I was able to interview Bay Area artist, Scott Hove for his upcoming Cakeland exhibition that opens this Friday over at SFWeekly.com It’s an amazing idea, and even though I don’t like cake I still look forward to seeing this installation in person.

Opening this Thursday, September 3rd at the Flatcolor Gallery is a two person show featuring work by Robert Hardgrave and Joe Vollan. This looks like its going to be an amazing show. So far there is only a preview of Robert Hardgrave’s new paintings, and they look outstanding. This is the type of art that you need to see in person. While the images on the site look great, you can see there is so much packed into each one of these pieces that it would be best to just stare at the paintings up close for as long as possible.
The show opens tomorrow night, and the rest of the preview should be up for those that can’t make it. For now head on over and see the rest of the Robert Hardgrave images.
First of all I would like to thank last months featured artists, Mark Riddick and Godmachine. Both artists can now be found in the archives in the Featured Artists page. For the month of September we have a couple of artists with art that is on the lighter side of things. Joe Havasy and Matt Ritchie both make cartoon infused work, that is sure to make you laugh and is just a blast to look at. Head on over and check these two artists out.
It looks like Fine Grime has added a couple of new prints by Tom Bagshaw. Both prints are roughly 14″ x 18″, signed and numbered in editions of 50. I have been watching Tom for a while now, he has such an amazing style. These two pieces in particular really stood out. The first is “Sweet Mercy” which I was hoping would make it into print form, and then “Reliquary” is next. This one is not as “filled” as the first one is, but is just as striking if not more.

Lara Slater is an artist working out of New Jersey. She works in a wide variety of mediums such as oils, wood-burning, colored pencils and is also a skilled tattoo artist. Her style is not only intensely colorful, but will also satisfy those that love more dark and surreal artworks. I am particularly taken with her color pencil drawings. As you can see by the two examples shown, they have a glow to them and hold a lot of the qualities that you can see in her tattoo work as well.
I know she is currently working on updating the layout of her homepage, but you can still head over there now and take a look at her portfolio.
It’s been a year long in the making, and now the James Jean “Hint Mints” series is finally finished. Previous series featured such artists as Glenn Barr, Owen Smith, Gary Baseman and Shag. The mint tins should be ready for purchase soon, but for those that fancy prints instead James has added open editions of these illustrations in the Process Recess online shop. Each one of the prints is 17″ x 21″ on ultrasmooth art paper, signed and embossed for $85 each.
Coming this Saturday, September 5th at the Copro Gallery is three exciting solo shows. Noferin will have “The Place We Call Home”, Dan May with “The Nature of Things to Come” and Matt Dangler will have “Gifts of the Magi”. So for the first preview we have a couple of images from Matt Dangler’s show. All three shows have preview up at the galleries website if you want to check those out as well.
Corey Helford gallery is releasing a new print from Luke Chueh. “Goya” comes from his last solo show at the gallery, “From Light Cometh Darkness†and is a remix of Francisco Goya’s “Saturn Devours His Son”. While I’m not the biggest fan of Luke’s work, I do enjoy this painting. The print is 12″ x 24″ on Arches infinity paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50. The print can be bought with or without frame. The great thing about the frame, is that it is the exact one that Luke used for the original.
