt, Brandan Styles and Ellie Rusinova, Tracy Tomko and Erin Asmussen, The Chung and Desiree Fessler-Chung, Stuntkid and Elizabeth Levesque, Dan Barry and Robin Coronel, and Ted Von Heiland and Anna Chung

Jelly Skull Series by Jason Levesque

Jason Levesque (Stuntkid) has just released a series of watercolor painting entitled “Jelly Skull”. Each one is 7″ x 10″ on heavy watercolor paper, framed at 10″ x 13″. It’s a great idea, and the idea that these were painted with watercolor, instead of being digital is a nice tough. I like the feel of the paper and the light washes of color that the Jelly Skull’s have. Jason put these up in his online shop you can see at the link below.

Poster Peep Show: The Art of the Pinup @ Gallery Nucleus

In celebration of the pin up girl, Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, CA opened an outstanding group exhibition this past February 5th entitled “Poster Peep Show: The Art of the Pinup”. In homage to such pin up masters as Gil Elvgren and Alberto Vargas, the gallery has put toegther an amazing list of classic and contemporary artists. Works from Marcelo Dadolce, Olivia De Berardinis, Shane Glines, Bill Presing, Rockin’ Jelly Bean, Marguerite Sauvage, Stuntkid, Francis Vallejo and many more can be seen on the website now. I especially like the series of watercolor portraits Olivia did of Marilyn Monroe, it shows how skilled and consistent her style is. A few of the works were also made into giclee prints, such as Rockin Jelly Bean’s “Evil Valentine” (shown first).

JUst before Halloween he released a zombie inspired print entitled “Undead Uprising” that I featured over at the They Wont Stay Dead art site. “Anatomical” prints by Stuntkid

Jason Levesque, otherwise known as Stuntkid, has added three new prints to his online shop. The prints are from a new series of works that show the figure as a see-through anatomical model. It reminds me a bit of those “Visible Man” and “Visible Woman” anatomical kits that were popular when I was a kid, minus the viscera of course. Jason does a great job making sure the models for the prints, Scar, Apnea and Asphyxia are still recognizable as themselves. Each print is 12″ x 12″ on heavy watercolor paper, signed and numbered in editions of 50 for $40 each. You can also opt to buy all three at once and save $20.

“Pretty Gross”, new art book by Stuntkid

Jason Levesque aka Stuntkid has let loose a new art book. “Pretty Gross” is 8.5″ x 11″ perfect bound, full color and 82 pages of “finished work, sketches and photographs of work you’ve seen and some you haven’t.”
The book is available via Lulu, while I’m not familiar with the quality of the books I have heard nothing bad either. The one cool feature is the site allows you to preview the book. If the preview is any indicator of the book, the images will fill the whole page.
