Naoto Hattori has once again updated his online shop with some new original paintings. A few of these new ones are portraits like the one shown below. I really like when he paints faces, this has to easily be my favorite work by him so far. The mixture of texture, the soft facial features and the floating orbs are all great. The one shown is entitled “Pheromone” and is acrylic on board, 4″ x 5.9″ and is framed.

Under the Influence: Beastie Boys show now online
The Beastie Boys theme art show “Under the Influence” opens at the Gallery 1988 in LA tonight. The show features a whole mess of artists creating art inspired by the band. The show is now online to view, or order art if you wish. Along with original art there is also a good amount of limited edition prints made for the show.
There are some really great artists in the show such as: Ken Garduno, Tom Haubrick, Matt Dangler, Aaron Jasinksi, Andrew Hem, Michael Page, Alex Pardee and the three shown below, Dave Macdowell, Casey Weldon and Chris Murray. Dave’s painting is of course amazing as usual, the colors and textures in Chris’s and Casey’s Biz Markie with the Ted Nugent shirt and energy beam shooting mouth is too much.

Ron English and Alex Pardee at Fifty24 SF
Tonight at Fifty24 in San Francisco, Ron English’s solo show “Mythographic Vicissitudes†opens in the lower level of the gallery, and Alex Pardee’s “Letters From Digested Children†opens on the upper level of the gallery. Both are amazing artists and being able to see both shows in the same gallery is too good to be true.
Arrested Motion has a preview of Ron English’s show Here. Io9.com has a preview of Alex’s show, and it looks like it’s going to be killer. I love the idea of the video installation that he has in the show, I wish this was seen in more shows. Check it out HereI’ll be seeing the show in Saturday and will no doubt have many pics to share. For now head over to Fifty24sf.com

New prints and website from Femke Hiemstra
Dutch artist Femke Hiemstra has redesigned her webpage, and has also updated her online shop. The process of buying is a lot quicker, the whole website is more streamlined than the previous one. I think it looks great.
She has some new work posted in her gallery, and also has added some new prints to her shop. It looks like the most recent prints are: “Le Dernier Poursuivant Du Dragon” edition of 200, and “The Japanese Mountain Woman” also an edition of 200.
Head on over and check out the new site, and new items added to the shop. Femke Hiemstra Homepage

“Leave the Light On”, Tom Haubrick’s Solo show
Tom Haubrick has a solo show over on 88point5.com, the online gallery site of Gallery1988. Each piece has this amazing stained background, and with Tom’s ink work they look great.
Most of the pieces are around 6″ x 8″, but he does have a few larger ones to show, such as the first piece shown here at 26 ½ x 18 ¾ inches. Would love to see these in person. Looking at art online is a necessity for most, but seeing the work in person is always a plus.

Featured Artists for January: Catherine Brooks & Luke Kopycinski
Along with the freshly tweaked site, the featured artists for January are also up and ready to view. I’m really excited to have these artists on the site, both of them are very talented. So check out the “Featured Artists” area to view their work.
I also want to thanks December’s featured artists Leslie Ditto & Charles Wish. Both features are now found in the archive along with all of the previous features.

Site has been redesigned
I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Years break. I spent my time reworking the site. It’s not completely redesigned, the same layout is here as well as some of the graphics. I added some new features, streamlined some areas and removed some that were pointless.
The site will still have some bugs for a bit but overall it’s all ready to go. Please take a look around, if you stumble into some bugs please let me know.
Here’s a 2009 being filled with great opportunities.
