  • RIP: Ryan August of I Want Your Skull

    I am very to sad to write that on Saturday, July 11th, Ryan August, the creator of the always inspirational website I Want Your Skull, passed away. I first met Ryan back in 2007 when I decided to start the Creep Machine. I had little idea of what I was doing, let alone what I was going to do to keep the site here for the long run. I Want Your Skull is one of those sites I wish I had made, i’m sure many feel that way, and I decided to model the Creep Machine on Ryan’s creation. I became a die-hard fan when I e-mailed Ryan to ask some questions, and not only was he open to answer every one, but you could tell that he just really loved art. While many other art sites are created and then fade away, I Want Your Skull was always there and it prodded me to keep going, being the sole writer such as Ryan was can get very tough sometimes. The longevity of I Want Your Skull, and the printed zines he worked so hard to bring us every year, was testament to the love of art Ryan had.

    As long as I Want Your Skull has been going, Ryan always had a link to the Creep Machine on it, as well as on his own portfolio site (here) right under the title “inspiration”. I feel happy that my little site was an inspiration to him, as his site was such an inspiration to me. My thoughts go out to Ryan’s wife Sarah and their son Declan. Thanks again Ryan for creating the best skull related art site on the web, and for never giving up on it.

  • New prints by Ghoulish Gary Pullin

    Gary Pullin has added some new prints to his etsy shop. The prints are from works that were featured in his “I Remember Halloween” art show. Each print, “Drac”, “Frankie”, and “Wolfie” are all 6″ x 8″ on Hahnemühle Fine Art quality paper, and they can be dropped into any standard frame.

  • Jason D’Aquino & Lead Poisoning @ Last Rites Gallery

    This past Saturday, July 10th, two amazing shows opened at the Last Rites Gallery in New York. First a solo show of new works by Jason D’Aquino, and then a drawing group show called “Lead Poisoning”. Just a few of the artists that participated in the group show are: Esao Andrews, Carrie Anne Baade, Glenn Barr, Dave MacDowell, Scott G Brooks, Daniel Martin Diaz, Ron English, Chris Mars, Chet Zar, David Stoupakis, Eric White, Tara McPherson, and many more.

    Jason D’Aquino’s show was a perfect blend of his smaller matchbook pieces, and some larger works done on various types of antiqued paper. There is also two prints available: “Plague” which is 8″ x 18″ limited to 50, and “Antique Flash Poster” at 18″ x 24″ for $40. Jason has such an amazing style. The way he draws, his characters, and the found paper that he uses really helps to create a unique and nostalgic feel. I especially like the piece “Don Post (Masks)” (shown), it reminds me of being a kid and wanting to collect every mask Don Post ever created.

  • Review: Crazy 4 Cult 4 by Apricot Mantle

    The Creep Machine was lucky to get one of the participants of the Crazy 4 Cult 4 show, Apricot Mantle, to not only take some photos of the event for us, but write a review as well.   • Joshua Clay goes digital with Starcraft

    Joshua Clay has said he was always anti-digital, and has stuck to using traditional mediums for his work. He recently entered a contest to make a propaganda poster for the new Starcraft 2 game, and turned his pencil sketch into a digital piece. If this truly is his first digital work, I can’t wait to see what it will look like when he really gets into the medium.   • Preview: Crazy 4 Cult 4

    The group show Crazy 4 Cult is now back again for the fourth installment. The full title “Crazy 4 Cult 4: The Case of the Redundant Number”, will feature work inspired by cult movies from a wide range of amazing artists. Just a few of those participating are: Allison Sommers, Anne-Julie Aubrey, Apricot Mantle, Casey Weldon, Chet Zar, Chris Murray, Dan May, Dave MacDowell, Ewelina Ferruso, Gene Guynn, Joe Scarano, Ken Garduno, Ken Keirns, N.C. Winter, Rich Pellegrino, Scott Campbell, Stella Im Hultberg, Tom Haubrick, and many more. Some are veterans of the group show, and many are new. The past three shows seemed to have been dominated by just a handful of movies, Donnie Darko, The Big Lebowski, Edward Scissorhands, and Willy Wonka. There are so many amazing cult movies, I do hope some of them are given the same treatment some of the repeat titles have.   • “Raider” Star Wars print by Dave Kinsey @ Mondotees

    Continuing on with the Star Wars series, Alamo Drafthouse is ready to drop the next print in the series, this new one is by Dave Kisney. “Raider” is a 24″ x 26″ screen-print, signed and numbered in an edition of 350 for $50. This print will show up sometime today, July 8th, on the Mondotees website so keep your eyes open.

  • “Rawr!” print by Iain Macarthur

    Previously featured artist here in the Creep Machine, Iain Macarthur has a new print being released by Danger Press. “Rawr!” is a 23″ x 35″ single color screen-print on 100# cover stock, signed and numbered in an edition of 90 for $40 each. This is an amazing looking print, I think Iain’s style translates flawlessly to prints such as these.
