  • “Sweet Calaveras” @ Yves Laroche Gallery

jasondaquino.jpgA group show with some really great artists opened on October 31st. The gallery is called Yves Laroche, and this is the first time I have heard of it. Glad I stumbled onto it.

The show is called “Sweet Calaveras”, and has some amazing work in it. All inspired by the skull, we can see work from Shawn Barber, Audrey Kawasaki, Luke Chueh, Daniel Martin Diaz, Jason D’Aquino, Blaine Fontana, Travis Louie, Sauerkids and many others. One of the artists that I have never seen before is David Choquette. He has a great style and fits my tastes instantly.

Anyway, head on over to the link and take a look at the show. Available works are on the site.

  • Audrey Kawasaki “Mizuame” time limited print.

    mizuprint.jpg
Audrey Kawasaki is releasing a new print, and a new way of selling them, one that might help some fans get their hands on a print this time.

As opposed to previous prints being limited to a specific number, this print is limited to one hour. So if you e-mail an order in from 3-4pm pacific, you are guaranteed a print. This is not one of those tiny prints either, this one is big 16×20″. She said they don’t plan on doing this method too much, so if you’ve been trying to score a print form her, now is the time, or else it’s back to 5 minute sell-outs.

  • aotd: “the healing tape of chief goph”

    the_healing_tape_of_chief_goph_by_eriksart.jpg
Todays piece marks the new site redesign, a little easier to move around, and hopefully not giving the impression of being only for dark art.

This piece is by Erik Stenberg, an artist out of Indiana. This a great humorus piece, and yet another artist that can really get down with acrylic paint. I love the expression on the gophers face, “so your eye is out, here’s a band-aid”.

Check out the rest of this artists work. Erik Stenberg

  • Picks of the Harvest @ DvA Gallery

cyclops_med.jpgThe DvA Gallery will be having a massive group show, Picks of the Harvest. Curated by Andrew Hosner of the Thinkspace Gallery. The reception is on November 3rd from 6-10.

The show has a great list of artists, Attaboy, Marion Bolognesi, Matt Dangler, Joshua Clay, Camilla D. Errico, Ekundayo, Sarah Joncas, Angie Mason, Mike Maxwell, Brandi Milne, Lesley Reppeteaux, Kelly Vivanco, and one of my new favorite artists The Chung. Dave Chung is a great artist, and his humor and imagination make his work so easy to become a fan of.

  • Nathan Spoor, Shadow Banquet show

NS_Homecoming.jpgIf your in the Phoenix, AZ area you might want to head on over to the Perihelion Arts gallery and check out the opening of Nathan Spoor’s solo show, The Shadow Banquet.

The show is already online for your viewing, and buying pleasure. There are some really cool pieces in there, I love the one called “Homecoming” (shown). It looks like a squid to me, and I like squids.

I like the change in seeing such dark works, nice black backgrounds. It looks quite striking really.

Today being Halloween and all, I thought I would pick a piece for “art of the day” that seems fitting. This is an oil, self portrait painting by Nick Filth. Is it a zombie? dunno. Does it look like me when I wake up? most definitely.

I really love this self portrait, I love the styling of the face and the whole energy of it. Perfect just how it is.

If you like this piece, make sure you head on over to this artists profile to see more.

  • Paper Pushers @ Gallery 1988 tonight

Alberto1.jpgTonight at the Gallery 1988 in SF, the Paper Pushers show opens. It’s a huge show featuring all works that are on paper, so you will see not only drawings, but paintings as well.

The list of artists is huge. Gallery 1988 seriously puts on some great shows, between Paper Pushers, I am 8 Bit, Crazy 4 Cult and the upcoming Bitters and Sweets, I’ll be writing about their shows a lot.

I tried to make it to the show, but my car did not allow me to. Looks like it’s time to trade that ol hooptie in for another. So, like me a preview of the show may be the best.

So watch the Gallery 1988 page for more. And take a look at the preview page:

  • Original paintings by Zoetica

    il_430xN.13083762_1.jpg
Artist and model Zoetica has put some of her paintings up on Etsy for sale.

There is a good amount of paintings for sale, and she will be listing some prints soon as well. Along with her own art, as well as modeling she also writes for the website Coilhouse. It’s a cool site that I have added to the sidebar there, and it says that they will make a print version which is coo, i’m glad to see people still care about print.
