  • “Hungry Zombie” print by Geordan Moore

Geordan Moore is a freelance illustrator out of Halifax. He recently added a new print to his already well stocked online shop. There are some great prints to be had, but the “Hungry Zombie” is too good to not show. The print is 11″ x 14″ on 300 gsm watercolour paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 75 for $50 a pop. This is such a cool print, while I am a fan of zombies its nice to see someone talking a humorous route with them.

  • Preview: Krista Huot’s “Nepenthe” solo show @ Gallery 1988 SF

Opening this Saturday, January 9th at the SF location of Gallery 1988, Kirsta Huot’s latest solo show will open. This new exhibition is entitled “Nepenthe”, which is a Greek word that means “one (drug) that chases away sorrow”. It’s a great title for a show and fits Krista’s style and feel perfectly. Looking at the full preview (Here), the show is very strong. I absolutely love her color palettes and the way she handles that acrylic paint. The drybrushing technique she uses really helps to add depth to the work, and even gives her characters a glow. I can’t help but look at these paintings and wish that an animated movie by Krista was in the works. Along with the paintings there are also some drawings, studies for the paintings really. The drawings look great as well, you can see that she is not only talented with paints but pencils as well. If your in the area make sure you stop by the reception to see the works and possibly talk to Krista, I believe she will be there.

  • “Death Metal” print by David Witt

David Witt, an illustrator out of Minnesota, has added a new print to his online shop. The print is entitled “Death Metal” and is 12.5″ x 19″ on 100 lb. deep blue paper, signed and numbered in an edition of 50 for only $20 (+$5 shipping). It’s a very striking print, I like the fact that he chose to use blue instead of warmer colors.

  • “An open letter to Kidrobot…” by Jeremy Brautman

    open_letter
Jeremy Brautman, Bay Area writer and “toy maven”, posted a great article over at Spanky Stokes about Kidrobot and the direction they have been going. I have read a lot of criticism about Kidrobot, vinyl collectibles and idea that the “art aspect” of it all is going away. This is definitely one of the more enjoyable articles I have read, and it worth checking out even if you could care less about vinyl toys. Here is an exerpt:

    “Dear Kidrobot,

It’s been a while since we’ve spoken. How’ve you been? Not so great? Yeah, I know. A lot of us have been wondering basically what the hell happened to you since we met.

In January 2004, Wired ran an article called “The New Cubicle Commandos” that really resonated with me. You were mentioned in the story, which led me to visit you on Haight Street in San Francisco. Six years ago, the tiny Kidrobot shop was a cool place to go. Back then, you sold Qees, and I’d pick them up regularly. You had these glass cases in the middle of the shop, and the contents were like a mini museum. I chatted with Frank Kozik as he signed his first range of Labbits that year. He was grouchy. It was cramped. But it felt like something was happening. Something interesting…”

  • New design for 2010

Every year I manage to make a new design for the Creep Machine. I like the layout the site currently has, but felt that the graphics could use a “facelift”. So in the past few days I have updated the site will a cleaner feel and new graphics. I hope everyone likes the changes.

The featured artist for January will be updated in the next few days.

  • Adrian Borda

    “I Borda Danut Adrian

I live in Reghin – Romania, where I was born 28 years ago with a brush in my hand I believe, because many of my first memories include a drawing on a piece of paper… I studied painting in High School, and then at the Fine Arts University in Iasi. I see my self as a visual alchemist who in my search for gold I discovered many other things of greater value. Unfortunately I have no idea what’s that gold for the eye, but I’m still searching…”
