I don’t post enough sketches as art of the day, so here is one by Laura Wächter an artist out of Spain.
Laura has an amazing style. Her work has that timeless quality to it, much like Scott Radke, Claudia Drake & Cristina Beller has. Your just not sure what era it comes from, which ads to the overall surreal quality of it. I love the expression on her face in this one.

If your like me you missed the opportunity to go to the “Revelations” workshop put on by Conceptart.org, where one of the many artists teaching there was Michael Hussar. It was a great opportunity, and you can see what you missed in these photos by Phil Holland.
It now looks like there will be another chance, this time in Pasadena instead of Seattle. Michael Hussar will be teaching a 3 day painting workshop the end of this month. The workshop will be taking place the weekend of the 28, 29 & 30th. More details will be announced, but I imagine if you want to go to this, do not wait. Today’s art of the day is from R.S. Connet, otherwise known as Vomitus Maximus. Much like Jeff Soto and many other artists, Connett is worrried about the future of our world and what we are doing to it. Jeff Soto’s last show at the Jonathan Levine Gallery was pretty much centered around this idea as well, with Connett’s work though you get the idea as clear as a firm slap on the face.
Looking at this piece it’s quite clear that whatever is going on is bad. The sky reminds me of my hometown and it’s awful air quality. Just looking at this make my lungs constrict. I was just noticing today people were walking around in shorts, jogging and enjoying the sun. The whole time I was tripping out. It’s only March and flowers are blooming and sneezes are plentiful. This shouldn’t be a problem, but where I live it should be foggy right now. I’m glad artists like R.S. Connett are also disturbed by what is going on, and all that seems to go unnoticed.

Vomitis Maximus the art of R.S. Connett
The SF Fetish Ball Gallery show was great. I had to get a press pass to be able to take pictures in the show, but thanks to SFWeekly I was able to do that. I managed to pull off around 230 pictures, once I pruned them down though I ended up with 100.
The highlight of the show was being able to see Michael Hussar’s paintings in person. The paintings were amazing, and really show why viewing paintings on the internet and in print isn’t the best way to enjoy art. “Vasoline” in particular was huge and took up a majority of the stage area. “Gummer” along with “Saliva” were also huge in size. They were both being supported by soft benches. It was great to able to see all the brush strokes and details in each one of the paintings.
At 11 pm they had an auction. Prints were being auctioned off to help out Philip Warner who also had some work on view at the show. The “White Devil” print by Michael Hussar hit $900. I don’t think you can find that print at a cheap price anymore, but the “Hans Memling” print is still available as well as “Still Life with a Smile” both still around $350.
If you ever have a chance try to see Michael Hussar’s work in person. I like to see any work in person, but this was a great opportunity to see the work of an artist that isn’t flooding the market with hundreds of prints and paintings. These are highly skillful and meticulously created works of art. Modern day masterpieces really.

Joshua Clay has a solo show called “Midnight Parade” at the Distinction Gallery in Escondido. The work is up for viewing and it all looks amazing. There are also two prints available, “Love and Lust” and “Fresh Beats”. Both prints are limited to 50, signed and numbered.

At the Copro Nason Gallery in Santa Monica three artists will have work shown, Naoto Hattori, Keith Weesner & Christopher Polentz. All the pieces are up for preview and it looks like Naoto’s show is almost sold out. Check out the show here.
Opening the 7th at La Luz De Jesus gallery will be “Everything But The Kitschen Sync”, a no themed huge group show. There is a lot of work to be seen here, most notably is some pieces by Stephen Blickenstaff. He was one of the first artists that I really got into, I have yet to see his work in person. “kaleidoscope” opens the 8th at the Project Gallery in LA and features work by: Jen Corace, Rebecca Artemisa Urias,
Katy Horan, Allison Cole and Dan-ah Kim. Check out the show Here.
Create:Fixate has a pretty huge group show going on, featuring work by Brady Redman, Paul Torres, Shannon Keller and many others. Check it out Here.
Finally the “Balls” Out” group show opens the 7th at the Grass Hut Gallery in Portland. The show features work by Bwana Spoons, Jeff Soto, James Jean, Reuben Rude, Deth P Sun, Ryan Bubnis, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Visell, Scott Saw and many others. Looks like it’s going to be a very exciting show. Some really great artists there. Check out the show Here.
Gallery 1988 will be releasing two new prints from Travis Lampe this Friday March 7th.
Each print is a 12″ x 12″ giclee print on velvet art paper, signed and numbered and limited to 25. The print on the left is “Accidental Mishap”, the right on is “Mountaintop Scuffle”. I have seen both of these prints in person and they look amazing. The detail and colors are perfect, the only thing really missing from these is paintbrush marks.
You can actually save $25 by buying these together and they would look great framed right next to each other anyway.

Allison Torneros was one of the Creeps first “Art of the Day” posts way back in August. The piece featured was this very one, “The City”. It’s mixed media and is a great image, and I’m obviously not the only that thinks it great. Allison was also featured in the “Reader Art” section of Juxtapoz.
Gallery 1988 is releasing a limited edition print of this piece. The print is 11″x14″ and is limited to an edition of 88, hand signed and numbered. It’s very affordable at only $75. I’m really happy that that her work is being seen and enjoyed by so many people.

This Thursday night, march 6th will be the opening of two art shows. I’ll be at both of the shows, taking pictures and just enjoying the art.
First is a solo show at Varnish Art “The Turning Time” by Michael Page. I really dig his work and Varnish is one of my favorite galleries to visit. The gallery looks great and there is always amazing art to view. Check it out Here
Next is the SF Fetish Ball Gallery Show at the DNA Lounge. The artists that will be featured there are Michael Hussar, Alan Daniels, Philip Warner, Allan Amato, Collin J Rae, Oliver Mendoza & Jody Cortes. I’m super excited to finally be able to see Michael Hussar’s paintings in person. I’m not sure what paintings will be there to view, I’m happy to see any of them really.
