There is a new print from James Jean over at the Process Recess shop. “Wave II” is one of the open edition prints, at 17″ x 22″ on Ultrasmooth Fine Art Paper, signed and embossed. It’s a beautiful image, I love how James is able to not only make colorful energetic and brushy works, but also classy pieces like this. His shop is sure to have something for everyone.

Paul Chatem’s “The Death of Bighead” @ Cave Gallery
Opening tonight, February 5th at the Cave Gallery in Venice is the latest solo show from Paul Chatem. “The Death of Big Head” features some more of the amazing “clockwork” inspired works we saw at the Shooting Gallery last year (Featured). Looking at the preview images of the show, the integration of the clockwork elements is seamless with the amazing colors and aging effects that Paul does with his work. These are paintings that are meant to be seen up close, not only to enjoy all of the subtleties that he adds to each piece, but the see the works in motion. I really hope some videos show up soon. Here are a few images from the show, head on over to see the rest. It looks as though most of the show pieces have sold.

Profiles: Franz Xaver Messerschmidt
So far the Creep Machine has featured mainly contemporary art, but when I’m not looking for more current art to share I am researching classical art. Most of the work does not fit with the direction of the site, but some of it does, such as the work of Franz Xaver Messerschmidt a German-Austrian sculptor during the 18th century. He was once assistant professor of sculpture at the Imperial Academy of Vienna, but was passed over for the Chair of the department due to what they called “confusion in the head”, delusions and hallucinations. Due to what some believe to be Crohn’s disease, Messerschmidt alleviated the pain by punching himself. He then used himself as a template to create what he called the “canonical grimaces.” For the full story head on over to John Coulthart’s blog. I like how this classically trained artist created what most people would not consider classical art created hundreds of years ago.

“Love Struck” print by Tyson McAdoo
Pinup artist Tyson McAdoo has just added a new print to his online shop. “Love Struck” is a 16″ x 20″ giclee on Somerset Velvet paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 100 for $80. Out of all the prints in Tyson’s store this is the only limited edition print, and I don’t think this one will be hanging around long. The model for the image is Miss Mosh, and it looks perfectly like her. The colors in the pose of the figure in this piece really makes the image stand out.

Dan Quintana & Brian Viveros prints @ Copro Nason
Coming this Friday. February 6th the Copro Gallery will open “Desensitized” with new works from Dan Quintana and Brian Viveros. There will even be a few collaborative paintings in the show as well. To go along with this new show the gallery just released five new prints, three from Viveros, one from Quintana and a lithograph of the collaborative piece named after the show for only $20 (shown first). The rest of the prints are giclee on paper, save for the “BULL-FIGHT-HER” by Viveros that is on board and comes framed. I really like the “300 Proof Dolly” print by Dan Quintana, it’s an amazing image (shown second).

Artist Profiles: Jason Asato
Jason Asato is an artist/illustrator out of Hawaii. The majority of his works are digital paintings, but he has been adding some graphite drawings to is website that once filled his sketchbooks.I love the feel that the drawings have, especially the skull drawings. While most of these drawings occupy a small area of the paper, I really think his drawing style filling the majority of the paper would look amazing. Jason also added some of the drawings to his etsy page, all framed up and ready to sell.
For the rest of the drawings take a look here: Jason Asato Homepage
