Original paintings by Simon Boses, aka Mudmonkey
Simon Boses was one of the featured artists on the site more than a year ago. He is one of the few sculptural artists that I have been able to feature on the site. He has been pretty quite for the past year, but recently I see that he has made some ACEO’s or collectible artists cards. Basically tiny original paintings.
Both works are acrylic on bristol board and are 2.5″ x 3.5″. I have seen some ACEO frames out there and they look really killer all framed up. I really love how you can see his style shine through these little works. I hope he keeps going with the painting. The first one is entitled “Mono Vision” and the second is “Perilous Voyage”.

Molly Crabapple recaps Art Basel
Art Basel is now over and for those of us (me) that missed the even, artist Molly Crabapple wrote a recap of the event. Focusing specifically on the “lowbrow/pop surrealist” contributions to the festivities.
I love how she touches on the idea that this genre is looked at as just illustrative, something I have argued with quite a few professors. It just isn’t getting the respect it deserves, but as she wrote in the article: “If pop-surrealists don’t envy high art’s pretense, they covet their cash.” Very true, she references the painting that Mark Ryden sold for one million dollars. Just illustration huh?

“Good Samaritan” framed canvas print by Naoto Hattori
Coming this Saturday at the Copro Nason Gallery, the “Good Samaritan’s” group show opens up. Naoto has a painting in the show and has just released a print based on it. So you get a jump on the print before the show even opens.
This is one of the most exciting prints I have seen him release so far. The print is a frames canvas giclee, 8″ x 8″ (12.5″ x 12.5″ framed. It’s signed and numbered in an edition of 25 and is $350. That’s a pretty small edition for such a killer print, so I don’t think this one will last long. Also if your interested, you can contact the gallery about the original here: Copro Nason Gallery.

Alex Pardee’s “Bunnywith” now a daily webcomic
One of Alex’s most memorable creations has to be “Bunnywith”. There have been comics, plush toys, and vinyl toys. Alex stated that “”Bunnywith”, and his adorable smile, allows me to be the asshole I wish I was 98% of my life.” So for those out there that love Alex’s work, as well as this character, we now get even more. The new incarnation of “Bunnywith” is a daily updated web-comic, well almost daily.
One of the things about looking for new art by your favorite artists, is that it takes time to create. So with web-comics you get something new everyday. Something that can make you laugh, think or just give your day a pick-up. I have a list of web-comics that I read everyday and am very happy to add this one to the line-up.

“Blue Rose” print by Sylvia Ji
Sylvia Ji has just released a new print over at the Artprint.net. This new print is entitled “Blue Rose” and is 14″ x 14″ on watercolor paper. It is signed and numbered in an edition of 100. I am a big fan of all the work that she has done, but the last few such as “La Catrina”, “Rosa” and this new one are really amazing. The colors are great, that blue along with subtle rose, green and almost gold colors are very striking.
