  • The Art of Stab @ Hyaena Gallery

Running from November 1st to the 15th is a group exhibition of art inspired by the Scream movies, specifically Scream 4 which will be out soon. The reception is this Saturday, November 6th from 8pm to midnight. I am not a fan of the Scream movies, but there is some great artists in this show, and the best part is that the work in this exhibition will be featured in a scene in the movie. Artwork from D.W. Frydendall, Char Hall, Dan Harding, Clint Carney, Skip Crank, Nicolas Caesar, Rick “Dienzo” Blanco, Jeremy Cross, and many more is now on view. Take a look at the preview images and then over to the site for the full show.

  • Josh Keyes “Collision” @ David B Smith Gallery

Opening tonight, November 5th at the David B Smith Gallery is the latest solo show of Josh Keyes. Entitled “Collision”, this new series of works as stated by Josh is inspired by “old alchemists engraving from around the 16th century. The engraving consists of multiple images that illustrate a personified narrative of the chemical transformation of metals moving from one solid to disintegration and reconfiguration. The iconographic device used in this engraving is that of the archetypal king whose power shifts between tyranny and freedom.” There will also be a new limited edition print released, based on the painting “Sowers” (seen last). The print will be 16″ x 48″, signed and numbered in an edition of 350. The show is now online to view, so if you are not able to be there in person make sure you check out the site.

  • New work by Heiko Müller

Heiko Müller just added a couple of new paintings to his Flickr that I had to share here. “Rise” and “Arrival” are both oil on canvas, 40″ square. I’m always impressed when I see how well an artist is able to render water, for example the work Linnea Strid. However, it’s rare that you are able see work that includes fire, and so real looking that you can imagine the heat pulsing from it. These works truly show how skilled Heiko is with oils, I mean all of his work does that but these are really something else. Take a look at these and then head on over to Heiko’s Flickr to see all the recent work.

  • Laurie Lipton and Jessica Joslin @ La Luz de Jesus Gallery

As the end of the year slowly creeps in, there have been some outstanding shows and they keep on coming. This Friday, November 5th at La Luz de Jesus is a duo show with new works from Laurie Lipton and Jessica Joslin. The highly anticipated, and quickly selling, “Machine Punk” show by Laurie Lipton is inspired by the Steampunk craze, but Laurie has changed it a little and states that “my devices are mostly run by electricity and madness.” Jessica Joslin’s “Hybrids” show is a “circus of oddities, a mixed-media menagerie of unexpected creatures.” Both shows look amazing and are now online to view. If you are in the area, make sure to stop by as this work needs to be seen up close.

  • The Art of Andrew Davis

An artist working out of Virginia, Andrew Davis attended the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Arts but left early to pursue a new direction. His previous works were mainly acrylic, but he has since moved over to using oils. It’s clear to see in his work that the new medium has allowed him to be more energetic and was a great choice. There are three series of works on his website; Portraits, Speaking Things, and the most recent Thinking Things. I love the colors and textures that he is able to achieve in these paintings. Head on over to his homepage to check out the rest of his work.

  • The art of Carty Sewill

Trying to keep up with all that is happening in the art world by myself would take up way too much time, so I am happy when readers and artists submit work to the Creep. Not all of the art that is submitted ends up on the site, but Carty Sewill was one artist I had to share the moment I saw his work. The colors he uses are intense, and the way he uses them to render the flesh reminds me of how Basil Gogos does it with his work, although Carty’s style is far more electric. Take a look at these images and then check out his portfolio to keep up with new work.
